Failing either of those, PDFCreator is another great free product that can turn any printable document, web page, spreadsheet etc. to a PDF. Been using it for years.

Just acts like a printer, you print, pick the pdf printer and then save the pdf where you want it.

There are lots of free ones.

agree with previous comments about other freewares to create PDFs (+CutePDF)
BUT this software creates PDFs AND converts from PDF into other formats.
    ie. reverse conversion

converts from PDF into other formats.

So it is just an OCR application.

I am not complaining as someone said, there are just lots of alternatives out there.
So do some research and see if there is something better for your needs first

        No, PDFs are not images…

        • Not your average pdfs that you download off the internet, but trust me there are big business records management companies out there that turn archives and archives worth of paper files into digitized pdfs. Of course you can do it on a small scale with your own scanner at home too.

I think you could be right though that it's unlikely to be an OCR application.

OCR works on more than just images.

If the PDF is secured and the text cannot be copied and pasted out of the document then you need OCR to convert the PDF text into something usable.

thanks for backing up battler…guys, some guys are just pure whingers..for chirst sake..its a freebie…if u like it, download it if dont..move ahead..

    • I think the point is that it's not a very convincing freebie since the market is flooded with freebies like it. There must be a hundred thousand free software tools just on cnet.com.

why didnt u post it thn…??

    • Because it's against the posting rules, no matter how great the free software is.

There is no need to get defensive, unless you're affiliated with that program. No-one has attacked your post; rather people are merely pointing out the fact that the product does not stand out against the myriad of PDF converters freely available. The main merit of this post is that the software is not normally free. The product itself seems shoddy.

First page has two negative reviews, and no overall positive reviews.

  • use pdfit as an addon in mozilla if you want to create pdfs of websites….

Just to throw another program in the midst http://www.primopdf.com/

(but im sure we've got the idea already)

  • There are heaps of free PDF creaters, but this software appears to be able to do the reverse ie convert a PDF into Word etc. There are a few tools and all of them have their own quirks. A lot of forms, specially the government ones, are PDFs and I find it easier to convert them to Word and fill in. Wanted to give it a go, but reviews say the conversion is pretty bad.

      Check out foxit reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/reader3.php

It is a PDF reader like acrobat, it is completley free, and faster than acrobat.

It also has a text tool allowing you to type directly into the pdf file, you can also highlight and do a bunch of other stuff.

Foxit also make a great pdf editor (not free) which allows you to directly edit a pdf file.

        No.

PDF to "other format" converters are not normally doing OCR. PDFs have textual data in text elements which can be read accurately and easily as opposed to OCR.

        • If the PDF is not secured then it is just as simple as copy+paste.

If the PDF is secured then getting the text out is not a simple copy+paste as the text elements are removed, essentially the PDF ai an image.
OCR however will let you extract the text into editable format.

If the PDF is not secured then it is just as simple as copy+paste.

PDF to "other format" converters do a lot more than simple copy and pasting of text. They reproduce graphic elements, tables etc and try to make the resulting document look as close as to the original PDF. Of course if the orignal letters are not "textual data" but images (by way of securing or other means), a converter cannot handle it unless it has OCR. Almost all of the forms (eg. government forms) that I have had to fill had textual data (not secured or images)

            Check this review:

            http://www.freewaregenius.com/2008/03/28/how-to-convert-pdf-…

I have used Koolwire and it is surprisingly better than most other tools.

  • Anyone found any recent comparison reviews on the major print-to-PDF programs (Not that interested in the reverse process)?
I could donwload them all and try them I know but…

  • Anyone know then of a really good tool that converts pdfs into Word docs?

cutePDF is the way to go. Free download
