Sony Alpha 3500 Digital E-Mount 20MP Camera with SEL1850 Lens $254.15 @ JB-Hifi

130

New best-price for this camera. I think it won't get any cheaper than that.
This is a mirror-less camera, so not a DSLR.

  • Sigh…and I just bought a camera two days ago (a point and shoot one but around this price).

  • seems cheap, are they bad or somthing, I use a Canon 600D

  • "Traditional DSLR Design" that's a good thing? Would think one of the main reasons to go mirrorless is for the reduced size…

    • Take a look at the GH4!

    • Its still smaller and lighter than any DSLR.

can't exactly put a pancake lens on and put it in your pocket though. but yeah still smaller, cheaper, versatile with other lenses + adapters, etc etc. and built-in EVF is definitely a plus, the only thing I hate about my e-pl3

        • Sony make other mirrorless models that prioritize compact size. Same as Olympus/Panasonic. This isn't one of them. Why are you even trying to compare this when this camera never even marketed itself as being super compact or claimed to fit in your pocket?

  • LCD and EVF are average at best but image quality is excellent from all accounts. Lens is not stabilized. For the sensor alone it seems worth it.

  • Bought this camera at this price 3 weeks ago.
    Does the job

  • Is the RRP a bit of a stretch at $500? Videopro has it for 260 and Teds for 299.

  • its been $299 for a long while in major shops.

suggest to find a3000 if you can, much better than this a3500 even for same price.

What makes the α3000 "much better" than the α3500 ?

      • Specifically the kit lens that came with the A3000 is "much better" as it had OSS (Optical Steady Shot): 18-55mm lens starting at f3.5. However, there are few, if any, A3000 available as it was discontinued in March. When I picked up an A3500 at The Good Guys there was one A3000 showing in stock at Artarmon (not in Sydney anymore so no good to me). Whether Sony will update the A3500 (not sure about the A3000) with firmware for phase detection autofocus for wider lens compatibility remains to be seen.

        • There will never be a firmware update for these 2 cameras.

        • Ok thanks LP400, so the camera itself isn't "much better" for anything you mention, you just prefer the old kit lens…

I was wondering because the α3500 has better battery life, and reportedly better autofocus, but is largely identical to the original α3000…

This is a mirror-less camera, so not a DSLR.

With the quality of displays now (in the internal viewfinder), mirrors are as useful as a motor-drive. Its not like the film days.
No parallax, true depth of field, … It is the sensor size that counts.

  • Wow such a great price.
