I haven't found any cheap flights for Adelaide yet, so didn't post a link. When I find something under $1200 I'll post it up.

    • +4

That would be because Thai don't fly to Adelaide?!

      • Yep (unfortunately).

Get the AMEX card with free return flight to Melb/Syd/Brisbane and do it that way - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/166082

You should try living in Hobart! You kind of just give up on direct and learn to watch for Mel or Syd flights

  • +2

Wow.. wonder why Thai is sooooo cheap.. quite strange! they are normal premium prices!

  • I've never flown Thai international (only domestic). Can anyone comment on quality/comfort?

    • +6

Its amazing.. similar to Singapore airlines.. would definitely recommend, i've done both economy and business Mel - Bangkok - London return

      • Yes, I also agree.
Amazing price as cheap as return flight Australia-Bangkok

    • I'd highly recommend them, I actually preferred their economy seat to Singapore Airlines.

  • +3

This is cheap! I used to live in London and for anyone who hasn't been there before, it's a great city!

    • +1

      That's debatable!

Working Dates? I can't find anything near that price in May or June

  • +2

Question is, what is bestjet actually like to book with? Checking the same dates on Thai brings up a $700 price difference…

    edit: some info here:

    • By his own advice in one of the articles: “The other point is, with respect to travel deals — if it seems too good to be true, it often is.”

  • +1

Wow, cheap. Must - resist - urge.

  • OP - are there any destinations in Europe cheap?

  • Damn…. I'm trying to save cash but this might be too good to let go of!

  • -4

Probably get shot down with this deal

  • +4

OP - The reviews of BestJet are generally not good. As a promoter of their service through your website, what assurance can you give the OzB community that BestJet are a safe and reliable company to deal with?

Can you explain how can a company that offers fares around $500 cheaper than anyone else? Is it a case of the old adage "…if it's too good to be true……"

I think that "Iwantthatflight.com" is great, but I am just worried that a ridiculously low price from another third party is risky!

    Thanks

    • +1

Thank you. You said exactly what i've been thinking. While Iwantthatflight aren't (presumably) generating revenues directly through bestjet, it doesn't escape the fact there ought to be a degree of responsibility as to which products it promotes on its site. Otherwise iwantthatflight would struggle to be seen as a reputable product/service…

    • It looks like there are similar prices with other longer established websites which are also linked to when selecting the flights on IWantThatFlight. For the flight I looked at from BNE:

      Best Jet = $920
      BYO Jet = $975
      Jetabroad = $983

    • +1

      Hi ticket65,

As Donga100 says, there are a few other sites doing similar prices. If BestJet were the only ones doing this deal I would have called them up to make sure the deal was legit & not a pricing error (as has happened in the past).

Regarding whether BestJet are a "safe and reliable company to deal with". That is a fair question. They gave assurances to this effect when we started doing business with them (no surprises there). We have been showing their flights for about a year now and have not received any complaints about their service from our users.

      • Yep bestjet is pretty amazing, they book the tickets on time alongwith meals, FF number and always allot good seats and are so cheap compared to their competitors. Have booked 2 tickets with them from PER-PEK and PER-BLR. Amazing Service, keep it up guys :)

Edit: They are also based in Australia, I think and have a local contact number so that's useful, unlike some of the European travel agents.

  • +1

No doubt the recent drop in oil price has played a part. Putin says Russia is prepared for oil price collapse as more sanctions threatened. So maybe we can expect more cheap air fares.

  • +3

I booked Sydney to Paris return in May for $792
Via BestJet - initially got BestJet confirmation then after about 1 hour e-ticket followed so I guess it's all good :)

  • what is my best option for late january? cant find anything under $1400.

  • +1

Sorry for noob question, but how does BestJet gets such good prices compared to Thai Airways website?
    Something like $830 compared to ~$1450 (Sydney-Paris)?

    • +1

I have heard that most travel agents charge ridiculous amounts of their own fees and commission but Bestjet keep it pretty low, I think that's one of the reasons they are the best in the market.

  • +3

Pro tip: booking with BYOJET you can choose to pay by BPAY - gives you some time to ask the employer/wife/husband/dog/cat if you are allowed the time off or not before paying.

  • Argh, don't know what to do, I already have multi-city tickets with Emirates: Sydney-Madrid / Copenhagen-Sydney next year, but similar flight with Thai Air comes up at $841 which is twice as cheap and then some!

Cancelling Emirates probably cost ~$200 per ticket which still makes this deal very tempting..

  • Dilemma, just got confirmation Thai prices are an error and do not include fuel surcharges, add an extra $800. Will they honour or ask for difference/refund?

    • Darn it, too good to be true, $3580 from Perth to Paris, 2xadults 2xkids. Gotta wait and see what the update price is, sigh…

    • Ouch, thanks for coming back about this, glad didn't cancel my other flight!

    • Really? You booked off this site and then called Thai they told you this???

    • I just contacted JetAbroad about this. They told me that Thai Airways is aware of the issue, however they will honour any bookings made while the fares are at this price. However, the airfares will be returned to the correct price soon.

      I'll contact BestJet now.

      • +1

        What about BYOjet?

    • Bizarrely it's also available on Thai's own website at a lower fare than BestJet & Jetabroad.

    • OK - just got off the phone with BestJet. The rep that I spoke to had just booked several Thai Airways flights without any issue. He said that the price drop was completely legitimate and not the result of any error (on the part of Thai Airways or anyone else).

    • prices are an error and do not include fuel surcharges

I had a feeling that might be the case. Well done to those who got in early and didn't hesitate. :)

  • +1

I booked with travel.com.au, as it was the only one giving me the option of changing/cancelling the fare. Expedia fare, although a bit cheaper, was non-refundable

    • can't see these fares at this price or cheaper on travel.com.au or expedia.com.au

    • howmuch more did you pay on travel.com?

      • Melbourne <-> Paris (in June)

        960 bucks

  • Anything for July-September next year rep?

  • Now that I have purchased the ticket, how/when do we know they have actually honoured it?

    • When you get a booking reference (usually a 6 number/letter combo) this should indicate the fare has been ticketed by the airline. You can often then grab that fare and check your booking on the airline website.

      • Yes I have received a Thai booking reference from Travel.com.au booking.

I just checked my booking on the Thai website, and got this message

The following error(s) occured: We are unable to find this confirmation number. Please validate your entry and try again or contact us for further information. (8104 - 1929)

    • Wait for the email from ViewTrip with the e-ticket, once the e-ticket has been issued you are good to go!

Mine arrived about 30 minutes after receiving the initial booking confirmation from BestJet. Once you get the e-ticket it will also show Thai's internal booking number and you can go to the Thai Airways website to allocate seats, request special meals etc.

      • +2

If you don't want to wait you can look up your itinerary/ticket on one of these websites. You will need the 6-digit booking reference and your last name.

www.checkmytrip.com (Singapore Airlines, Qantas, + others)
www.viewtrip.com (BestJet, Flight Centre, + others)
www.virtuallythere.com (Virgin Australia, Etihad, + others)

You might need to try more than one as each website represents a popular booking system used by airlines/travel agents. These three cover most major airlines and travel agents.

  • FlightCentre played it very well, they said they werent taking booking as Thai had told them it was an error and would not be honoured. Looks like Thai have fixed the error as the deals are no longer coming up.

    • For prices like this it had to be an error, no doubt about it.
Are they going to honour it it's another question.

  • +5

God it's frustrating having a partner sometimes. Having to try and coordinate dates/annual leave etc. Whilst racing against the clock of a soon to expire deal. If it was just me I'd have bagged myself a cheap flight and be laughing.

    • +1

Just pick some dates and let him/her work around it.

    • +1

Not only sometimes, I'd say often!

    • +9

Stuff them. I called my wife and i got the i will think about it tonight BS. Well, don't worry, the $1000 flights are now $1800, you are now staying home for the holidays.

      • +1

Best part of reading this thread is the frustrations with partners making decisions or when you go "should I, shouldn't I, whoops too late expired".

  • Anyone know what happen if you book and cancel, pretty vague on the terms and conditions, is it $200 fee per adult, 150 per child? Take that away from total amount?

    Thanks

  • FYI I booked MEL-PARIS in May for $778 return directly with Thai airways. No issues, and my booking was available online and received itinerary already.

  • Anyone getting any around $920 fares to Melbourne London Return in May??? Pleaseeee.

    • +1

Sorry, I think this has finished.

  • i booked a flight from Byojet and chose Bpay, but didnt get an email back. I called them and they say there is an error with the price we will call you back.

  • Hey guys. I got a confirmation number from Thai Airways which works on the site. But I haven't received an e ticket receipt from them. Do you think it should be ok???

    • You will be fine

  • Hey guys, I booked with BestJet and received their generic confirmation immediately after booking but have not received my e-ticket yet - Is there anyone else in the same boat?

I presume there will be bad news coming my way but I’m hoping against hope that this is not the case

    • Did you get an airline reference in tax invoice receipt? If you chuck that into the Thai airways website. It shows up. I've got the same issue

  • Thanks OP for this post. Got two return flights from Sydney to Munich over Easter and again in June for $1700

  • Thanks wozup.

Yeah I did actually – I hadn’t noticed that until now. Maybe all is not lost after all. (Thanks in advance for raising my hopes only for them to be severely dashed once again!!)

I just logged onto the ‘Manage my booking’ section and the booking exists – Can anyone in the know of airline booking engine’s suggest if this means I will in fact be able to go airside?

  • +1

A booking reference is not enough. You need an e-ticket number. Thai could in theory refuse to issue e-tickets then you won't be able to fly. E-tickets however are generated automatically these days so chances are high you'll get it if you have a booking reference number and have already paid.

    • Those who paid by credit card should be OK. A lot less likely if you elected to pay by bpay.

    • Thanks RD – All I have is an ‘Airline Reservation Code’ so it sounds like that will not be enough if Thai decide they want to renege on the deal (which I’d imagine they will because I’d say they are getting fairly burnt on it).

I guess I’ll just have to wait and see but I’d imagine the E-Ticket should have come through by now if it was going to come because people up above said it took about 30 mins to arrive in their email and it’s been over 5hrs now for me!!

      • Have you tried entering the Airline Reservation Code at www.checkmytrip.com? You may be able to find an eticket there already. It would be 13 digits and start with 217.

        • Thanks for the tip donga. Unfortunately I cannot see a digit a 13 digit code starting with 217 on CheckMyTrip but the names, trip details etc. are showing up.

Can anyone who has been given an E-Ticket number confirm whether they can see the 13 digit code when they check their trip on CheckMyTrip?

        • Yes, my e-ticket number is showing in checkmytrip. It is hidden in the section with your name in it.

        • @rd:
Yeah, I don’t have any drop-down or hidden details where my name is unfortunately. It just purely has my name – obviously no E-Ticket has been allocated yet then.

That is very unfortunate, I fear this will all end in misery!! If anyone has any more ideas, I’d be more than open to hearing about them? Thanks

Edit: Just refreshed the link in CheckMyTrip and now there is an E-Ticket number starting with 217 - Thanks RD

Now it all comes down to Thai's appetite to either take the hit on their P&L or on their PR - Let's wait and see!

  • -1

can you still book these, been trying Bris to paris or London (Apr/May) and just not getting any of these deals?

  • OzBargained with IWantThatFlight

    • I am trying iwantthatflight, the prices I select are the specials then they change to over $1200

  • FYI i talked to Flight Center, and STA today, and both company advised (after agreeing on price match) thats this is an error from Thai airways and they cant put the price through on their system at last step . Thai airs stuffed up their pricing (forgetting to add surcharges). So this ticket may not be valid.

For whoever bought it, good luck with waiting for eticket. Otherwise, act fast for your refund.

Perhaps you should buy travel insurance now to cover this.

    • +1

i booked quite late and got my eticket. once that is sorted, there are generally no issues with errorfares.

    • +1

Erm, not sure if travel insurance covers this particular situation!

  • Did people who booked when this offer was available have their tickets honored? Any news from Thai on it?

    • once the e ticket is issued its all good… flown on thai tickets where fuel tax wasn't charged and they honoured the ticket no problems….

  • Looks like I got e-ticket overnight. CONFIRMED + E-TICKET #

Thanks WebJet and OZbargain once again. Don't think we'll ever see fairs like this again.

    • Thanks so much OP. My e-ticket came through overnight also and I've selected my seats and meals. Definitely the best deal I've ever gotten. Thanks again

      • myoda, Meathead, could you please private inbox me, I need your help.
