  • Could anyone comment on how this compares to a sonos play 1 .. re sound performance?

  • haven't got Sonos , can't do comparison. But I can assure you that this device worth every dollars you spend.

I compared this at length (spent way too much time in multiple shops) and I actually ended up going for the Denon Envaya (hard to find in shops - as it's fairly new - actually grabbed it in London - but is available here).

The Bose is brilliant for its size, but it is still is a small speaker, whereas the Denon just seemed to have the extra coverage, high and low that the bose was struggling with. - it is arguably bigger though.

I travel a lot, so I was weighing up the size convenience of the Bose vs the better sound of the Denon. For me I couldn't go past the sound.

If size is absolutely key, then the Bose SoundLink mini is amazing and nothing else really touches it, otherwise, if there's a bit of room to move (and possibly pay a little more) then there are a few other possibly better options around.

  • I bought one last month from Myers for $200 with free $20 itunes card.
For its size it sounds good.
But the sound is very poor in general.

It's like listening to 64kbs MP3, there's whole sections of frequencies that have been compressed and omitted and it also adds I kind of metal pipe reverb to sound (tested both with BT and Aux) which makes it sound muffled in a metal pipe.

$100-$200 pc speakers are MUCH, MUCH better.

But if you don't mind $20 headphones and want some portable sound it has plenty of volume and the battery lasts ~5hrs.

Knowing what I know, I wouldn't buy one again… I just don't get why it gets such good reviews.

  • Very good price, but I think this stuff is both overpriced and overestimated.Unbalanced sound and too much bass to my taste. I feel uncomfortable to listen especially in small room. Have a try in the store before you buy. I would suggest TDK A33 or Sony SRS series (X5, X3, X2).

  • The SRS X7 is very good… but expensive over here.
But I share maxdba sentiments… base heavy compressed sound.

I've always had the feeling that BOSE were a bit like Beats for middle-aged men. Not terrible, but overpriced and more of a fashion statement than serious audio gear.

Well can you tell us what isn't overpriced and is in the same type of product as this. This is bargain after all, I would like to know.

Sound blaster roar. Balanced sound, seriously amazing feature list, latest Aptx low latency codecs and currently 150 shipped from the creative Website. It's fantastic value with great sound.

Tdk a35 trek is also great.

The soundlink mini had the advantage of being the only bt speaker with boomy bass when bt speakers at the time were not known to have big sound.

Soundlink mini is imo outdated, over priced and never had great sound quality to begin with.

        • Thanks for reply. TDK A34 Trek (which is $120@ JB) and Sound blaster roar (which is $150) which is better in term of value in this case?

          @newsynthetic:
I have the sb roar and I think it's currently the best bt speaker on the market. Nice balanced sound, decent bass and mostly useful features not found on any other bt speaker on the market. Only draw back is its twice the size of the soundlink mini.

Haven't heard the new denon speaker but it sounds like it's what the soundlink mini strives to be. Big bass without compromising the overall sound quality.

  • Amazing sound in a such compact form. Got one today at Myer Parramatta, enclosed a docking charger. Great for travel. Rechargeable battery claimed 6 hour operating.
