Char-Broil Infra-Red BBQ $293 and Jamie Oliver Pro 4 BBQ $390 @ Masters

20

Been looking for a new BBQ for summer. Been tossing up between infared and convection. 2 I've found to be of good value are at Masters. Leaning towards the Char-broil as i couldnt find any review on the Jamie. Although i do like the red of the Jamie.

So for the second time this weekend… How does this (char broil) compare to the weber q2200? Very keen to buy a bit soon.

Most web reviews read as though they were paid ads.

I have the char broil patio one, no complaints so far. Heats up quickly and cooks well

Don't know anything about the ones mentioned, but I've had my Q300 for 5 years, used 2-3 times per week, and it has never let me down. Weber customer service is excellent - last week I called them to enquire about a replacement burner and grills (the old ones had some rust). They replaced both under warranty, no fuss - after 5 years!!

Some comments from the previous model of the char broil.

    • Depends how you cook. For searing meat with the lid off, you just need nead as many BTUs as you can get.

WeberQ's from my experience rely on lid-down convection cooking.. similar to what happens in your oven (also known as baking). Weber products have excellent build quality too.

  • I looked seriously at the Char-Broil infrared too and was tempted. What I did in the end was get some infrared Grill Grates. I was very skeptical but after reading impartial reviews on aussiebbq.info/forum I bought some from here: http://www.smokekingbbqs.com.au/product-category/bbq-accesso… (no I'm not affiliated)

This effectively turns any BBQ with a grill into infrared grill and I am a convert. These things are amazing. I've cooked the best steaks I have ever done by far on these things! And they are even better when used over charcoal. So my advice is to save a few bucks and get a regular gas BBQ and buy some Grill Grates. You won't regret it.
