  • Is the QD-OLED a big jump from VA?

    • +12

      Yes. Username checks out.

    • +5

Night and day difference. Dell's warranty also covers burn in for 3 years so that is also not an issue.

      • How is it for office use, is text fringing there, I was using a lg oled tv and it was bothering me to no end

    • +5

Still getting used to the deep blacks and smoothness on my qdoled, as I never realised how washed out and blurry VA panels are

    • +2

      lol?

  • +1

Interesting new size? Or have 27" monitors always been 26.7" and just rounded up?

    • +3

They are often rounded up, some are even as low as 26.5, but you do sometimes find genuine 27in or even 27.1

  • -4

Can we get 4k resolution at this price?

    • +16

If it was, I would've posted it. OLED or 4k at this price, not both.

  • +3

How does the education/partner program work?

    • +5

Go to the dell edu page, request a discount code to be sent to an email (any email works, doesn’t have to be edu) and they’ll send you a code. Buy with the code.

      • Thank you!

      • What’s the direct link to dell edu page?

      • Just request it from chat?

  • +2

$594 is a great deal, bought, thanks OP. Also its cheaper than Kogans QD-OLED 27 inch which seems to use the same panel.

  • $594 vs the the $850 I paid for the AW3425DW hmmn. I guess probably the 34 was a better deal

    • +1

      Definitely

    • depends on what you use it for.. For the type of games I play they either do not support wide angles, or for the games that does, my system won't be able to maintain good framerate while pushing those extra pixels.

      • If you enjoy cp2077 there's also that issue with ultrawides that creates a weird white glow around certain areas

  • Is this comparable to Apple studio display?

    • +6

No, this is designed primarily for eSports gaming.

ASUS ProArt 5K, Dell Ultra sharp or LG 5K ultrafine would be the equivalents outside of the Mac ecosystem.

If you're not in a rush, might be better to wait for the WOLED models releasing in Aus end of this month. They will be much cheaper than current OLED and should handle text better

  • anyone able to help me out with an edu coupon code?

    • from my experience, they are tied to your account and not applied as individual coupons

      • +1

        oooh gotcha, thanks :)

  • Im debating between this and an ultrawide oled, honeslty cant decide.

    • +2
      1. Can your GPU push those extra pixels while meeting your expected frame rates at similar quality setting?
      2. Are the games you playing have native ultra-wide resolution support?
      3. Do you consume other applications that supports ultra-wide resolutions on full screen? (movies / streaming..)

If the answer to all 3 are NO, then don't bother.

      • Best take possible regarding Utrawide OLED. Even YouTube is disappointing on a ultrawide.

    • Ultrawide on games that doesn't support ultrawide is still fine.
      OLED has true black.

      • yeah but some games you cannot play on ultrawide and forces black bars :(

Dell monitors are a pile of trash now. My $800 2721d has a red line just after the 3 year warranty period and they won’t do anything. My other ones lasted forever. Disposable tech now.

    • +14

That sucks, but you can't really draw a conclusion about the entire brand based on a sample set of 1

    • +3

      https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/broken-but-out-of-warr…

get ai to help you claim it. I've had good luck getting it fixed out of warranty. under australian consumer law you have a right to repair, replace or refund regardless of the manufacturers warranty or policys. australian consumer law applys.

    • +1

sent you a pm how to get it fixed

    • I have a G3223Q IPS 144hz 4K. solid as hell, no problems whatsoever

2 other Dells came before that, no issues there either. all of them mounted tool-less on Dell Single Monitor Arm MSA20, a solid investment in its own right

every time sold them on at about 75% of what I paid originally. only upgraded first time because I wanted a one cable usb-c hub solution, and the second time because I wanted a gaming one. a4k one. and G3223Q is here to stay. I stopped gaming on it as I just don't have time, and prefer Switch for that (handheld). or Xbox.

so I can't say the same mate. no complaints about Dell monitors

  • Great monitor. Wish they had more usb ports at back for permanently attached accessories as the 2 at the bottom egde of bezels aren't so great aesthetically :)

    • +1

Flat USB hub on the back + double sided tape or velcro.

        1. Where do you propose, the hub gets plugged to? Because there are no usb ports at the back.
        2. Why need for third party patchworks when they can easily put one or two there? (its already on their earlier qdoled monitor and they already have usb hub function through accessory cable for this…such a BS cost cutting method)
        • Dunno why you're asking me the second question, I don't work for Dell lmao.

And just plug it into your PC. I had a small hub just sitting on my desk for a while when I was swapping lots of stuff, doesn't get in the way much.

  • Anyone knows a best way to get rid of old monitors?

    • +7

List them on Facebook marketplace or Gumtree.

    • +3

or give them to me for free.

    • Working or faulty?

  • -1

Tempting. But I'm not a fan of seeing my own reflection while watching dark scenes in movies. And apparently burn in is still an issue with OLED panels.

  • How’s the text fringing issue on this monitor if anyone has tried it?

  • Super tempting. Any guesses what 4th gen OLED will be at launch for same size & resolution $850+?

  • -1

    250 nitts too dim

    • +1

      250 SDR

      1000 peak for HDR

    • I thought so at first too, but it's actually plenty fine. I actually love eye-searingly bright.

I used to use my old VA monitor at max brightness 350 nits, but since upgrading to OLED, 250 nits doesn't bother me at all. It's bright enough to cut through indirect sunlight and it actually looks punchier due to the much better contrast.

As the other person mentioned, it gets much brighter in HDR too.

  • Is this a good upgrade from a 27"Acer XB1 predator xb27qhu with IPS? I don't want any bigger than 27".

    • Running the same primary monitor here, would like to know as well. May use the predator as the secondary

    • Yes 1000%. It's OLED so deeper blacks and better power efficiency. And the refresh rate his higher so you can output more FPS that will actually be visible on the monitor
