I am surprised they actually know the stock levels. Last time I checked my local Target store staff wouldn't know their own store stock levels unless they check the shelves and the back. They honestly told me they are still using 20 years old system and does not show stock levels in their system.
@wtfnodeal: The terminals may not be able to display stock levels but the stock management system itself would very likely keep track of any stock changes. Although it may still be 24 hours between updates to what the employees on the customer service number see.

I remember this deal at K-mart, except it was $179. I got there 2 minutes after they opened, and got the third and last one. The amount of stock they get for such a big promotion is ridiculous. Sold out in 2 minutes. There should be advertising standards. You're going to get way more people into the store trying to get it than you can satisfy, and while they're in there, they shop for other things. Bit like a bait n switch.
Well to be fair, they did offer rainchecks at Kmart and got more stock in subsequent to the initial shipment (and in the meantime they even sold the Premium Mario Kart bundle at the same price).
I agree that they should have had more stock upfront, but at least they didn't just wash their hands of it.
Really? I don't know about Kmart, but when Target had it for $269 with MK8, they said no rainchecks. I assumed Kmart would have been the same.
Saw these yesterday at lakeside joondalup, didn't post up the deal as they only had 2 and the guy reckoned that was it as other local stores had none.

These were 95% sold out since the sale in Jun-Jul when they were $169-179 at Target & Kmart. These are just the remaining scattered stock & you would be lucky to even get one.
I expect there to be a SSBU Premium bundle sometime early Dec or next year. SSB is the 2nd or 3rd best selling IP beside Mario Kart & Zelda; I think they are waiting to see how much the current bundles sell before producing a console bundle.
Just picked one up from Morley Galleria in WA. It was the only one on the shelf, but might still be worth giving them a call and checking.

Nearly exact the same situation, was in Target Geelong, actually looked to see if they had Wii U's and the new 3DS, but wasn't aware of this deal missed my chance to ask the staff. Sliding doors moment, my kids could have been Nintendo kids all summer, joyous and smiling, now it is looking like I may need to parent them instead of leaving the TV to do that. Not happy.
I purchased one from Target Castlemaine, Vic. They didn't have any of the of the packs but they made up the bundle separately for me which was nice. Receipt posted below.

IIRC the wii U (and 3ds) sales are abysmal in comparison to the wii and DS sales.
Actually got nothing to do with the wii u. They don't want to get caught with the olds sky landers game given they release one every 6- 12 months.
Is there really much advantage to the wii u? The diy homebrew on wii u cannot do many of the key features the homebrew on the wii can.
What about the fact that it's a completely different system with different games?
Actually, the wiiu's wii mode is completely hackable and will run many of the key features of wii homebrew.
Doesnt run backups as far as I can see.

This is actually a clearance product and stores will not be getting any more stock. I just checked and stock is limited in Melbourne. Some locations which may have stock are Ringwood, Chadstone, Fountain Gate, Hoopers Crossing, Broadmeadows, Mornington and 1 or 2 others I can't remember. These stores are showing (as of 48 hours ago) 1-2 units in stock.
