Wusthof Classic 16cm Cooks Knife $100 + $10-$15 postage @ Harvey Norman

130

Fantastic deal here… A great knife for an amazing price! Postage was $10 for postcode 3000 (Melb) and $15 for postcode 6000 (Perth)

I've been keeping an eye on Wusthof knife prices around the world and I was surprised to find the 16cm cooks knife for only $100 for Harvey Norman. Given the state of the Aussie dollar there is no point trying to get these overseas right now.

Compare this price to the usual local retailers (at time of writing)
$131 DJs - http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/16cm-classic…
$118 Peters/Kensington - http://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/Wusthof-Trident-…
$129 Everten - http://www.everten.com.au/wusthof-trident-classic-cooks-knif…

This will fill the gap nicely between my 20cm Wusthof Cooks knife and my 14cm Whustof Utility knife. I hope someone else makes use of this deal like I did :)

Buying individual knife is way too expensive. A set of 8 Classic range is about $400 on sale ($699 RRP).

I have a set of 8 Wusthof Classic and Nirey KE-280 sharpener (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nirey-Electric-Knife-Sharpener-Pr…), They are really great.

I also used the Nirey on some cheap knives and they also worked great. Just the sharpness will not last as long.

Good to see someone who knows their stuff and sharing their knowledge with the rest of us

      Did you mean:

Your Toyota still drives you from A to B, only fools will pay more money to get BMW ?

No argument here is that these knives are high in price.

    • Sure, if you don't mind sharpening your knife every time you use it. There is a joy in using a nice sharp quality knife like this. Each to their own.

I would also recommend waiting for a deal like this or this on a set of Wusthof knives.

I have a 7-piece Classic Set (also featuring this 16cm knife) and they are a joy to use.

    • GP series doesn't compare with classic, and neither of these sets include a 16cm cooks knife.

  • I bought this knife separately to compliment my classic set a few years ago, and it's my favourite Wusthof. I haven't seen a classic set with the 16, most have the 20.

Save up for the 7 knife set (most of which you will rarely use) or buy this now… hmm…. Buy the most used knife first and see if you need the rest. Btw it has not been mentioned (probably because few know) that wusthof knives have a FREE lifetime sharpening service. Post it blunt and it comes back sharp. Woohoo!

Maybe you should post this as a deal?

I've got 4 Wusthof's I'd like re-sharpened and I'm seeing prices around $9-$12 per knife. All the service you posted is going to cost you is the box and bubble wrap - perhaps tracking for piece of mind - and probably a two week turnaround.

Also, I agree with you - some of the sets come with a number of knives that aren't designed for the job you probably use them for. I prefer to pay a little extra to get the knives I know feel good for the job.

My first set was the 3x boxed Wusthof Classics (20cm cooks, 16cm Sandwich/Utility and 9 cm parer) and I also bought a 16cm Santoku.

What I found was that the 20cm cooks is the most used. The 16cm utility is used a fair bit but I feel sometimes like it's too long (and thin) and so I will be looking for a deal on the shorter 14cm or 12cm utility knife. The parer is used, but usually only to cut lemons for drinks.

Unfortunately I'm disappointed with my decision on the Santoku - It usual gets used to cut vegetables but it's a thinner blade not really suited for cutting harder vegetables. I also don't like the sharpish square edge closest to the handle where my fingers are. Thus my main reason to get the 16cm cooks knife.
