Cordina Southern Style Chicken

This was a product I purchased many years ago from #Coles.
9 piece Southern Style 9 piece. This was a really great oven made product & a favourite of mine for 20 years plus. However it disappeared from #Coles, as I assume they did want to pay for shelf space, rebates etc. I have emailed #Cordina in regards to who stocks this item. No response. I have found it in selected Foodworks/IGA . However, in recent times I have found that they consisted of small pieces, & the coating was not that great. This was disappointing. I have found a similar blend.

  • That is marinate a whole chicken, or pieces in milk + a teaspoon of vinegar (or buttermilk), preferably overnight. The following day, just prior to cooking, place a mix of Tandaco seasoning, as well as a tablespoon of paprika & a teaspoon of pepper. Enhance with corn flour, & this will create a great coating. Pour oil over the coated pieces prior to putting in the oven at 180-200 Celsius.Bake for @ 60-90 minutes. Use the dripping in the pan to create a wonderful gravy, similar to the technique that #KFC uses.

Sounds like it had nothing to do with paying for shelf space.

If the company can't be bothered in promoting their own product and the quality has dropped,
that would be the reason it was no longer stocked.
If they don't care, why should Coles.

    • I know an area manager from Coles. He said that the product was de-ranged regrettably due to differences in 'advertising agreement'. The product has regrettably gone downhill, as they try to keep up with the big guys.

quality went down hill cos Coles would have told them they wanted it cheaper and cheaper. in the end they have to make it smaller/less quality. After a while people dont buy then Coles drops it. Its they way coles and woolies works.

      • Perhaps you should have put that in your original post.
        Instead you put

        I assume they…

Or are you making up your story as you go along.

        • No. I have been in Retail for 27 years. ;-)

        • @hbg: Is that why you posted a recipe ? Wanting to be a chef ?

Coles have been coming down on their suppliers, asking for more.example(Eg:-http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/coles-to-pay-1125m-in-fines-and-costs-over-bullying-suppliers/story-fnkgdftz-1227164122835). Woolworths are worse.

    Hi hbg,

If you live in the Sydney area, why don't you visit their direct to public Factory Outlet?

They're located at Magowar Road in Girraween, this is just off Toongabbie road, and close to M4/GWH.

    Street view map.

    Regards

    • Thanks for that. I don't go to Sydney that often.

  • how much was this? Cheaper than KFC 9 pieces for $9.95?

    • I don't think any KFC in our area is offering this at the moment.
