pretty good deal, thanks OP! tempted to sell my d3100 i've had for a bout 4 years (Will probably only get like 150$?) and then buy this and sell the kit lens…

    • I think it's not worth to upgrade from 3100 to 3200 since it's only minor upgrade. Better get 7000 or 7100 body.

  • Go for the D5200 instead if you can… I have the D3200 and regret not spending the extra $. The 5200 is much better if you ever want to shoot video. Plus it has some nice extra features. Also, it comes with 2 lenses and you can still sell them both to recoup some of the $.

      cheers for the advice.

i've been looking around for an upgrade for a while but the 3100 seems to be doing the job nicely.
looking to switch to the fuji x100s/t as i'm finding slr's to be too heavy and bulky

      • here is a comparison chart if you would like to look :)
        http://snapsort.com/compare/Fujifilm-FinePix-X100s-vs-Nikon-…

        • I like that two of the pros of the X100s are basically the same thing (small, also thin!).

      • +1

It depends of what you want it for… Personally, I couldn't do without some decent optical zoom so the X100 is out.

        • thats exactly right. i haven't taken my 35mm f1.8 off my camera since i've gotten it so the fixed focal length wont be a major issue for me. The only issue is obviously forking out the dough considering i wont be able to sell my camera for much :P

        • +1

          @Kapinny:

Well, the 35mm f1.8 is worth another $200 at least, no?

        • +1

          @educalifa:

yeah i think so! :) could get 300-400 along with a spare 18-55 kit i have.

        • @Kapinny:
You realise that a 35mm f/1.8 on a D3100 is a different focal length to what you get on the Fuji X100S?

        • @mooboy:

          yes i do realise this

  • The D3200 is a good price, beating out most importers.

The D5200 is a pretty average price, $150 more than importers and with importers you don't have to wait for your cash back to roll in.

You could make a strong argument for just getting the body for $495 from JB and buying a better lens.

EDIT Oops, didn't see the D5200 was the twin lens kit, not just the 18-55mm. So the price is about as good as importers.

  • I have never owned a camera but tempted by this

Does anyone have a rough idea how long the cash back takes? I did an HP one about ten years ago and it took 3-4 months

    • Claims will be paid within 30 days of the Promoter verifying the claim

    • This is what Nikon says:

When will I receive my EFT?
EFT stands for an Electronic Funds Transfer, which simply means that the cash back will be deposited directly into your nominated bank account. Please allow approximately 14 days from receipt and validation of correct documents for your claim to be processed.

    • I got the cashback when I got my D3200, it took about 30 days as well.

    • Pretty sure when I did a Nikon cash back last year it only took 1-2 weeks

I own same D3200 with same lens kit ,bought in July for $394 (Kogan-ebay 20% off) and very happy with its quality photos. $347 is very good price for a decent entry level DSLR with 1080 video.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Used officeworks price beat to bring the D3200 single lens kit down to $376 before cash back

    • Kool man :)

  • Anyone have any information on the Sony? Looking at getting the wife a cheap DSLR (for now).

    • here is specs and info on it
      http://www.sony.com.au/product/ilce-3500j

here are some comparison on it
      http://versus.com/en/sony-a3500-vs-nikon-d3200

    • Does the Sony come with a lens or is it body only?

    • Not sure you are only after the Sony, but there is the Canon EOS 1200D on sale until the 30th December. Its $449 at David Jones with 25% off which makes it only $336.75 plus $100 Cash back from Canon. So final price is just $236.75! (after cash back)

P.S it comes with the lens, not just the body.

  • Is the Sony model a decent DSLR? Basically looking at something cheap and decent and then get a Macro lense like the cheapest one for Sony http://www.sony.com.au/product/sel30m35 for it? I want to get into Macro stuff. Or are there better deals for other cameras at this stage?

  • Sony a6000 with 55-210 lens under $600. Unfortunately doesn't come with the 16-50 lens:
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/cameras-printers-ink/cameras/…

    • Actually it does . I bought one today with both.

      • Yeah it's in 2 links online, 1 with body only and 1 with both lens :)

  • How is d5300.should i spend the extra dollars.
Also is it worth buying the body and also camera experts here can pls guide me to good lenses with d5200/d5300 if i don't take the nikon lenses.

    • The D5300 is not a big enough step like the one between the D3200/D5200… minor improvements really. Getting the body only is a good idea but in order to suggest lenses we'd need to know what kind of shooting you do. The basic lens kit is pretty useful if you're new to the whole thing… but once you get the hang of things you'll want to upgrade them.

      • I will be doing basic shooting though i am a big fan of portraits.
My main purpose is to get good pictures when i am out on holidays and on festive occassions with the family.

My main purpose is to get good pictures when i am out on holidays and on festive occassions with the family.

35mm f1.8 which is a prime lens (no zoom) will give you sharp images for those family shots and at f1.8 be good at low light handheld.

For holidays use if you plan on taking landscapes you probably need something wider than the 35mm. The kit lens will do for now for that purpose.

    • I bought a D5300 kit recently ($629 from DWI w/ 18-55mm kit lens).

It worked out to ~$150 more than the D3200 I'd been considering.

      For me, having:
      - articulated screen
      - Wifi
      - GPS

was well worth the extra $150.

WRT lenses, I still use the 18-55mm a lot of the time, but have added a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 prime, and a Nikkor 55-200mm f4-5.6 for versatility. I'd highly recommend the 50mm prime, it's cheap, it teaches you great habits (framing, considering composition), and it looks amazing for portraiture ;-)

  • I am seeing $468 Before Cashback and $418 after cashback on HN website. Is this deal over?

    • I just went in store to discover this, but as they still had the ticket up, they had to give it to me for the lower price. Interestingly, I could've sworn that on the ticket it said the sale lasts until the 31st of January… Unless it was just referring to the overall half-yearly sale?

It may be worth going in to your local store to see if they still have the ticket up. I went to the Richmond one, so I bet they'll be taking it down there now…

Don't forget to use $30 or $50 cashback for AMEX card holder.

Thanks Lisa651. I will give it a go popping in store this afternoon

    • 14 in stock at City West WA, 16 in stock at Malaga WA.

  • I have bought the Sony a6000 with the twin lens kit for $597 today. It is the cheapest a6000 so far!

    • Yeah it does come with both, there are 2 links

  • my local big w has nikon d3300 with single lense 18-55mm for $549 before cashback so $500 net. is it really good value?! only thing is only red available

    • it's ok but a good price would be around $450 or lower which has been available the past few weeks

  • +1

lucky me, I brought Nikon D3200 for $346 after $50 cash back from Harvey Norman. the store forgot to pull down the expired deal poster and I was able to convince the sales person to give the deal as the poster doesn't say any end date of the deal.

    • Yeah it's meant to end the 4th Jan :)
