$10 off $30 Spend at Woolworths (How to Guide)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Sign up for Woolworths Everyday Rewards, use a valid email address that you read on a regular basis.
Get your card (probably best to use it once).

Now don't use your card again, for anything.
Once every few months Woolworths will send you an email, suggesting you have been missed and offer a $10 off a $30 spend.

Obtain your reward, don't use the card again and another $10 off $30 spend will be sent a few months later.

After signing up for the $50 wine voucher thing (posted on Ozbargain about a year ago), Woolies have sent me at least 3 or 4 $10 off $30 spend emails simply because I don't use the Everyday Reward card for anything else.

  • I only use it when I need it to claim a shelf discount. Other than that, it stays in the wallet

Good idea. However, if you want the Woolworth fuel voucher, you would need to scan your Everyday Rewards card as the voucher is attached to the account, not on a print out like Coles.

I mostly shop at Coles and I got into the habit of scanning the FlyBuys card, forgetting that the points are mostly worthless. I occasionally I received the spend $30 or $50 and get $10 back. One time, it was spend $30 every week for four weeks and get $50 voucher.

    • +1

It's printed on the receipt if you don't scan the card :)

    • If you choose not to present the card, the fuel voucher will not be electronically stored, but will appear at the bottom of your docket as a tear off piece. The problem with this method is you will still lose out on any Qantas Freq flyer points which get scanned in only if you showed the orange rewards card. $30 = 1 QFF point, so say your bill was $90, you miss out on 3 QFF points just because you don't let them scan in the rewards card.

      • The idea of the strategy above is to never use the card, except for the "we miss you" offers where you are unlikely to spend over $30. You won't have to worry about missing out on points or chasing paper fuel vouchers with this particular account.

If you want the fuel vouchers and the points you have a second account which does get used most of the time, except when you're using the "we miss you" card.

        • I get it. Must apply for 2nd standby card now. Very clever.

  • Coles Car insurance = 2 for 1 points at Coles shopping.
    Every 2000 points = $10 off

Thanks Wolfy - I'll sign up for 3 or 4 EDR cards and follow your tip.
I've got plenty of spare email addresses, but do you 'spose same one for all will work ?

    • Fly buyer points are a rip. Generally you have to spend $2000 for just a $10 voucher. In ur example, it's down to $1000. Hardly appealing given the bonus.

I don't bother with Coles fly buyers. Woolies edr is much more giving.

      • 2000 points includes bonus points etc that all add up without trying.
I blindly activate all the "deals" via email - but dont change my spending habits…. and then BAM - would you like $10 off Sir ? Not much work for $10.

        • Well if u buy big w gift cards, get 7.5% off everything you spend. You are guaranteed $10 savings after you spend $133.33.

Now I know you are saying you don't have to do much for your saving, but you have done zero analysis on ur spending. I'd conservatively guess you would still be spending around 700-800$ to get your ten bucks voucher, but it's only a guess, coz you have no hard data on your spending and points accumulation. But I'm sure you won't hit the low of $133.33.

      • We have house insure, car insurance x3, health insurance etc etc The health insurance was like 2 people signed up for 4 months and they give you 60,000 points i cancelled and still got the points.

      • cloudy, you don't have to spend $2000 to get a $10 voucher. From time to time I only spend $50 in one transaction and end up with 2000 bonus points from various deals or a $10 voucher to spend on my next shopping trip. If you operate you flybuys account carefully you can end up with lots of rewards.

  • I didn't use my card for over 12 months as I was living in Tasmania where it doesn't work. Never got a single email like this.

    • +1

that's because there is no internet in tassie.

  • Got another one of these this week:

"We'd love to see you at Woolworths again soon. And because we want our Members to get the most out of their everyday shop, we're treating you to a $10 instant saving when you spend $30 in one shop at Woolworths."

    • Yipee, waiting for mine. I use it to shop for that day and get $10 off. After that I use my normal other one, and wait until Woolies misses me again, and sends me another email. Since you show that rewards card in order to get the $10 off, the petrol voucher will be stored in that card. So remember to show that card to use the 4cts off fuel before you put the card away for a long time.

      • If you only get $30 worth of groceries your final transaction total will be just over $20 and you won't get a fuel voucher. The $10 off is a discount, not a payment method.

Some of our family members got Everyday Rewards coupon books recently so other cards didn't get used for over 6 weeks. Last week we received a $10 off we miss you offer on one of the cards. I'm hoping for more offers soon.

        • Oh yes, I understand. I used this offer and I spent enough to get the petrol voucher on the card after getting $10 off. So for a once off, I just used that Rewards Card at Caltex just to utilise the petrol voucher. The problem is getting more petrol vouchers than we can use and they expire. I've lost some this way. We all drive teeny economical cars that don't guzzle petrol but we guzzle food from Woolies and Coles so our vouchers accumulate.

  • Just got another $10 off $30 email because they miss me, time to go shopping at Woolies again this weekend. :)

  • With 6 rarely used EDR cards in the family, there are currently 3 different offers:
    Spend $30 for instant $10 off (3)
    Spend $30 buy $30 mobile starter for $1 (2)
    Spend 4x$50 for 1 x $100 shop (1)
    No deals stack :-(

Received plenty of the $10 off $30 or $50 over the years.

    Today's EDR in store offers…
spend $30 in store by 1/10, scan EDR card & buy $30 Woolworths mobile starter for $1.
1.5GB data plus a bonus 1GB † data when you activate before 1 October 2015, plus $650 call value, unlimited standard national SMS and unlimited calls between Woolworths users.
†Bonus 1GB data available within 48 hours of activating your Starter Pack.

Received offer on 2 cards so far. Targeted, otherwise would post as deal :-(

One of my current offers in its final week of use is spend $200 (4 weeks x $50) for $100 credit in 1 shop.

Since local Woolies is competing with new Coles, there is also a $5 off $50 in store promotion for 3 of those weeks, meaning $55 shops those weeks. (Plus extra discounted specials like $5/kg chicken breast at that store.)

With that 1 offer, total discount or credit over 4 weeks spending $50/wk = $115:-)

    • You must have refrigerators and freezers in every room of your house to buy and stock so much food.

      • Unfortunately I can't take up every offer, choosing only the best ones. But storage has been an issue at times when deals get too good.

(Now have to eat my way through the food before $249 return flight to Japan.)

Of course paying with 7.5% discount Woolies cards ;-)

Woolies deli manager is used to me, and asks what I want free this week. (Deli scales price does not update some offers, so I get them free.)

Got $100RRP Tasmanian Smoked Salmon free a couple of months back :-)

Also get the spend 4x$50, get $50 worth of points Coles offers. I have so many points.

        • Yes, I have the 'spend $30 for instant $10 off' and going to do that in 2 days.
3 others in the family I could apply EDR cards for, but I think I'll let my brain rest a bit. It can get very daunting when all the offers come in and you have to spend them or give up on the offer! I have only 1 spare 'unused' card. I gave up on the Woolworths 4X$50 weekly spend as it was too difficult to track, especially when I usually shop at Coles. I tried it and ended up spending about $80 in 1 shop alone, but it's still counted as only 1 $50 shop. I think they should make it a minimum spend of $200 over a 4 week consecutive period, so that total is cumulative instead of specifying the $50 for every 4 weeks. At the end of the period, customer would still have fulfilled the minimum $ spend and then gets rewarded with a $100 voucher.

        • @momov3:
Yes, my brain hurt preparing next week's shop.

Still these EDR deals are easier to understand than the current eBay Woolies deal. Paying $200 (4x$50) for $300 shop is better than $240 for $300 in 1 shop deal.

But the 'spend $30 for instant $10 off' is really the best, and easiest to use.

Shopping will be 1x$55 (last $50 shop +$5 free on voucher) & 2x$30 (with $10 off each) by Tuesday. Stocking up on cleaning products on special & packaged goods. Will leave 1x$30 (with $10 off) shop for Wednesday, when new catalog comes out.

Once you commit to a weekly $50 shop, it's hard to stop before getting the free offer. Otherwise would have made 3x$30 shops for $60.

I calculate the $50 spend to within cents of the total. Even had a Coles shop come out exactly $50.00! (But I usually have something ready in the trolley in case the total is less than $50. I just hand it over at the checkout if I don't need to buy it.)

The supermarkets select a weekly amount to 'train' us to spend regularly in their stores. As both Woolies & Coles use a 4 week cycle to train us, I'd say there has been research that is optimal time to change shopping habit. The spending pattern is designed for their benefit, not ours.

There's a lot of money spent to find out how to I influence us. I just try to make the most of it ;-)

          Have fun consuming ;-)

        • @Infidel: I would be very cross if I had to visit supermarket (any supermarket!) more than once a week for the 'big' shop. To me it's a requirement of life in order to stock up the larder and feed family, but it is no pleasurable chore and anymore than once a week, I feel I have not planned and utilised my time wisely. Of course, if it is within a shopping mall with all other things fashion and floss, maybe…..

        • +1

          @momov3:
I'm in & out within 5-10 minutes, unless there are the usual free sushi etc.

Free premium sushi… that makes multiple shops easier.

It's a planned attack on the shelves for best value.

Shopping at small quieter centre with parking close to Woolies & new Coles, helps. Also none of those distractions;-) My other choice is a frustratingly massive Westfield with Coles & Woolies at opposite ends, with far too many distractions.

This week is an unusual 2 shop week (today & Wednesday) - only to get best value from expiring offers & 2 weeks of catalog specials. I'll use offers on multiple EDR cards per trip. Then I rest until I use the $100 free shop by end of next month.

I am carer for my currently ill Father, so have to quickly grab groceries with other errands & get back before his carer leaves. So have mastered the quick discount shop.

I don't think anyone wants to spend more time than they need in supermarkets.
          I'd rather be travelling.

    • Spend 4x$50 for 1 x $100 shop

I also got this offer. Spent over $50 this week but there's nothing on the receipt to indicate that I have qualified for the $100 bonus. Usually there would be some kind of congratulation on the receipt.

      • Bugger!

My 4 $50 shops ran out this week.

Each week it stated "Congratulations. You have just qualified for week x in our Reward Yorsekf Offer. Only 3/2/1 week to go to earn your $100… check your email for your offer t&cs."

Found that EDR Card also qualified me for a $30 Woolies mobile pack, for $1.

        • I got that for week 1 and 2 but nothing on the receipt for week 3 and 4.

        • @jackofspade:
          Ouch!
You didn't miss a spend in week 3 or spend twice in week 2 instead? (I have to check in case I do that.) Weeks are Mon-Sun, except first week which included weekend before in my offer.

        • @Infidel:
No. I'll ask them to check whether I qualified or not.

        • @jackofspade:
          Hopefully it's just a glitch.
$100 free shop is not something you want to miss out on, after that work & spending!

          Good luck, jackofspade :-)

        • @Infidel:
Thanks mate. What happen to Bruce? ;)

        • @jackofspade:
          Shhh! Nothing to see here;-)
Good to see your familiar username again.

      • Possibilities…

Card shows as scanned on receipt?
(I've failed to scan to get offer in past, saw service staff before leaving store, was given cash as was simple $10 off ;-)
In your case, a refund could be given, then receipt could be reentered & card swiped for offer.) Complex.

You did activate the offer? (yes)
(I tried to use a $10 off $30 offer on Tuesday. Having failed to activate offers in the past, before shopping, I checked by clicking activate on those 3 offers (shows already activated, or activate if not already activated). I hadn't activated any.

Activating on way to shop did not allow enough time for system to fully activate offer. So when $10 wasn't removed from bill, I showed the email & 'proved' it was activated. As has happened before, I paid $30, but was given $10 cash ;-)
In that case the offer was not redeemed on the card, so could be redeemed again…)

You did activate the offer in time? (yes)
Offers need to be activated by cut off date. No possibilities after that date that I know. I've missed 1 offer in many years, & I still remember it :-(

        Is offer valid yet? (yes)

Total spent (after discounts) is less than minimum? (yes)

Spend minimum in each Mon-Sun week.

Contact EDR & hope they can help.

Wrote this more to remind myself. Hope it may be a reminder for others.

  • Perhaps excluded products were in the transaction, liquor, gift cards, tobacco and related tobacco products??? Does anyone know what "selected services" are included in the "selected services" exclusions?

  • Seems it's time to shop at Woolies again, another $10 off $30 spend.

    • Well done. There haven't been many offers as good as that one since the new rewards program was launched.

I've got a $10 of Woolworths Dollars for a $30 shop coming to me next week as part of a 3 week promotion. The instant discounts are better but I'll take what I can from the new scheme.
