    Some good deals there!

Too bad I bought a new headunit last sale a few weeks ago :(

    • +2

Same purchased a Pioneer BT/CD head unit with bonus Armourall car cleaning pack back during the August sales at JB for $113. Even though its now 1 model old and till being sold. Haven't seen it anywhere for less than $200.

  • Ah pity they don't appear to stock the AVH-X8650BT :(

    • call you local sound store m8, bigger selection there

  • Thanks, been waiting for a BT headunit to go on sale again.

Not quite as good as the last sale but much better pricing than others around!

EDIT: One of those links is bad:
    MEXN5050BT: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/sony/sony-mexn5050bt…

    • Thanks m8

    • That SKU is the one with the Free Hoover Vacuum.

      MEXN5050BTF

BTX comes with Bonus Bluray player (at extra cost)

Whoa! They've got the Pioneer AVH-X3600DAB for only $298.80: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/in-car-entertainment…

I bought two of these earlier in the year for about $50 more than this and LOVE them. The DAB+ Digital Tuner works really nicely in Brisbane even just with the supplied stick-on antenna on the windscreen and manages to continue working perfectly approx. 20-30km up or down the highway but any further than that you'd need to buy a proper external digital antenna. Standard FM tuner is a nice backup though ;) Plays lots of types of media and has crazy options for ins and outs on the back including reversing cameras, extra screens for the back seaters plus numerous video inputs. With a $100 MirrorLink adaptor you can even get it to display and operate your mobile phone but be aware that only a few phones & OS versions are supported. The Bluetooth connectes & works really nicely too and switching between different phones is very simple which was a big relief after struggling with the way the Bluetooth worked with out OEM head units.

Fitted these to a Toyota and Suzuki without many/any dramas using Adaptor cables, Fascia Kits & Steering Wheel Control kits bought on eBay from various OS sources and all this will set you back an extra $50-$100 per install depending on the car. It's fiddly work due to the sheer quantity of cables and especially the need to feed the cable up the pillars to fit the stick-on antenna but definitely not rocket science so if you can use a screwdriver you should be fine to DIY this. Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours for a basic install if you take your time.

    Very highly recommended!

      Thanks for the info :)

    • Would've bought this since it has DAB, but I already have a 755BT from the previous sale. One thing still missing is the FLAC support. Guess need another year or two, it's just starting to appear on the newer models.

    • Thanks Steve, couple of questions, is it capacitive touch or pressure? It looks like there are no physical controls at all, Is it able to connect to a GPS besides using mirrorlink with your phone? Does it have front aux or USB? Cheers

      • Hi Jackson. Good question. I think it's 'resistive' as it isn't as crazy sensitive as a modern smart phone/tablet screen however I'm pretty sure that's intentional as super sensitive screens in a car scenario can be troublesome ie. accidental selections when mashing the screen while concentrating on the road. In saying that, if it is resistive it's very very good and is far better than those crappy screens on those old cheapie Android tablets.

The unit has physical buttons on the left side of the screen for those critical operations however I mainly use the Steering Wheel controls so never need to use them and in fact rarely use the touchscreen anyway as I mainly listen to DAB+ or off my phone via Bluetooth.

It can connect to many things via many ways so you'd be best to check out the manuals: http://docs.pioneer.eu/Manuals/AVH_X3600DAB_AVH_X3600DAB_Ins…

I doesn't have any ports on the front which could be an issue for some however AUX and USB is easily extendable from the ports on the rear and either just cabled to to glove box or terminated to sockets mounts in a blanking plate on the dash/console… but to be honest I think this is also intentional too as Pioneer know 'most' people prefer to stream via Bluetooth anyway and keeping these ports off the front panel allows space for buttons.

Each to their own and at the end of the day it's still just another 'disposable' 1st world device but yeah for $300 it's pretty darn good… especially for those like me who really wanted decent DAB+ & Bluetooth with a screen for media playback & reverse camera display. It can do SO much more too but is the cheapest unit around that offers those particular basics I was after.

    • Hows the android support without Mirrorlink? I've heard there is some app you can download to link your gps maps for instance onto the screen. Is that correct?

      $100 adaptor seems a bit steep :)

      • Not too sure sorry. Haven't played around with it as much as others may so you may have to get onto another forum for those nitty-gritty deets.

    • got this yesterday x3600DAB. JB quoted me $200 for install.
For basic single DIN its $80
      $90 double DIN
and then because of all the mods, Bluetooth DAB, DVD player it went up to $200. Went to autobarn, they quoted me $160. Anyone know any place cheaper?

      • What car is it going into and does it already have a Double-DIN unit?

      • Whereabout are u in Melb? I know someone in the west that does a fantastic job in audio install. Not sure if he can do better than $160.

  • humm
wonder the DDX3035BT or AVH-X3600DAB will fit on mazda 3 05

  • Thinking of getting a multimedia unit so I can get a reversing camera installed. In terms of other features - the Kenwood or the Pioneer??

  • Not to take anything away from the deal but check ebay prices before going for this

    • +3

Yes do that because most are cost more on ebay

      • for instance, the AVH-X5650BT on ebay is $514 delivered

        • +4

That's why it's not in my post because it's not the best deal

  • -8

I'm really spoilt for choice from my suppliers, I look at this stuff (especially the double-din display units) and just go into snooze mode

    • Are they wholesalers or do they sell to the public?

      • -3

        They do sell individual units.

I get some absolutely stupid prices though. I don't like on-selling because I ALWAYS get (profanity) lowballers (even though I'm on a pension and the cheapest retailer in Australia) and they all want warrantys… gee… if your paying peanuts for something don't expect a warranty more than 'plug it in and it works'…

Although, in saying that, I do run a pretty reasonable Pioneer headunit myself. Reason being, I needed something good, solid but not flashy enough that it attracts the wrong kind of attention.

        • +5

What's the point of your post? To show off that you have access to suppliers/distributors that no one else has access to?
Are you willing to share? No? Then what's the point of your post?

        • Makes me wonder just how much these big retailers are making off these head-units. Even with these discounts you can find it cheaper on ebay. I've been looking to get one for my car for a very long time and honestly the price you pay does not equate to the technology they offer. ie the first iPhone had better touch screen than what you get now.

Having said that @kronicmacstigator sharing is caring :D

  • Want to get one but don't know how to install it. Any recommendations?

    • Maybe visit the website of the product you want to buy, they might have some install info for you, otherwise try looking the model num up on youtube there might be a video on how to do it :)

    • -2

It's all about the model of car you have, they are all different but much the same. As long as you have the right connectors (I'm not a fan of splicing/soldering in this day and age) it's pretty simple. Any stereo install guide for your car will work.

    • The hard part is cracking open the interior to access the stereo. Look up some instructions on the internet, it should be relatively easy. I mean, some kids at JB Hi-Fi are usually let loose in your car to do the job so you can probably do it, too.

All you then need to do is remove the stereo, purchase the appropriate wiring harness adaptor for your car if required (these are generally available at places like JB, Super Cheap Auto, Autobarn), clip the connectors in and follow everything in reverse.

Of course, if you think you'll stuff it up the folks at JB don't charge that much for an install from what I've heard.

  • +1

Very nice post Trent. Thank you.

  • How much do JB charge to install a stereo? I'd rather someone else do it than trust myself to do it…

  • Hey, anyone here help confirm if these speakers (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/pioneer/pioneer-ts-a…) fit a 2002 Subby outback? I took advantage of the last sale JB hifi had and bought a nice double DIN headunit and sub and amp, but I paid for installation (as I am noob) and have since pretty much blown stock speakers in all 4 doors <giggles> The headunit I bought was like this one (same make, mines might be better as was around $298 but bought for $105) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/pioneer/pioneer-fh-x…

    • Jump on a Subaru forum or find a wreck in a yard, you'll soon find out the size speakers you need. Don't forget the depth.

      • Hmm yeh I'm kinda doing that, seems as tho 6x9's are too big :S

        • If they are oval and less than 6 x 9 they might be 5 x 7 like some fords.

  • Will definitely pick one of these up… Recommendations for a 2004 VW Golf Sport? Also how is JB with installs? Is it worth buying a unit and heading over to somewhere like Autobarn for an install?

    • I had a JB install a stereo into an '87 Telstar a few years back. Hassle free and worked perfectly, and was about $50 from memory, though it was a while ago.

  • Can someone with more knowledge help me out. I've been wanting a BT head unit, for audio streaming and hands free calls. I did some research on these ones:

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/pioneer/pioneer-mxtx…

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/pioneer/pioneer-mvh-…

From what I can tell, they seem very similar and fulfill my needs, but one is $5 more with 2 speakers, and the one without speakers was more expensive to begin with. Any crucial differences I'm missing here?

  • No good 6" on sale :(

    • Check your local, more choice there

      • First local store did not stock any car audio, may have to try another one.

Thanks for the suggestion, will let u know how it goes

        • I think they are special car sound stores separate from normal jbhifi

        • @TRENT86:

Yes you were right, only selected stores are Car Audio now

Sales assistant said that they were expecting 30% off Audio the week leading up to Xmas, stay tuned

        • @motion2082: But this sale is up to 70% off and ends 2mrw so most won't be as cheap as now

  • :(

I've brought the Pioneer MVH-X565BT just a month ago for $160 bucks and I thought it was a bargain!!!!

    • I'm thinking of picking one up. Liking it? Pros and Cons?

      • I love mine! Purchased a few days before I found out it was actually on sale.

Bluetooth is fantastic, wide range of settings, easy install, says its designed to run well with iphones but works great with android, USB/AUX/Bluetooth as playback options, great sound, great illumination.

My old head unit from like a decade ago actually provided solid bass, so I was very hesitant to change. But this one makes it sound so much better with their wide range of options. Didn't know my speakers could actually sound like that.

Only cons I can think about is the fact it is a bit of a manual dig to figure out what you're doing and the menus are a bit complex, especially to get auto-dim etc…

Steal at $94, I have to say.

      • Love it.

        Pros:

For the price its a great bargain.

        Cons:

Bluetooth - I can only get either my iPod or Samsung S4 to connect to the HU. So ended up USB connect my iPod and BT my S4 to the HU for handsfree driving.

Also while the BT connects instantaneously it does take a while for the contacts and dial history to load up.

But other than that GET IT!

  • If you want to buy something guys this sale ends tonight
