Good price but @15MB/s write speed it is only USB3 in name.

  • The product description is abit confusing. When they say "Mini USB 3.0 Flash Drive" is it the normal size USB that is used on a computer or the mini usb ports on a phone?

    • Normal size USB port, small overall size for keyring etc.

  • Applied the promo code "MERRY" only gives free shipping. Product price still showing $39 from the website (?)

    • Hi hsct,

Code is working. Can you check again the Shopping cart total in your shopping cart after applying the coupon code?

      Cheers

        • $15 voucher cannot be used with other coupon.

  • Thanks OP! Just ordered one.

  • Great deal, Cheers OP! Just ordered one.

  • 15MB write? Bit slow for USB 3.0 isn't it?
    It's a trap.

my all current usb 2.0 drives are lucky to go anywhere above 5.0 mbps. what is the usual speed for usb 3.0 drive? the external hard disks i have go around 100Mbps, but not sure about the usb drive.

      • For a standard quality one usually anywhere from 50-200MB/s read, write depends on capacity. Usually for a 32GB you can expect more around the 30-50MBPS+ mark.

Note that the 5MBPS you're using as a comparison is a real world reading; an actual number you've seen when transferring files. This 15MBPS is an ideal situation maximum, actual speeds would be much lower when copying multiple files. This USB 3.0 drive may even be slower than your 2.0 drive.

        • you'll notice when it comes to benchmarks the reviewer will usually copy a directory of mixed file types/size, this is because if you transfer hundreds of tiny files it may take a long time and transfer rate is lower but if you copy a single large file it should max out the speed of drive, another thing if you haven't figured it out, some manufacturers take us consumers for mugs, they take slow flash memory chips, whack on a usb 3.0 connector and call it a "usb 3 drive" knowing full well it won't reach anywhere near usb 3 speeds!

  • Thanks, just bought one.

Bought Kingston (Traveller I think) earlier this year on brand reputation without doing my homework and am now stuck with 2 horrendously slow 16GB keys (and I mean not worth me using!). Kingston's not a brand I'll be buying again soon.

They state they're only 15MBPS maximum write, it shouldn't be a surprise when you only get 5-10MBPS in a real world situation.
They're simply slow drives, cheap though.

      • Nothing unusable is cheap.

  • thanks I grabbed one

  • My impulse buy of the day. Thanks OP!

  • OUT OF STOCK…..

  • sold out

  • LOL I got mine and it became 'write protected' within 3 days of using it…so now its useless….you didn't miss out on anything. It was a POS

    • You should be able to recover it with a low level formatting tool.

      • you would think so, tried Kingston official tool and various others…they all error on the locked blocks. lame ass.
