  • Awesome app

    • +1

I like firing it up during stormy weather and load ATC radio in the back ground. Bit of entertainment if the power is out.

      • Where do you live that this happens regularly enough to be a thing?

        • +1

SYD, well at least that on their profile

      • Will it still work if the power is out? Unless you got a power generator.

        • +9

Umm my iPhone / iPad has a battery, not sure why a generator is needed.

      • I do the same in Perth. Quite interesting when boredom kicks in.

    • Hmmm… it seems to be priced "per device" (unlike, eg, TuneIn Radio Pro, etc.).

Be sure you install on your preferred radar-device… (of course, if you change your mind, within (How Long?) you can get a Refund & move it to another device with ease.)

I don't know if the cost of in-app purchases get refunded…? Anyone?

      • How so? Google Play/Android store allows installation on many devices and doesn't care for individual devices.

I have it installed on multiple devices (not purchased at this price but it shouldn't matter).

        • Yep. My bad. Must use/include same/common login acc't.

    • I get way too many "emergency" & "radio failure" alerts, some momentary, as if they're turning a selector-dial thru a number of easy-select codes, while transmitting. Design fault in squawk transmitter?

Or maybe it's a way for pilots to get attention of ATCers for urgent message?

      Dunno.

  • There are a big number of "Black spots" when tracking planes in this app - for example, the plane cannot be tracked after leaving Australian Shores to go into Asia if it is flying through Indonesia.

    • +5

Or from KL to Beijing it seems!

    • Right! But this can be a BONUS for people who live-in such areas, eg, WA (AU):

      • The company may GIVE YOU A FREE RECEIVER + ANTENNA…

Just think you can help "Spy-On" Planes in WA…

Seriously, are there any legal implications to doing so in Oz? :-/

Hopefully the received data is meant to be public, but I'd check, 'cause - in general - the rule is:

      • "If you heard/got it via a non-Broadcast & non-Ham (or -CB) channel, you CAN'T share the info you glean nor can you get any commercial value from it, in any way.

      Nu?

  • Excellent. have been waiting for this app to go on special.

    • Wish I had done the same.. I bought it about half a year ago at half price when my Telstra SIM credit was expiring.

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

Looks like the in-app purchases are discounted too. I recall them being about $4.99/5.99 for them.. probably time to grab them too!

  • +2

Very good app. I used it to track my family when they went overseas. Very accurate except for some areas when you just don't see the plane.

  • +1

Thanks for the post op, bought one through recent HN $8 Telstra $30 starter pack. So in actuality, I'm paying $0.25 only (75% off)

  • Purchased this through my browser, never delivered to my device, go into playstore in my device and it is there under my apps but wants me to buy it?? and yes the $0.99c has been deducted from my balance

Time to email Google I guess lol

    • Try installing the same thing direct from your phone. Since it is on the same account, you should be able to install without needing to buy…

    • +1

I think Google is having a bad day, it gave payment method declined on my google play credit.

      • Same here just now.

    • -1

Tried to buy this on my phone but got a [RPC:S-7:AEC-0] error retrieving from server.

Do you know what that means? Neither do I.

Should I know how to fix it so I can purchase the app? Nope.

Zero confidence in programmers these days. +1 to OP for this app but damn, android developers got to code proper good coding so end users don't have to suffer usability shit.

      • No problem with iOS…not to rub it in.

  • Normal price is $2.99 so not quite 80% off down to $0.99. Maybe the in app purchases…

    • Took it from their FB page…

Just realised it said "up to".

  • Look like fun! Also, This app could be used to track planes that fly over your roof to file a complaint if you think that they should not fly over your head at specific times.

    • +5

I have stuff fly over my head at random times

      • I don't get it either.

  • Anyone tried the "point your phone at the sky" trick mentioned in the OP? Sounds kinda cool…I've a good view of the final approach to rwy01 at YBBN.

    • Just did it then, seems to work. I'm in the inner west under a flight path so I will see how it holds up.

  • Thanx OP, bought a couple of in app purchases too @$2.49ea

    • Which one/s useful- arrival/departure? Thanks.

  • I don't think I've ever read so many BAD reviews of an app before. I thought I'd check it out in the App Store - so read reviews sorted by Newest. There are lots of terrible reviews!

So to the people here who have bought it… Does it work well or not?

    • +1

Works really well - especially the later versions (I've had it for years). Which App Store? The Mac version is well behind and garbage at the moment, but they are apparently updating this soon.

    • Decent app but I like Plane Finder better from a UI perspective. Also the app creator was a complete goose when the Malaysian plane went missing, stating that his app showed it had clearly crashed off Vietnam while seeming to not understand how the ADSB technology actually works.

  • +3

For those that are slightly bored, there's a big storm rolling through Sydney at the moment. You can see the planes all holding out to the south west near Goulburn.

  • Bought it, awesome app!

  • Arrival/ departure is handy for all but , I also bought the plane icon upgrade to make it easier to see what's around. It should be standard

  • How do people get the 5.5% cashback from cash rewards from the itunes store site? You can't actually purchase it through the browser, because you have to 'view in itunes store' application. Is it even possible to get the cash back? I bought it already through itunes, and it's only 6c anyway. But it would be useful to know for future purchases.

    • The site loads a referral link which opens in iTunes. You can then buy something and get the credit - takes a bit to be recognised.

I use the referral link each time I buy something from iTunes - not sure how long it lasts for.

  • Tracking fighter jet? would be awesome if it does

    • Of course not. Plus some aircraft (private or foreign private I think) can request to keep their information private.

  • +1

this is probably the first app i've ever bought. although it's with $10 itunes credit that i got free from somewhere ;)
