  • How good is the CPU, anyone knows?

    • +1

      Not bad according to this:
      http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+J1900+…

Its on par with i3 Y-series.

      • It thoroughly trounces the N2820 CPU from the recent NUC deals if Passmark scores are anything to go by (although single thread ratings are on par).

        N2820 - 1006
        J1900 - 1934

Not saying Passmark is the be all and end all of benchmarks but it's certainly a reasonable indicator at least.

        • Anyone know how this (J1900) unit would compare to the Gigabyte Brix 2955U which is supposed to be superseding the J1900 unit.

The CPU is a fanless bay trail Atom geared towards HTPC. I have got a custom built box with Asrock Q1900-ITX and it's excellent for video playback (FHD 15+mbps). It even has Intel Quick Sync for fast video encoding. I don't know what Gigabyte used as their PSU but I am using a pico DC-ATX unit with a 36W brick and my idle is about 9W and full load is 17W.

I normally don't recommend CPL for anyone but this deal is actually quite good. If I didnt have access to low priced Chinese components I would go for this.

      • Sounds like it is fitting your needs.

It's a 24/7 download box + HTPC. I even run a few VM XPs on it

        • @maxhu: It certainly looks like a good low power option. I was just thinking about it as a download box.

        • @aim54x:

It's almost overkill as just a download box. This thing would be a fantastic XBMC/Openelec front end, like a Raspberry Pi on steroids.

I have the J2900 in my media centre (which is only a slightly beefier version of the J1900), and it is excellent and very low power.

    • Too lazy to upload a pic so here's my Windows 7 Index:

      cpu - 6.4
      ram - 5.9 (1x4G ddr1333)
      graphic - 4.3
      gaming - 5.6
      hdd - 7.7 (Intel 530 SSD)

Only down side I found so far is the low single threaded performance - around 550 but then again single thread is always bad on small TPD cpu.

what exactly do you need in HTPC?

  • Would love something like this, but need to include a DVD and my twin tuner (PCI-E).
My existing HTPC is about 6-7 years old so was hoping to upgrade to a lower power device like this…

  • when using for general web surfing and htpc , this would be alot better than the microserver (N40L) I'm using now?

edit: is the licence installed or could i use it on another PC ?

  • Can it run MS office too? Looking for something for the kids for their homework.

  • Any chance of running another deal on these?
