  • Really cheap deal nice find, however seems it could be a price error. When you sort mobile from "Cheapest first" this phone appears above a $398 phone, leading me to believe it could be $420 but it's somehow listed at $220. Hopefully this is just coincidence.

    • +10

Nah that should be correct, was $248 a few weeks ago

      • +1

Okay, maybe the original price was >$398 but the order just wasn't adjusted. Not sure. $220 is a great steal for this phone though.

        • Yeah it was $248 on special I meant :)

    • -3

Remember, it's a Windows device, made by Nokia. if you like a big screen to read Kindle eBooks, & are OK using a Win 8.x device as a phone, it may be good value for you.

We got a non-Intel, 5" screen, Android ASUS ZenFone for $235 shipped, a while ago. smaller screen, but 2 GB RAM & fast quad-core chip made me buy it. (it too can let me read eBooks.)

      • you can also make calls and play games too, just like any other device. Also. With ASUS Zenfone, you do get what you pay for.

        • Asus zenfone 5 is great I love mine but mine was 150 delivered for 8 gig version.

  • Awesome price

    • +15

I have been running WP for many years and the current selection of apps is fine. Just because it does not have 800,000+ useless apps, does not make it worse. Every person I have shown WP too, have said they would never go back to iPhone or droid.

      • +5

I got a 1520 few weeks ago instead of the 1320 for few reasons, WP these days is so much different, I have no problem at all and honestly prefer this than my 6+ for signal strength and typing smoothness

        • +1

yeah I bought the 1520, double the price, but about double most of the the specs too. It's fantastic.

        • +1

@omniX32: plus Here+ worldwide FREE navigation, Microsoft Office, great Camera, long battery life, under sun readability, etc, worth every single bucks lol

      • have u tried the Note 4, and read up on the upcoming Gear VR?

        • +2

the smoothness of WP is the best, you cannot find a lag lol

      • +3

So have I been and hate it everyday.
Those very few apps that are available, many of them have half the functionality compared to Apple or Android apps. Some major providers like ANZ does not even care for a app. Sydney tripview app which has a very decent free version for both android and apple, wants $4.
Sorry I have to disagree. Does not matter how many negs I get…..don't kid yourselves. Lol.

        • You won't get a neg for that, but FYI I have a free version of Tripview on my Lumia 520 for more than 6 months now.

        • @Max2010:
ummm, for some reason I never found Tripview free on my windows phone. Lucky you. I just searched it again, it's not free now.

        • @Max2010:
Still $3.99 on my windows phone. Then again those with windows phone can spare the cash!

        • +1

          @gunnny:

They don't say 'free' but if you installed and keep using them as the trial version which is equivalent to the free version on Android. Read their fine print description for more info.

        • @Max2010:
Thanks max. Will give it a try then.

      • -1

I consider Tripview and ANZ mobile banking a bit more than useless.

      • +2

I don't see any reason to -switch- to a WP in your post.

Of course, if one HAS gone to a WP, for some reason, they will tend NOT want to admit a mistake, hence "wouldn't switch back"

        • Nailed it!

        • Yep… That kind of critical thinking comes from all the Science-related MOOCs I've been taking over the last few months.

I'd recommend them to anyone. They seem to sharpen the mind.

PS Coursera MOOC courses are 100% FREE… Now, that's Value! (Sorry, UDEMY…)

        • @IVI:
Yes and that some people are either too stuborn or are not open minded….to a healthy argument.

      • +1

WP are cool and this endless comparison between android and ios is unfair. Microsoft has created a different animal altogether. It does not make Windows phones inferior or superior to the other two.

    • +3

The good thing about windows phone's, it allows you to install apps to the sd card. The fact this thing is only about $200, and still uses an s4 with 6 inch screen and 3400 mah battery, I'm sure it allows some concessions. It performs well against the 1520 in general use, which is cheap also. Even the iPhone 6+ only gets 1 gb of ram, and windows performs better than iOS.

Comparison between 1520 vs 1320 performance

      • Now you made some valid points there, although I am not a pundit here to comment on how os and ram/cpu interaction matters!

        • Here's one more such point for you:

          • the Storage of an iPad Air with only 16 GB can fill up quickly,
. making it IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade it to iOS 8

Known workarounds (ie, other than WIPING the iPad's memory) require
a 2nd computer(!). Apparently, it's impossible to connect a hard drive!

Connected to a 2nd computer (even a Windows box will do(!) Silly Apple!)
running iTune, I'm not sure even then if the upgrade can happen, as
iTunce may not backup your "bulkier" folders & files.

3 visits to Apple Store (while in Adel.) gave no clue on how to do it!
(Now, we we'll meet an Apple tech… "Watch this space")

        • @IVI:

Yeah that's why they charge a hundred or so bucks extra for 16gb extra storage. I have a 64gb iPad, as that is plenty for me and a good compromise. There's cons to using sd cards as well, such as slowing down loading time for games etc. Still I'd rather have the option of being able to use one and save the 100 or so bucks I spent getting more storage. grr

  • +5

Only problem is it doesn't state what model it is:

RM-994 Quad band LTE that is optimised for all carriers in Aus
RM-995 3G + LTE optimised for Telstra amd some Vodafone
    RM-996 900/2100 Optus optised 3G only

    http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_1320-5791.php

    • +1

this is good advice, "Frig" :)

    • +2

      Should be 994

      • If it's 994 does that mean it's 4g TDD LTE with the 2300 signal?

        • I bought mine from Mobileciti. Australian stock.
          LTE 800/1800/2600
          WCDMA 850/900/2100

  • Is this a better buy or the 735 with $100 coles voucher for $323?

    • +1

This is a phablet. If you want the bigger screen (and harder to carry around-ed ness), go for this. If you prefer a more practical sized handset, go for that.

That'd be the overriding aspect against other specs.

      • Thanks!

  • -5

5c for $399 is better deal better value

    • +2

if you are comparing apples with apples…

  • +1

WOW, Very BIG! I went in to see it today, but I didn't buy it.

Good price I think if you are playing games as well on it and using a bluetooth headset.

    • Yeah, this thing is freaking huge. The specifications say it is 86mm wide. That's wider than my portable hard drive! I can't imagine how sore it would be to hang onto it after a 1 hour call.

Owners with giant hands might like this phone. For anyone I definitely recommended you try before you buy.

      • Really? I have a 1520 and it fits in all my jeans, even the skinny jeans.
Finding a place to put it in the car is the hard part lol

  • +2

Great price for a great phone! I paid a lot more than that for my 1320!
    Would recommend 8/8
Posted from my Nokia Lumia 1320

  • How does this stack up to the 1520?

  • +2

My personal experience with the Nokia 1520,amazing hardware camera etc . . however I can't recommend the O/S while it has major flaws such as,
While playing music via headphones or Bluetooth if you browse to a website that has embedded video (adverts etc) the music cuts out and drops out of the volume controls. Forcing you to navigate back to the player to restart the music, this along with the appalling Xbox Music app (seriously an in-house app with many scores of 1 star isn't acceptable)
This along with frankly terrible parallel apps situation e.g Spotify is many revisions behind the ios / driod versions, this is repeated across virtually every app I've tested the past week.
Really wanted a change from Android but personally WP8 hasn't moved on from the WP7 handsets I used 3 years ago.

    • Any music playing simply swipe down from the top of screen gets music controls - press play an you're away. Pandora is my streaming choice - WP/ANDroid/iOS so spotify doesn't get a look in on my devices. IMHO it's moved on considerably. I didn't buy the phone - work supplied, but it's replaced a iPhone 5 from a NEXUS 4. Still use my NEXUS 7 though. iOS is the one that doesn't cut it for me. each to their own.

  • +2

p.s anybody want to buy my 1520;)

    • did anyone mention poor resale?

  • -3

Also IE is a terrible browser, doesnt even have a back button…. Which is so, so, so sad

Only thing this and the 1520 have going for them is the gigantic screen which is great for watching movies, youtube, etc Brilliant screen, long battery life, I personally love the live tiles. But its the little things that makes this phone 'not there' yet.

The updates are also taking so bloody long to officially release unless you get the dev preview…

    • +1

Wha..?? You use the physical (or on screen) back button to the left of the windows key.

      • I understand it has a physical back button, I mean its only staring at you the moment you hold it.
The back button isn't reliable and thats my problem with it, the number of times I click it to go back and it crashes completely and loses everything I've been doing and says recovery tab with nothing there… Or swipe right to go forward, half the time it forgets what was forward and doesnt do anything.

Especially if you are in incognito mode, very prone to crashing the tabs.

Basic music apps - cant even make a proper playlist unless you use elshitty xbox Music and even then its so much of a hassle or do it on the desktop/laptop. Again its the little things that WP fails at.

And yes the app store is the biggest fail of them all, very lacking.

When I first got the 1520 coming from the overpriced Iphones I thought it was the next best thing to come along since slice bread, after half a year its now a nuisance. Android is the way to go. Each to their own I guess

    • +1

ummm, it does have a back button…its on the bottom left hand corner, or you just swipe to the right to go back.

    • -1

Use something like UC browser if you must have a back button in the browser. Seems silly having a back browser button just above the physical/onscreen back button though.

The main criticism of wp I have is the app store, yeah its lacking and a lot of the apps that are available aren't as good as their iOS/Android counterpart. The core Google apps are missing obviously, but usually you can find a good alternative. The only google app I wish was available is Hangouts.

I am glad that like the play store you can use telstra prepaid credit to purchase apps.

      • -1

Sorry I'm quite dumb on this app purchase using Telstra credit…… Could you pla just elaborate a little bit more on this?

        • +2

You select purchase and pay via Telstra.. http://i.imgur.com/qYkkCf9.jpg

If you buy the sim packs you can usually get $30 Telstra credit for $15, or in a recent deal for $8. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170809

So yeah if you are like me, you get that deal, have a months worth of calls, txt, data and $30 to spend on apps.

        • +2

          @Ronnnie: Thx Ronnnie.
To whoever negged me and Ronnnie for having a genuine discussion… grow up!

  • +1

Quite impressed by the value of this. Currently running a one year old 820 4.3 inch WP8.

Have to say I don't use too many apps other than IE, MoliPlayer Pro, Pandora from time to time, and maps. My wife's Android and my 2 IPads fill in the other apps that I need.

For those who want to venture into WP ecosystem, the organisation of the system takes a bit of getting used to but with all changes, once you are accustomed and spent an afternoon playing around with the features, you get just as fast.

WP 8.1 is amazing with positive changes from 8.0. The keyboard is now SWYPE like, and the ability to put all your new apps onto SD card means the 8GB basic space is irrelevant as a 64GB SD card will take care of any space issues

My only concern is whether it is too big for the hands as others noted (have not been to the store to check it out) and the slightly inferior camera spec compared to even the 820's 8MP camera.

Would love to watch movies on the bigger screen and the much bigger battery.

    Cheers.

  • I use iphone and had 2 androids before that while my wife has htc windows phone running w8. I am starting to like the windows interface and my next phone will likely be windows phone.

  • Can I ask if any one has this phone - does it come with Here Drive Plus (which is on my Nokia 820) or according to review on GSMArena only Here Drive, which is restricted to one country only?

    Cheers.

Edit - NVM - it looks like just the plain Here Drive as per http://here.com/help/wp8/drive/coverage

  • +4

Managed to get it with $25 off coupon.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170801

    Comes down to $200.95 delivered

  • If I hadn't bought a Lumia 830 last week I'd be all over this. Windows Phone 8 is just brilliant.

  • (IF) It wasnt for the even cheaper NOKIA 530 @40 i would say hell yeah! But 4" is way more managable in your life than 6" & $40 is 1/5th the price. Just saying…

  • What do people think of the camera? I have the cheap 530 and it's a great little phone for the price but I want to be able to take better photos. I can't afford the top model.

  • I think this deal is now expired unfortunately. No longer listed on their website and I tried to pricematch in-store only to be told the sale price is over.

  • +2

I received my this morning, and this phone is exceeding my expectations. Doubt you could do much better than this for $200.
