  • This banner has been days at COTD website at the bottom. Hmm nothing too special I guess. No free shipping.

    • I think it's a decent deal, given that the best price I could find on StaticIce was about $988

  • Decent deal?

I'm looking for something like this and the 8 hour battery life sounds good.

Do you reckon its worth me forking out $815?

  • +3

i'd get this over a netbook

  • Good deal but i wouldnt get it, 1.4ghz single core processor fails it.

    • thats a 1.4G core2, not an atom. What are you running? Climate change simulations?

    • Gotta agree with Phatass….i had a machien that was i think 1.6 or 1.8. sucked :( You would want at least 2.5ghz dual these days i recken…2ghz is livable. But poor.

      • Don't know what you need to do with your CPU but to let you know, I can game on maximum settings with 1080p resolution with no problem at all on my 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo E6320 with most of the latest games (and this CPU is 3 years old; I got it the first day it came out.). Overclocking it to 2.33GHz just made it run even better, but I didn't need to so I left it at 1.8GHz. You don't need anything higher than a 1.8GHz dual-core for any regular office/internet usage these days.

Acer notebooks are not known for their reliability or quality so I would stay away. That's probably the reason why this notebook hasn't sold out in so many days. Dell has an alternative called 11z I think for $899.

    • Yes, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that the build quality of units from Acer aren't on par with other well known brands. In saying that, I guess people normally post about things online when things go wrong so you never hear from those who never have any issues.

Would be interesting if there were some actual stats on the number of warranty repairs between different brands.

      • I agree. Acer notebooks are average but that being said their netbooks are probably one of the best in the market. Although the main flaw with this is that it will lag running vista with those specs…

What a lot of nonsense! If you guys are gonna spout FUD at least back it up with a link to this "lot of anecdotal evidence"!

I've personally seen dozens of Acer units, I would rate them on par with most manufacturers for reliability, and certainly higher than HP IME! Sure they don't have the pretty exterior design of some, being rather utilitarian in design, (that's why bang for buck they come in way under most big names) but I can assure you, from practical experience, that structurally and electronically they're VERY reliable!

The most likely reason this model isn't moving is it's position in the market, between a net & notebook! I wouldn't buy it simply because I can get one of their slightly higher spec'd AMDx2 or C2D notebook models for roughly the same price, or drop size & spec slightly and go netbook!

    • Some Dell 11z specs:
      Intel® Celeron® 723 (1.2GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache)
3-cell battery - will last only 3 hours! (Can upgrade to 6-cell for extra $$ (150+) - then will last 6 hours).
Weight 1.385kg (with 3 cell battery)
      $899

      Some Acer 1810T specs:
      Intel® Core™2 Solo processor SU3500 (1.4GHz, 2MB cache, 800MHz FSB)
6-cell battery pack (standard option) - will last 8 hours!!!
Weight 1.35 kg (with 6 cell battery)
      $799

      • The Oz version of the Dell 11z is actually the SU4100
        [Intel Pentium Dual Core SU 4100 (1.3GHz / 800MHz FSB / 2MB)]

        • Not sure you are right. Go to Dell's AU web-site below and CLICK ON TECH SPECS, then you will see the specs I have posted before.
          http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx…

          • @bob19: but if you go to the AU site and actually add it to your cart or customise it you will see its the SU4100. regardless the acer still seems better value by most measures.

      • I'm allergic to the word "Celeron", any specs come with that word get ignored first…

    • Just had a glance on 11z spec, no wireless N and a 3 cell batt… $899 can't beat when COTD had Acer on paypal special $799 + free shipping. Though I had a Dell Desktop and Laptop but fact is still fact.

  • I'm more inrerested in the 14" model (4810t). It's shown on the jbhifi website for $1198 (less 10% and $99 cashback) but when I went to Liverpool store, it was on display for $1678. What the?

    • Comparing 4810t, you might as well check this out Asus ULV50

      http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=0r4ZBZZGVWgBcotW

same design, weigh but 12 hrs batt

Was so tempted with 4810 but end up I take the Asus… for the batt and reliance

      • 6 cell vs 8 cell battery… almost 0.5 kg extra in weight and its 14" compared to 15.6". I'll still prefer the acer.

        • Sorry mine is actually 14" it's UL80V but just couldn't find it in Asus website lol, isn't this funny and much lighter. Things getting crazyy

  • Remember that this has no optical drive. Also Acer Windows 7 upgrade cd will cost $25. It won't play games with its Core 2 Solo and Intel GMA. Despite all this, I bought this a few days earlier when it was $879 with $80 cashback, free shipping.

    • Can get an opt drive for $65 at MSY… so I dont think is a prob

  • -2

This is good for simple document processing but i'd say it'll lag loading up Photoshop. I know its a core 2 solo.. an Atom would be faster anyway.. 1.6ghz

  • +1

Its not a bargain that for sure.

  • +4

I reckon COTD should give ozbargain or provide Moneybackco % for all their sales with the amount of advertising that they get from em. :)

    • +4

Yeah and the bait advertising from their pressure cooker sales.

  • This was a SOS at one point, then it's been up for days. I guess they had more stock than they expected or got less sales than expected.

  • I ordered this. perfect for my lounge and bedtime tv. light, thin, good battery life, 802.11n, good res, can handle HD video - a glorious netbook imo. i don't need to play games or need dual cores, i have 3 other machines for that. I can't find anything that matches this value. although I've had bad experiences with Acer, 2 year warranty should put my mind at ease somewhat.

i'll be selling my Asus EeePC 1002H now, which doesn't handle HD playback. However runs Win7 RC suprisingly well, i expect this 1810T to be just as good.
