  • Cheap, but I'll rather pay an extra 300-400 bucks to get the Samsung/LG/Sony Variants (also on their site under "FULL HD LCD TV"

  • can we buy extra warranty with this one? If we can buy extra, say 4 years, then it is not that bad. You can't expect it to be like Samsung, Sony… But at least it's cheap and it's warranted.

Good point, but if you buy the extra warranty for $200 you're paying $1200 and a new LG Full HD with 3 years warranty is only $1400~ anyway. The BIGW 42" 1080p LCD with 3 yr warranty was a better deal.

You might want to check out what you're buying when it comes to extended "warranty", if it's from the manufacturer, it should be ok; but if it's a third party provider (many are) then it is often little more than an insurance policy of sorts with some providers being markedly better than others, some barely worth the paper they're printed on!

Choice magazine were scathing of these policies, many with exclusions, caveats and clauses to let them out of much of what a reasonable person would expect to be covered for! Here's a link to one article: http://www.consultmagazine.net/storyview.asp?storyid=198081&…

Sorry, I've read a better article on this topic but I'm too noddy to find it ATM, I'm sure a quick trip to googleland will turn something up! ;)

  • Why does Soniq site say
Ultra High Resolution Panel WXGA (1366 x 768)
    then below
    Panel Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels

  • Be wary, the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I have the 42" version, and went perfectly for 6 months, then bang, wont turn on. It has now been back and forward getting repaired for the last 6months. Paid an extra $100 for 4yrs extended warranty, which would be good if they replaced. BUT they like to service again and again.

    • I didn't think JB had any Soniq 42" LCD's in their lineup? Are you sure yours wasn't the 42" plasma?

Your point is still valid though, but just so we're clear on which particular technology we're talking about here! ;)

      • Yes, sorry you are right, mine is the plasma.

  • I bought a Soniq LCD 26 inch with inbuilt DVD player and iPod dock last year as a christmas present for my partner. It worked fine for 2 weeks and then the DVD player just stopped working for no reason. When I brought it back, the guy said it was the 3rd one that was brought back that DAY - and it would have been 12-1pm. I was quite disappointed as I liked the inbuild dvd feature, quite handy as it saves space and one less powerpoint I need to worry about and the ipod dock was ultra nifty too. The worker offered me a significant discount on another TV as an exchange, got a 27inch Hisense and it is working fine but no inbuilt DVD player =( I've got a Palsonic 24inch myself and it works well too, with inbuilt DVD player, and the price range is fairly close to the Soniq ones, but a LOT more reliable. After a year of use, neither have shown any problems =)

  • i was thinking of buying it, but this is my first time buying a lcd tv i not much a pro when it comes to tvs but my friend of mine told me about it and told me to buy it i thought it was good, so just wondering is it a good brand and should i buy it and get extended warranty on it or buy better brand thanks.

  • I have a close friend who works at JB and he didn't seem to think soniq were a great product. However, I was in JB yesterday and noticed this screen, and it really looks amazing, just as good as any other LCD on display.
