  • How do these compare to the hyperX?

    • +1

Apples and Oranges, HyperX is an analogue stereo (3.5mm jack) headset with a single larger driver per ear and works on pc and ps4, Tritton Pro+ uses an Optical cable for Digital Surround Sound and has 4 drivers per ear for true surround sound (not simulated like many other gaming headsets) and works on more devices

Yeah they are completely different, Id check out reviews and decide which one you want best.

But I do have to say the whole surround sound thing is just crap, the speakers are a couple of centimeters away form your ear and trying to stuff up to 4 in the same cup is stupid. Put on any headphones or earphones and watch this with your eyes closed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA

I'd get the Hyper X as I have heard great things about them and I personally stay away from any "Real Surround sound" headsets. for the price these are pretty good as well tho (I just dislike the whole surround sound thing)

      • But I do have to say the whole surround sound thing is just crap

^ Nothing but the truth. Surround sound cans are a waste of money.

The only way your criticism has any credibility is if you've tried this headset and in comparison to X, they turned out to be worse, same, or better in the task of reproducing surround sound. Have you (what was X) and which? Otherwise, …

@AlexF: You don't seem to understand; the entire premise of "Surround Sound" headphones is marketing bullsh*t. Surround sound speakers are an entirely different matter.

          Read this.

The other problem with multi-driver headphones is that if you divide up the price you pay for the product per driver, it usually amounts to less than 20 dollars spent on each driver (amongst all the other components) and for that kind of production cost; you are getting very low quality sound, even worse than just a $99 set of stereo headphones with far more of the production cost spent on the actual drivers.

In this case, you're looking at $10 per driver, given there's 8 in total, and that's a best case estimate as the housing and cabling probably takes a lot more of the unit cost.

        • @Amar89:

          Read this.

Listen (no pun), reading your diatribe isn't convincing.

Many speakers close to each will reduce soundstage, but that's just practical implementation of above consumer product, a more enveloping (ie. around the head) headset with appropriate directionality and spatially distant speaker placement will produce desired result.

It would be interesting to see if there's some directionality in the speaker placement within the above headset although it would be very tight in there. I sincerely doubt there's no additional value in creating it beyond synthesized surround. I guess one has to try and compare. (These days, it's near impossible to succeed with a dud.)

Oh, and by the way, I'm entirely satisfied with synthesized surround I get with my Plantronics 780. No bullsh!t.

      • great link - thanks

I purchased these last time they were $99 from your eBay store back in September, unfortunately it seemed that they had dodgy wiring and sounds was crackly and wasn't coming through properly. I sent 2 messages explaining the issue and asking if an exchange was possible, and I received 0 messages in reply.
    Disappointing.

Did you do a paypal claim? Your backed by their protection guarantee if you purchased via Ebay.

Hi lvlutt, that sounds highly unusual being digital, plus we've never had these at $99 anywhere before, maybe it was another model (720?), either way both models have a 1 year warranty, please PM us your details (ebay username or sale id) or call us on 02 9580 9888 and ask for Daniel, we will be happy to help you out.

      • Have sent PM thanks,

  • Bargain! Great headset.

  • How long will this price last?

  • OP, is "standard delivery" by Australia Post?

    • Yes, standard and express are delivered via Australia Post eParcel Courier (Signature required). If you are not home to accept delivery they will leave a card and you can collect it at your local post office.

  • While not an expert, I have enjoyed the sound of 3d games headsets before.
Yes, it is only a couple of centimetres between the little speakers. As long as there is good clarity, I would worry about that first. Not sure how these compare to the Turtle Beach equivalents.

  • You can get it for 95 cents cheaper from the same guys at eBay.
