270
CBIGXMAS

I can confirm that DSE are using the incorrect image in this listing (I think the image is the DSC-HX50). This item is the DSC-HX60V as I have called a few stores to check. This unit has WI-FI, NFC, Multi-Interface shoe and GPS for geo-tagging the location of your pictures/videos.

This deal is also eligible for a free Sony action camera from Sony (Thanks to c0balt)
Please see here and here

There is a $30 Sony e-coupon inside the box which is valid for use on accessory purchases $31 and over.

Very good deal for a compact with a 30x zoom.

Is this eligible for Sony action cam?
    http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/summerofsony/

    • +1

This is the redirect link to the promotion in detail.
      https://www.smap.ap.sony.com/survey/se.ashx?s=15795BB200EFE2…

It looks like a strong yes! OP should add this information in the title as it's quite a really good deal.

If I didn't already own so many cameras (including a few GoPros, high end compacts, DSLRs, bridge/superzooms and more), then I would jump on this deal for sure.

      • please mail or e-mail a copy of your purchase receipt (Including EFTPOS receipt, unless paid in cash)

How do you do that? Dick doesn't issue eftpos receipts.

        • Umm.. read the sentence again.

A purchase receipt (which you will get no matter what method you pay with) and photo of the serial number will be fine.

        • +1

@c0balt: I have read the sentence. I'm just wondering why they are so particular about the EFTPOS receipt. It's mentioned over and over.

        • @unity1:

Unity's right. To claim, they ask for two receipts.

If DS only issue one and it has both details on it, I imagine that would suffice. But they do want specific EFTPOS details, in addition to the purchase receipt.

        • +1

What exactly is an EFTPOS receipt and how is it different from a normal receipt?

  • what's the picture quality like?

  • Isnt the Sony DSC-HX60V and the Sony DSC-HX60 two different cameras the V has wifi and gps and the 60 dosent ?

    • Normally I would say yes, But I am not sure they make a HX60 (without the V) like many other Sony products. You can see on the listing that they do mention it in the specs as a DSC-HX60V, just not in the title. Their mistake!

  • Cannot decide if I should buy this or Sony Alpha A5000 :/

    • +2

Quite different cameras. This is a compact while the A5000 is mirrorless interchangeable lens system.

IF this is the 2 cameras you have narrowed it down to, then A5000 easily! Based on sensor size alone - APS-C sensor vs this 1/2.3" sensor would give you better high ISO performance for low light photos, more control over depth of field, more dynamic range, and in general better quality photos.

I reckon with compact cameras you need a sensor at least 1" (eg. Sony RX100) otherwise you might as well stick to your smartphone.

Here's a comparison of sensor sizes for those that are interested

  • Sorry guys I was out all day and was unable to update the listing with the deal from c0balt. Nice find mate! Thanks!

  • Bought one for Christmas present. Thanks OP!

  • +3

Just picked one up from local DSE. The box also has $30 Sony Gift Card inside. This deal is just getting better and better. Thanks OP.

    • -1

Mine was sealed and didn't come with one.

Btw the gift cards aren't that great. If you use a card you can't get the free shipping so it's essentially $20. Also everything is RRP on the Sony site, so 99% of the time you'll find it cheaper than $20 if you search static-ice/ebay.

      • -1

If you register and login, shipping is free.

        • -1

When you apply the coupon, you get charged for shipping.

        • If you register and login, shipping is free… I did it 10 times on 10 different orders over the weekend. My coupon did NOT make any one of those 10 sales charged shipping.

Anyway didn't you say you didn't receive a coupon card in your comment above?

  • I think this one doesn't have GPS as v does

    • +2

Box has DSC-HX60V written on it.

  • thanks bought 1 now to sell my Olympus epm2

  • have a nex-5, form factor aside, how does this measure up?

  • +2

I bit the bullet and bought it wouldn't let me click and collect ,thanks IG88

  • Thanks, picked one up. I had the HX50V before this but the build quality is lesser with this new model. Has a severe rattle inside. Anyone else have a rattle?

  • +1

What's the difference between a 50v and 60 apart from rattle?

  • Just called Sony to confirm that this would form an 'eligible purchase' under the T&C of their Summer Of Sony promotion and was told 'it most likely would NOT', BUT to confirm I should speak with Dick Smith directly. The Summer Of Sony promotion helpline staff could not/would not say if Dick Smith eBay store was considered an eligible store.

My main concern are the following parts of the T&C -

"..from a participating Sony Australia authorised dealer during the Purchase Period and the purchase must not have been made under any other offer provided by a participating Sony Australia authorised dealer."

    and

"..purchases through an online auction site or other online resellers not authorised by the Promoter will not be considered Eligible Purchases."

A great deal on the camera itself for sure, BUT I wouldn't count on receiving the Summer Of Sony BONUS as well….

  • I also called Sony "customer service" on the number provided on the redemption page. First I was put through to "promotions" who said they weren't handling this "promotion", back to customer service. Then customer service said just send the receipt, when asked about the requirement for an EFTPOS receipt. My view is if Dick Smith is an authorised dealer (this would seem to be the case) the redemption will be valid as Dick Smith Electronics Pty Limited trades under the same ABN in all locations (online, physical, eBay). My ready for collection email was sent directly from Dick's too. These points, however, may have to be argued.

  • +2

Dick Smith is Dick Smith, nothing else should matter. These were not purchased off a private seller on an auction site but an authorized seller of Sony products. I can't see how the above concerns should be concerns and I don't think calling Sony is a good idea. Just follow the T & C as I'm sure Sony won't like the huge discount we purchased the camera's at if everyone calls them up and tells them. As far as I can see, we have met their T&C.

    • Did a click and collect.. No mention of eBay on the receipt.. Attached my bank statement as they require an EFT receipt. No reason for the claim to be rejected.

      • I think I made the mistake of sending them the print of PayPal transaction which shows $349 and CBIGXMAS promotion credit. Although, Dick Smith receipt shows $279.20. Now I will just have to wait and see if I get the Action Cam or not.

        • What difference does it make what price we paid its Dick who makes less money not Sony. And Dick eBay is still Dick smith no reason for them to not send free cam.

      • Got my confirmation email from Sony. Cam will be posted in the next 2 weeks :)

    • Got my confirmation today also..
Just emailed them the Dick Smith receipt and a copy of the Paypal payment. Seems to be fine.

  • Yep same here, I emailed them a picture of the serial number off the box, paypal receipt and dick smith receipt. No worries (10-14 days and I'll have the cam)

  • Hey guys how's the camera how is the photo quality.

    • +1

I'm a happy camper. The NFC makes remote shooting a breeze. Great zoom, everything good including the bonus camera! Thanks again c0balt.

  • Missed this. Good deal.

  • +3

WOOHOO! My action cam just arrived via Toll .

    • Mine with dhl

      • Now you can return the hx60v camera and enjoy the free action cam.

  • Im still Waiting on Email

  • I haven't picked my camera up yet i bought it while overseas on click and collect i will get it tomorrow.

IMO two good options to use your $30 voucher are:
1: USB Portable Charger $9.99 after voucher with free shipping (if you've registered)
    http://www.sony.com.au/product/cp-v3a
    &
2: Case for our new camera $29.99 after voucher with free shipping (if you've registered) http://www.sony.com.au/product/lcj-hn

Both are classed as accessories and voucher works for either one.

Can everyone confirm they received a $30 Sony accessory voucher in the box?

Tip: Don't use your voucher at a Sony store, because they will take it off you. The voucher can be used multiple times, looks like around 10 if you use it online.

Also don't forget 2.4% cashback from www.cashrewards.com.au while shopping at Sony.com.au

    • The charger is overpriced though i bought 3 of the 2800mah on sale a few months back for $10 each in dick smith.

      • So did I. That was not however an over priced item though, it was a Dick Smith fail. Using the voucher brings it to $9.99 which is not a one day price error but a discount from the RRP of $39.99. DSE sell those now for $39.99

        http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mobile-phone-accessories/sony-po…

As DSE sold out of all the black ones quick, I managed to purchase a few using this discount now, separate transactions for each sale with free shipping.

        • +1

The case looks nice but i might buy one in dick smith to put me over the $300 mark to claim trs.

Found a cheap synthetic leather case on ebay but not sure what they mean by this…….Note: there would be minor color deviation when taking photos.

          http://www.ebay.com/itm/leather-case-bag-cover-strap-for-Son…

        • @paulaus: I think they're just pointing out that the color a camera sees may differ than your own eyes.

  • Yes I got $30 in box , How long did it take to get email for confirmation of action cam ?

    • 2-3 days, wasn't straight away.

  • Finding it hard to connect to my asus vivo tab with NFC.

  • Spare battery only US $11.99 here delivered.

Just received my email thanks Ig88 for the ozbargin

  • Just received my email

  • Hi just wondering when i take a shot in single shot mode and push the button it makes several fast clicks but only takes one pic, does everyone elses do this thanks.

    • The simplest advice would be to reset all setting (Last menu option).

      • Reset all its still the same so does your camera do that. When i push the button down it makes a ch ch ch ch fast sound not just 1 click for taking the shot.Only in Superior auto mode.

        • I'll grab it now and try. Also have you updated the firmware to version 2.1? (I think it was) BRB

        • Yes Paul, mine does the same. I'm guessing it's just like you said, a Superior Auto thing. Probably takes a few shots and keeps the one it thinks is the best (at a guess) I'm sure you'll be able to find it in the manual.

        • @IG88:

Yes i upgraded firmware… Also i have an asus VivoTab TF810C running windows 8 with NFC. But i cant seem to connect camera to it using NFC only wifi and its slow to connect on wifi. Any idea if i can connect using NFC .

        • @paulaus: All my gear is Sony so my phone and camera sync straight away through NFC. Might be a security issue or something through Asus???

        • @paulaus:

I tend to agree with IG88, I had a lot of issues connecting Samsung phones to the Sony cameras using NFC, until I discovered an obscure menu setting that needed to be unticked…

  • Great!!! Because of this post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173754) now our coupon codes are single use only, still free shipping though.

    • -1

Maybe if you hadn't suggested using it multiple times online (as per your "tip" and other post above) then people wouldn't have followed your advice and made a post out of it :p

      • -1

The codes were multiple use, they said so on the cards (for purchases of Sony accessories). We were genuine buyers of genuine Sony goods. What's your point? LOL

        • -1

The codes were multiple use, they said so on the cards

I am genuinely curious to see where it says they were for multiple purchases - can you post a picture showing this?

All of the cards I have seen do NOT mention multiple purchases…

BTW, I really thought my point was obvious, I was amused at the fact that you are complaining someone took your advice and made a post out of it ;-)

        • +1

Well I purchased a few accessories (10+) last night using my own e-coupon. I just tried it again and it still works.

        • -1

          @dasher22:

I didn't say it wouldn't work, just that I haven't seen any cards which specifically said they were for multiple use, as per IG88's claim…

Edit : Rather than neg me can someone (eg IG88 who made the claim) actually show me where the cards say they are multiple use ?

        • -1

It say's it on the card, stop being a troll.

Got my action cam today :) UoooHoooo !!! (its worth $278)
And used the $30 coupon eight times in the Sony store.
So all in all , pain $279 for the camera , got $240 worth of savings in the Sony store and a $278 action cam.. Best value ever….

  • At last i got an email today saying they had received my details and my cam will be sent within 2 weeks.

  • Yaaaah finally got my action cam arrive…..

  • Paid 279 bought case for 23….sold action cam for 160 got back 30 trs so camera cost me 89 great deal.

    • Don't forget to use the $30 ecoupon (multiple times). By the time you have done that the effective cost of the camera would be NIL. Really defeats me how such a good deal only managed 27 votes. Firstly, the camera was ~ $150 less than RRP. Secondly, you received a bonus action cam valued at $269 absolutely free. And thirdly, you received a $30 ecoupon that you could use multiple times. Potential saving in the $100's.
