OzBargain News Mention Freight Forwarding: The Age

http://www.theage.com.au/small-business/franchising/the-secr…

Perhaps we need a forum for all the news articles mentioning OZB?

This is a freight forwarder I don't think I've heard of.

Is there anywhere that compares all the different freight forwarders to work out which one is the bargain?

  • Perhaps we need a forum for all the news articles mentioning OZB?

Which is why I moved this to Site Discussion. See mentions of OzBargain in News.com.au and The Project.

The article on Fairfax papers was actually published last week (I got an alert on 27 Nov), and the original one actually contains a direct link to this forum post almost 3 years ago. I guess there might be some policy at Fairfax for not linking OzBargain directly as it's not the first time links got unpublished there.

As of Freight Forwarder comparison, I am not sure whether we've done something like that. However, new ones seem to pop up all the time. Moreover, many forwarders have discount / promotions every now and then, which makes comparison harder.

    • If I am allowed to chip in my 2c about Freight Forwarding deals, I think it would be really confusing unless the website splits those domestic deals and international deals.

As far as I've seen from another website I go to, that's not based in Australia, it becomes really messy. 1. There is the currency issues 2. How cheap is actually cheap for you to buy from other places outside of Australia? 3. The deals from US might be more expensive than Australian ones. 4. Freight forwarding companies all apply different prices on the parcel, some charge by size as well as weight, some have dimension limits, etc etc, so the deal might not actually be a deal for some freight forwarding companies.

Unlike the website I've mentioned, I haven't seen deals using freight forwarding that much yet, but if you start involving freight forward, I think it's gonna get messy.

I am fairly new on posting things on OzBargain, so it might be just me, even the Amazon deals that actually support shipping towards Australia was confusing for me. So if you start adding in extra things in, I think it will be harder for newbies like me to join and post deals, which wouldn't be good for this website I enjoy.

So I personally think if freight forwarding and those exclusive deals to certain places were to be posted, I think they should be treated differently have should have their own section.

      That was my 2c. I think I have digressed a lot…

      • Thanks. Overseas deals that require ship forwarding are usually not allowed on OzBargain. For example this Lenovo deal — it got moved to the forum. Please report if you spot one that requires forwarding.

        • My bad, I thought the deal on Ozbargain on the Black Friday, that involved freight forwarding was an acceptable deal that followed/represented a new norm in OzBargain. I didn't realise that it was removed.

  • Nice.

"I sent my customer a photo of my husband shovelling the snow off the driveway and she was so thrilled with the level of service she posted about it on a forum called OzBargain. That was back in February 2012, and we have received so much business from that glowing review and the subsequent others that people have posted on a variety of different sites."

The thread she is talking about.

I ended up using US to Oz as a result of that thread, and have subsequently used them again. They don't charge for consolidation like some others do. Their service is fantastic, and nothing is too much trouble.

The last time I used them I'd ordered from a couple of places, and she had them repackaged and ready to send when I asked about ordering something else and having it added. She ended up holding the original parcel for something like 8 or 10 days and then adding the new items then resealing. Because I was still in the same weight bracket it cost me no more than their 4.5% of my new purchase.

Recent experience tells me if you want to contact them don't do it through Facebook. I ended up emailing her a week or so after I'd messaged through F'book and she informed me that they rarely ever receive notifications from there any more.
