I like the concept of wireless portable storage but $224 seems a lot for only 2TB. Hmmmmm

  • I got one for the missus cause she only has a 16GB iPad mini, Got the older version from JBHIFI, they worked awesome over to japan, battery life is good. If multiple users are going to be on it, Get a Battery pack to charge it, I'm sure there are plenty of battery packs on Ozbargain !

    • I don't suppose the device enabled / facilitated your wife to upgrade her 16 GB iPad to iOS 8, by any chance…?

(Our 16 GB iPad Air can't do the upgrade, due to insufficient free storage.)

      • You can always connect to iTunes via cable and update, that way it requires less free space on device. That's if you're keen.

        • Yep. Did it - over 4 hours' phone on-the-phone with Apple'

Got 8.1.2 but lost all my content (none of which cost me anything) AND
"iTunes U" (which got me all those iPad course videos) NO LONGER WORKS!

Everything else works, though, i.e., as far as we've tested it…

PS If you haven't toggled power on your iPad recently, before doing the upgrade, do that first.

        • @IVI:
I've upgraded over the air ages ago with no issues whatsoever (8.1, haven't applied 8.1.2 yet). But I've got 64gb so storage not an issue.

Sorry to hear about your experience, I know it's easy to be wise after event but yeah, backup and transfer purchases is a must before a major iOS update.

  • I got one of these (http://www.megabuy.com.au/verbatim-media-share-wireless-p408…) and it works fine with Flash Drives, Portable HDD's.

Its a lot cheaper you can use any drives you already have lying around, and its not tied to one internal drive so if the drive fails you aren't stuck with a brick.

I have used one with both IOS and Android, works pretty well, has internet passthrough etc, and lasted around 12 hours on a flight to LA last year - running off 64GB flash drive so I imagine much less with a portable HDD. Will stream to multiple devices at once as well.

Megabuy's price is just the cheapest on Static ice, But I am sure you could shop around as their shipping is pretty high and this is a little bit older now so if someone has old stock it may be discounted, pretty sure Dick Smith had them at some point.

    • There was an OzB Deal for a similar product, under another brand, for less…

      • Sandisk Connect (maybe?)
    • Thanks for your reply. Would this work with smart TV's as well?

Do you have to have an internet hard drive installed or can you just connect an existing portable hdd / memory card/ usb etc?

      • Just any old existing USB Flash or HDD via the USB port or and SD card via the card slot (I assume you meant internal drive - this device doesn't support those, just externals) Should be fine with smart TV's - as long as they have WiFi - It essentially sets its own wireless network so anything can attach and connect. Works with NTFS drives as well, so can have files larger than 4GB.

  • I have the 1TB version and it's the best thing for media. The iOS app works well now.

  • I have the 500GB version (Goflex Satellite) and it works well.

    • Half contemplating just buying this rather than buying a 2TB 9.5mm drive and swapping them.

  • 54 Mbps via Wi-Fi

Is that really going to handle 3 "HD" streams?
