  • Can anyone comment on the quality of the TV's?

    • I have the 40" Samsung one which works really well, the smart hub is a bit old but still gets updates with new content and has all the essentials.

      • +1

I also have the 40" Samsung (old model) and 50" Samsung (new model). Both look and work great, nice remotes, 3D glasses included, wifi included, plays every movie file I've tried. You can also get some decent apps on it, and it's even dead easy to set it up as a US TV and get the Netflix app on.

I have the Sony KDL50W800B, is a great TV and that price makes me green :P

      RE: Sony KDL50W800B 50"

Hi read this, VESA mount was my biggest concern with this TV, I bought it a few months ago, increadable TV for gaming with my PS4. Stunning picture, for this price it is a bargain… just buy it!
As for the VESA I had a mount before where you can just hold the TV on the wall… you can get an adapter in a sony store in Melbourne for $70… which fits on the back of the TV allowing you to put the 2 vertical arms on it which then sits on the horizontal bracket attached to the wall. I called sony direct and asked them for the number for the place for the mount. Sorry cannot remember the shop name, but def one in Melbourne! not sure about other states.

here is the link to a picture of the mount, just scroll down a bit to the first picture that comes up.

      http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/15…

Hope this helps… Rad TV though…

      • Thanks!

        • +1

the biggest problem with the stock mount they supply is that the brackets are only mounted 30cm apart… as an architect I know how stupid this is as Studs are usually 450mm or 600mm apart… so 300mm bracket setup only works on concrete/blockwork etc wall. It is the only slip up of this TV. Well start up time can be a bit slow also but no big deal.

I went through much pain sorting this out when getting the TV so just glad I can help you going through the same frustration.

        • @tight ass tony: Yeah, that is weird. Its good that it comes with a wall mount, but making it incompatible with VESA is pretty odd.

Good thing I am installing into brick…

    • Silly question but, if you're "associated" shouldn't you already know the quality of the TV?

      • Comments would be biased, so he/she prefers it from the horse' mouth?

  • I was tempted last week for the Sony alpha 3500 for $299, $254 is a no brainer? The reviews are pretty scarce from what I tried to google.

Edit. It's not a DSLR. Just modelled like one.

    • +2

Indeed, it's an interesting product - basically a NEX camera but in a more chunky DSLR style body. im not sure what the point of that is - mirrorless cameras are supposed to be smaller than their DSLR counterparts, but nevertheless it looks like a bargain for what it is.

i think mirrorless will eventually do to DSLR what LCD TVs did to plasma ones…

Trent the TV man starts the day off early for us finding them good deals!

  • WOW some very good deals

  • Anyone have any opinions on or experience with the Sony KDL50W800B 50"
Seems like it doesn't have standard VESA mount holes and needs an adapter…

    • +3

I just purchased the KDL50W800B as I knew this deal was coming from Trent's earlier post, this TV is one of the best for gaming due to its low input lag, its an all round great TV also, faulting mainly in its 3D performance and somewhat slow smart TV features. At this price it is also the cheapest it has ever been. Sorry I can't help you much regarding wall mounting.

      • Thanks Hayness.
That matches up with the reviews I have seen online….I don't need 3D and it will be used mainly for gaming.

The sony website mentions that is has a "wall mountable stand" but i can't find any specific info…might look at the manual..

        • +1

I have the non 3d version of this tv (700b) and it basically flips the stand becoming a wall mount. It comes with these two metal blocks that you use to hold it onto the wall securely.

        • @ohhidayo: cool, thanks…I think I will go for it and if I decide i really need a movable mount, i will get an adapter or rig something up…

      • So 800B is not good for 3D?

    • +1

Yeah, unfortunately you need to buy a Sony branded wall mount for this. But the TV is fantastic. I actually thought the 3D was excellent but im only comparing to the cinema, never seen 3D on any other TV.

    • +1

doesnt have vesa mount but the stand it comes on comes with an adapter to convert it to a wall mount. if you want a vesa mount you have to buy an aftermarket adapter for about $60 + shipping and it will also block off the ethernet port.

      • Just to be clear, if i do not care about any of the ports except for access to HDMI, do I need to buy something extra to wall mount? I cannot just buy any old wall mount?

        • You will need the sony Suwa1 adapter or a sony bolt kit from an aftermarket supplier. That's what I've found online. Haven't tried it myself just yet. Waiting for my bolt kit in the mail.

        • you won't need any aftermarket wall mount. it comes with brackets that convert the stand into the wall mount, but the design of the wall mount is proprietary. only if you are after a VESA mount will you need to buy anything extra for it.

        • @ausmechkeyboards:

          thanks heaps for the responses.

  • Sony 42" or Samsung 40"???

    Decisions Opinions…..

Currently have Samsung but my old '10+ yrs' Sony was great as well.

    • If you will be playing games on it, definitely the sony. Otherwise toss a coin.

      • why is the sony better for games?

  • +1

I got the sony it's a great tv won't get a tv of its quality for this price. Blu ray and HD content is smooth and crisp and gaming is fantastic normal tv even looks good. No brainier get it

  • +2

The KDL50W800B is a bargain at that price. Picked one up 6 months ago for $1270 which was $300 off at the time.

Sweet TV, looks great, low input lag for Gaming etc, The smart features are sweet I got Netflix and Hulu going on it, Really nice thin profile.

I got it for my ps4 and it's great because the TV turns on and switches to PS4 when I turn on my game controller (note the ps4 can also been controlled with the TV remote). It does seem to have some special Playstation mode because unlike game mode I can't really access any TV settings when using like brightness etc and I feel the mode is slightly darker then I'd normally like for games like FIFA.

The only cons are the smart features take about 10-15 seconds to kick in when your start it up from a cold start i.e. you can change channel and volume etc but can't bring up Smart Features or the TV Guide.

I did find the sound a bit tinny but I bought a cheap Sony Sound bar for $170 and it's a big step up.

The 3D seems fine but to be honest I've never really used it.

This is a ballin TV if your looking for a upgrade from a older telly.

    • +1

I have this TV too and am extremely happy with it. A significant upgrade over my 5yr old Panasonic plasma

Watch dogs Vigilante Edition PS4/xb1 $59(get Further 20% off using voucher) <— how do you use a voucher on this since this is delivery only.

    • You can't Unless you try the stock finder and it shows stock at your local store

      • yep just wondering why it mentions voucher up there when it doesn't seem to be available in stores.

        • Yeah its now removed :)

        • @TRENT86:

oh.. I was hoping I could.. that would definitely pushed me over the edge to buy it haha

Cousin works at JB full time, she isn't responding to me at the moment but anybody know what the staff discount is on TVs?

  • Can anyone please suggest which one is better from these two TVs?

Sony KDL50W800B 50" Full HD Smart 3D LED LCD TV $848 Save $450
    Panasonic 50" TH-50AS700A Full HD 3D LED-LCD Smart TV $848

I was inclined towards Sony but online reviews suggest it has a small viewing angle. Also I've heard Panasonics are better at rendering 3D content. Not that I will watch 3D content very often, it is still a nice to have feature though.

Edit: 100 Hz screen refresh is important. Sony TV has it but couldn't find the rate for Panasonic TV. If someone knows what that is, please also share.

    • +1

The Panasonic has an IPS panel, so I would go for that personally.

      • I'm pretty sure that is a bad thing for tvs

    • Sony by miles

  • Deciding between KDL60W850B and KDL60W600B, can anyone tell me the difference between the two models?

The 850B is $170 more expensive, and the most obvious differences are 3D and Built-in Wifi. 3D is not important to me, and the built-in Wifi is perhaps worth $38 (i.e. replacing a Chromecast).

Anything else I'm missing here, especially in terms of image quality?

    • personally, I found built-in wifi is very useful.

    $995 at the good guys.

Has anyone ever had a positive experience claiming the guarantee?

Should be $818.60. Plus you then get the Puma Sports pack + $100 gift voucher

    • Not sure if they will honour it the same way since it is a bonus product as a package deal.

    • TGG have changed the price into $845, still a great deal.

      • Thanks! Just ordered one. Guy mentioned the offer which I can redeem, and it is until the 24th of this month.

these prices are insane, i wonder what boxing day will bring. anyway, i have a 3 year old 50inch mid-level panasonic viera plasma tv, is it worth upgrading to the 60 inch sony or samsung?

  • tempted to get the 70" one … that or a 1/6th price of a good projector? ($400) any opinions on bigger screens?

    • I would love a TV That big! I've used a 40" for as long as I can remember

      • same, had a sony 46 and 40 for 5 years now since PS3 came out FREE with bravia TVs. Its getting smaller by the year :( I considered projector heavily but I've never really compared. $$ for $$

      • Trent86 boss : can you please help me choose between lg 42 6500 and the sammy 40 inch 6400 model . I like the looks of the lg plus 2 more inches and the magic remote included . Sammy smart features are updated from time to time I believe . So a bit confused what to choose . Thanks in advance .

    • The first descent projector for home theatre is about $900 benq w1060

  • I'm interested in getting a Sony hdr as20 but I notice jb price is $30 more than at teds cameras. Is this not part of the deal or anyone know the best place to purchase?

    • Some things have been more heavily discounted, that's prob one of the ones that wasn't

      • My mistake its showing $67 off now. Going to get it thanks

  • Just got the Sony KDL50W800B :)

    • Let us know how it goes :)

  • Disney infinity starter packs have now been reduced for all consoles. Now $59 For Avengers and $56 for Toy box version (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Search/results/?keywords=disney%20…)

  • Seriously considering the Samsung UA55H7000 55" at $1358.

TGG had it at $1997 this morning, which after the 120% guarantee would have made it $1230, but have since removed it from the website. Called the local store and it's now $1745, which would still equate to $1280, though I don't know if I could be bothered with the hassle to save only $78 :/

    • Yeah that one is nice for the version

    • Yeah I ordered that model today from J.B. Perfect for what I am looking for.

  • thanks Trent86, the samsung nx3000 looks okay for my selfie obsessed partner

    • That's a great price! Other day I put it up on special for $399 and that was cheap :)

  • Hisense hmm, $675 though for a 55" TV…

    • Hisense are actually pretty good quality, my bro has one and its just as good as my samsung

      • Bought it. Fifa plays nicely - the best test I know of. Small white ball flying around, ghosting is generally quite noticeable.

Funnily enough for 46" it replaces looks the same size, if not bigger. Massive bezel vs 1cm bezel on this. This is also 1/4 of the thickness.

  • Ffs paid 1331 for 55" samsung not long ago.

  • I love the Nikon D3300 camera deal, but it is body only. I wish it was SLK.

    • Cheap as & great camera, I have one.

  • Great deals, thanks!

Jb had run out of stock of the 60" sammy, so went to Harvey Norman and did a price match! Thanks op!

    • Still in stock online and shows in stock in store

  • Good deal OP. Just returning my Kogan Smart TV because it didn't do the smart TV properly….So perfect timing!

Anyone had any experiences/recommendations with the Sony/pana/hisense 50" (+/-) smart TVs? Looking to stream from a NAS, and a bit of YouTube watching, without constant buffering.

  • tossing between 60"LG and Samsung, any recommendation? basic TV watching, watching BR movies and occasional gaming for my son.

    • +1

They are pretty much on Par, the Lg one has magic remote and I think that's about it

  • Never to settle for a smaller screen size if budget can be stretched for a bigger. When sitting too close (because TV's too small) cannot get wide imaging from surround sound.
KDL70W850B, your price was forgotten when you played your first Bluray.

  • Just picked up the UA40H6400AW for $645.00 Thanks TRENT86

    • Hi bludge . I thought the model you picked up was 678 aud . How do we get it for 645 . Would you be able to upload the receipt please . I am after this tv too thanks

      • Mayeb the good guys?

        • Hi I went in to the Macquarie store & negotiated a better price then rang my local store at Top Ryde & had them match Macquarie from previous experience the guy on the TV's @ Ryde doesn't give a good price I dealt with a Richard.

Here's the link first time I've uploaded an image hope it works.
          http://imgur.com/sJHtjv8

        • @Bludge: Thanks so much . Appreciate it .

  • Bought Samsung UA55H7000 today, thanks!

  • that 70 inch SONY does looks good on price, wondering how much it will be during Christmas? anyone recommend this??

  • Cheers Trent. Finally got a TV. Samsung 60" $1271. Had to get it online as it was nowhere to be found locally.
