  • Rep, can you do a sale on Netgear R7000? I saw the R7000 on your email couple days ago for today's sale

    • It should be the R8000 on newsletter preannoucement. R7000 not in the Black Friday List.

      Cheers
      SE

      • -1

That's unfortunate. I would also have liked to have the R7000 on the list.

        • -1

Me too, reviews are more favorable for R7000 than R8000.

    • This is going at the top so everyone sees.

They currently have the 128gb micro sd at $289 NOT EVEN OFFICEWORKS has it as that much and every other store has it between $115-130 standard price…

This is just shoppingexpress taking every moron out there for a ride and pretending they have a sale by jacking up prices and then reducing their real price by maybe 5%…

Completely dishonest trading and exactly why I stopped going to "sales"…

There have been many articles lately about cracking down on this practice.

RRP are never actually used in the real world, stop advertising RRP as real prices and tricking people into thinking they are getting a 70% saving when really they are getting maybe a 5% saving. The 128gb micro sd is all over the internet between $115 and $126.

I am a tight ass, but seriously I am happy giving that extra $10 to someone other than your business just based on your dishonesty.

      • +3

Time for a cup of tea and a lie down. Officeworks has it for exactly $289. I don't think you're comparing the same cards.

        http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/sandisk-128gb…

        • +1

Office works same card for 69cents cheaper… No one advertisers this card for $289… Office works has it this high as they are a walk in store with staff and way more overheads and they also price match. It has only been done to make it look like a legit crazy sale when really it is only 5% off…
So on that note I will match at office works with 5% off… Yes they will do it when you ask the right person.

REP… you are kidding people right? $289 currently for the 128gb micro SD, yet tomorrow it will be $110? WOW what a bargain…
That $289 is more than even Officeworks has it for… many places have it for $115 standard price…
If you are going to BS people with 50-70% "sales" at least do it with some class…

    • It is $129 for 2.

    • REP, Since these are in your current catalogue (until 1 dec) @$99 for 1…
how can you claim to be getting the second one free @ $129 ???

You can only charge $99, (1 or 2 if get one free) …any more and it is not "free" - so will land you in the you know what.

Love how you guys inflate the RRP prices - $399 for the 256GB Sandisk Ultra Plus when its $115 from MSY and around $130-$160 from everywhere else. How do you guys live with yourselves to claim this? "$290 off"..

    • +14

I agree. I'm going to have to neg this deal. I emailed SE over inflating prices to exaggerate savings and I got this pathetic response.

      Dear xxx,

      Thanks for the email.
when this product was first released we were selling for $599, as of now a normal price was $519 and we have since >reduced it again to $489.
the saving % only works off the RRP price , so for now i have requested that the RRP be removed from this unit, i hope it >is now more clear for you.

any questions please let me know.

      cheers.

      Kind Regards,
      James.

If that's the only way the savings % can be displayed, then they need to fix the website as they even admit to doing the savings off RRP, instead of the normal price which is illegal. For clarification this is in relation to the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1. The card's RRP may have been $599, but none of the stores I looked at from its launch ever sold it at RRP.

P.s. Nothing against the some of the deals, but this practice must be stopped.

      • Not nice SE. Very naughty

        • +3

There are limitations on our website (we've used this system for some years) and things we can improved on - good news is that we are already designing a new website and it should address this issue. Once it's ready we will definitely offer "opening ceremony sale" for you guys :)

          Cheers
          SE

        • -3

          @ShoppingExpress:
To be very honest that's not a good enough response.

The RRP comparison has no place in your website unless that's the price you were selling products at prior to any discounts.

This obviously is not the case. So why not just do the savings % off the the actual previous price? Simple enough to edit the wording in your pages without a complete redesign.

        • +7

          @IceCreamBandit:

They will need to be careful and hope someone does not make an official complaint as a national campaign has been launched to crackdown on businesses making false or misleading "was/now" price claims.

        • +6

@IceCreamBandit: This practice is carried out by many if not ALL retailers, don't understand why you are singling out shopx ?

        • I don't see where they said "Was…now"
"RRP…now" doesn't claim that it was ever sold at RRP by them.

        • @rokkz:

Because this is a deal by ShoppingExpress, and the comments for this deal are a place to discuss this merchant?

If another shop did the same thing and had deals here, I'd do the same thing.

        • @supabrudda:
On many of the product pages, there is a part which displays the RRP, and there is a saving % next to it. If you calculate the savings % it refers to the now price and the RRP. If they are going to advertise/display the %, it is implied that that's the discount being offered to customers. The inflated figure is misleading and illegal.

The rep themselves have said the issues with be addressed with the new website and I look forward to it. I an a fan of the shop and the prices, it's just very disappointing when something like this happens.

        • It's not illegal. If they claimed they were selling it the RRP, but never did (or did only briefly) then yes that's illegal.

It's not misleading or deceptive conduct. If they can show that the manufacture/supplier had a RRP that was grossly inflated, then they're tellign the truth.

again you seem not to know the difference between "RRP $x" & "Was $x"
          There's a big difference.

        • @IceCreamBandit:

No problem…..be my guest…let my know when your finished…

To quote from the ACCC website.

          "Misleading comparisons
Comparisons between 'cost/wholesale' and 'sale' prices can be misleading if the specified 'cost/wholesale' price is greater than what the business paid for the goods. Consumers may be more likely to purchase goods if the gap between the wholesale and retail price is perceived to be smaller than what it actually is.

Price comparisons can also be misleading where, for example, a business uses a competitor's price for identical goods, but that price is taken from a different market or geographical location.

Depending on individual circumstances, businesses using statements such as 'savings' or 'discounts' when comparing a sale price to the recommended retail price (RRP) may be misrepresenting potential savings if the product has never been sold at the RRP or the RRP does not reflect a current market price."

          taken from https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/displaying-prices

Hope they were selling at the rrp at some stage or they are in big trouble if someone reports it. And if they have the wrong rrp on their site then they better fix it up for those products.

        • +7

          @IceCreamBandit:

No honestly this guy should not be getting down votes… He is actually spot on for what he is saying about FAKE BS sale prices…

They currently have the 128gb micro sd at $289 NOT EVEN OFFICEWORKS has it as that much and every other store has it between $115-130 standard price…

This is just shoppingexpress taking every moron out their for a ride and pretending they have a sale by jacking up prices and then reducing their real price by maybe 5%…

Completely dishonest trading and exactly why I stopped going to "sales"…

    • Oops, thanks for highlighting & spotting on that one - fixing that right now.

      cheers
      SE

    • Umm you guys don't seem to understand is RRP = Recommended Retail Price. It's not the Street Price (which is what you're comparing to), nor the usual price. It's the price recommended by the manufacturer/supplier.

I'm guessing the RRP quoted are old (probably the RRP when the product was released). I agree it's a bit devious/dubious, and they deserve some flak. But usually SE's sale prices are pretty good.

      • +1

Considering the case of the SSD example - if it was not because of the free shipping, I would have been quite happy to get it from MSY local store even for $5 more. As bad as they are for service, they do not rely on dodgy advertising tactics because of a genuinely low price.

Furthermore, the laws are to protect consumers against false pretense and in this situation, I do not believe that SE does sell things at RRP prices and hence why the "savings" should be relative to their normal prices as opposed to any RRP price. In fact, the most expensive place in Australia outside of SE is only around $200 or so - almost half the cost of your so-called "RRP".

  • Hi Rep,

any possibility of a special on the Gigabyte N2807 BRIX like you had recently - I missed out on that offer and need something to put my SSD I bought from you a few days back?

    • We were considering Brix but prices have gone up quickly on Intel NUCs & Brix (AUD dropping), so we have to give a miss on today's promotion. But we are still working on it, so there is a chance it will be feautred on future/upcoming deals.

    • spec wise the only difference is the ram, lenovo has 4gb over the 2gb which is offered by hp. would make a noticible difference while multitasking/opening multi tabs in a browser. you also get a usb 3.0 slot on the lenovo in comparison with the usb2.0 offered by the hp. i would go for lenovo on this one.

p.s. the previous hp/compaq models that i have used all suffered from overheating. this had made me stay away fron the hp

    • Consider adding a SSD and upping the RAM to the max supported. Did my mum's desktop last week; boot went from 10min to 45sec & shutdown is now about 10sec. Used the Crucial MX100 256GB.

  • Any chance you can do a deal on one of the better GTX970's, such as the Asus Strix or the MSI?

    • EVGA is a well known brand for gaming graphics card and also been requested by fellow ozbargainers?

      As for your suggested brand:
Asus Video card in Australia is harder to get good deals, MSI we've gone crazy last week, today it's sold at lowest in Australia at $479

      cheers
      SE

      • Thanks, I just saw that the MSI was cheap. As for the EVGA, I wouldn't touch it due to reports of it crashing.

        • We do offer warranty for them so if any issues you get covered. Also, we know this brand is selling very well - in fact one of the best selling brand. So how many reports of it crashing did you see, it may not reflect the overall situation/major issue of this card as all cards are subject to failure and that is when warranty comes in.

          Cheers

  • Rep, glad people can now get the game bundle with the 970/980, but for those of us that bought the Gigabyte G1 gaming cards on the 18th/11 looks like we will miss out? After us also querying about the missing games deal at that time too? The deal was being run worldwide at the time, so why can only those who purchased in Aust after 20th Nov get the deal??
Who can we contact\follow-up with to formally complain?

    • Hi happyjoyjoy007,

We were informed by different vendors on the 20th - that Australia is officially included in the "Pick your Path" promotion. Our promotion did came slightly earlier (bad timing for those that want free game) but i do believe ozbargainers will able to get their way around this in their own way.

So the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 GAMING sold from the deal last week will qualify for this?

    • I would love to know this to.

    • The ones sold on 20th definitely qualify (our last day of promotion was 20th). Current claiming procedure will be contacting gigabyte (because their official claim page is not up yet) which they should respond and provide the code after some verification.

    Rep,

you have listed your shipping times, but what is your dispatch times on average?

first time ive browsed your site and was impressed with your prices, especially when compared to your competitors.

I purchased the gtx 970 cards during the black friday sales, curious to know what the having dispatch time is so i can have an idea when to expect my delivery.

hopefully not too long as i mentioned, i was impressed with your prices.

    Thanks

    • Hi yeggles,

Each of our listing have their "estimated dispatch time" provided - which is 1-2 working days for the GTX 970.

For anything we put 1-2 working days on our listing, it means either same day, next business day or 1 more days.
