Nice deal REP but could you confirm the difference between yours and these please: http://www.parts-express.com/pure-acoustics-supernova-s-surr…? If yours are just an older model or something then yeah $89 is a pretty darn good price but I can't help think that the 'S' model in the link may be a slightly better grade.

Also, are the Black ones available at all at a higher price? If so how much are they? I assume you're just dropping the price of the Cherry variety to get rid of them yeah?

    • +2

      Hi There,

The speakers listed in the link are the same model of speakers we are selling. We only have them in Cherry though. No Black.

      • +1

Oh wow… but could you confirm that they look identical in every way except the colour? Not sure if you've noticed that the Cherry & Black pics on your site are quite different so it would be good to know these are 100% identical to the ones Parts Express are selling… just in the Cherry colour. Bit confusing that's all.

  • Would love to see the centre speaker for this price ;-)

  • Do you have some dimensions Jason?

    • +1

      32cm H x 20cm D x 17cm W

"The SUPERNOVA series was designed to astound audiophiles."

The PRICE, alone, will fail to impress audiophiles :-)

    • Sad but true :) I (unfortunately) class myself as an 'Audiophile' but firstly I hate that term and secondly I actually get far more enjoyment from building up great sounding systems from bargains like these potentially great little Bookshelfs versus throwing thousands & thousands on the elite products (of which I have a few pieces).

      • Yep, building up an entire sound system at bargain prices is the real joy. I finally built up an entire 7.2 system based on rare Sony K series extended definition speakers that people just dumped at low prices because they didn't know what they had. Excellent stuff that looks similar to the Pioneer Andrew Jones series that features quite often on Ozbargain is based on it, but never got the recognition it deserved.

    • and also, these ones are just speakers. Not "studio monitors"… haha.

From the Pure Acoustics site: Supernova S Tech Specs (maybe that should read power input)
    Power Output 140 Watts
    Frequency Response 65 Hz - 20 KHz
    Crossover Frequency 3800Hz
    Sensitivity 89dB
    Impedance 8 Ohm
Driver Compliment 2 way DRAV FIG.
Woofer One 5" midwoofer - driver FPC CON
    Tweeter 1" silk SCOS dome
    Product Dimensions 31x18x19 cm
The Parts Express site quotes them as 4 ohm impedance.

    • You'll also notice that the pic of the Black version from Rio is identical to those in the Parts Express link which is why I'd like clarification because the Cherry version in this deal is quite different. Hmmm.

    • Re ohms, two PDFs from Pure Acoustics' website:

      Product guide states 4 ohms.

Owner's Manual technical specification states 8 nominal, 4 minimum.

  • +1

Extremely small binding posts… From what I can remember they are 4 ohm. They sound pretty good for a cheap pair of speakers, they do feel cheap in construction though. Some pairs have a better quality finish than others. But for $89 delivered not bad.

Pure acoustics has produced very ordinary speakers for years. I know because I have a set of 5.1 home theatre speakers bought off ebay a few years ago. The floor standers, centre and rear speakers were about $300 delivered at that time.
They are cheaply made, very light weight for their size and use cheap components. They do sound okay, not great, but acceptable.

These are not high-end, they are very much entry-level speakers worth about the $89 in this deal.

This is not a bargain, not even close, this is what they should be worth.

    • +2

Are you down voting your own speakers, Pure Acoustics as a brand, or these speakers?

Judging by your comment "They are cheaply made, very light weight for their size and use cheap components. They do sound okay, not great, but acceptable." $89 inc postage seems pretty good!

      • +2

The brand mostly, after buying I found most of their speakers were just re-badged Chinese junk that many other cheap no-name brands also stamped their brand name on.
For $89 they are fine, but this is ozbargain, so I feel I have to neg something when I believe it isn't a bargain.

        • They are supposed to be 17lbs for a pair. That's not very light-weight. I think $89 shipped for a pair is alright, even if they are not top of the range.

        • +2

I agree they are okay, just not a bargain.
I wouldn't buy them unless I was desperately after them.
IMHO, the pioneer speakers that were $119 was a bargain in comparison to these.
You can buy plenty of average-to-good (accusound, jmax, etc.) speakers on ebay delivered for $99.

        • the pioneer andrew jones speakers are probalby a better bet but a little more epxensive

    • +2

Firstly, do you have the same models we are selling?? They make 3 or 4 models/ranges below the rage we sell. If you paid $300 for the whole set is would be very surprised if they were the same models. They are a very light weight??? Just the 2 towers alone weight 36Kgs.

Secondly, unless you have tested the many ranges thy make over the last 6 or 7 years and every year since then what makes you such an expert to say "Pure acoustics has produced very ordinary speakers for years"? Because you bought some random speaker pack off Ebay 3 or 4 years ago and never listened to anything else they produce?

    • +4

You bought a whole floorstanding speaker pack off Ebay for $300 and you were shocked when you found out they were made in China…seriously???

Just because something is made in China does not make it junk. Apple, almost all TV's, pretty much everything we use in daily life comes from China.

      • +3

        Really? Thanks for the education.
I expected them to be Chinese, what I didn't expect was that other companies sold the exact same speakers with different branding on them.
Not that I am really bothered by that, but it does cheapen the brand a bit in my view.

      • Please learn basic comprehension. He never stated everything from China is junk. He said the speakers he bought are Chinese junk, i.e junk made in China.

  • Must be Christmas! Everyone's on edge and going crazy :( Shame though, I was looking forward to buying a pair of these too! Oh well. Nothing to see here. Next deal…

  • Goooozfraaaba!!!!!!

  • I am waiting for some idiot to come and ask…

    "Do these need an amplifier?"

    • +1

      what is amplifier?
