Seagate 2TB Portable Harddrive $111.20 JB Hi-Fi

70

I was looking to upgrade my PS4 hard-drive, and this one is the one that kept coming up in all the how-to guides.

This is the cheapest Australian price altomic could find, and if you pricematch at Officeworks (their current price is $129 in store or $149 online), it's $105.64. Happy to upload receipt if anyone needs it.

      shows how useful staticice is…

Yeah, doesn't capture all retailers of computer bits these days.

Dang! Well, boy is my face red.

        It happens.

Officeworks will not price match stores that don't have a local presence. Bing Lee have a small footprint, nationally speaking.

    • +1

But you could price match the $111.20 at JB Hifi though

    • They definitely price match online stores, they just take into account any freight/postage in determining the value.

        And warranty.
I started getting the "warranty waffle" yesterday.

I think they have plenty of loopholes that they can use, and just work out on the fly if they can be bothered honoring or fighting Pricematches.

That said, I have never been refused, just challenged.

        Edit: example loophole
        JB - Model: 2569011
        OW - SGBX2000GB

      • OW generally won't match online stores, unless that store also has a physical presence in their area (ie: Dick Smith). Even then, many OW managers will refuse to do it. If your local store has a generous price match policy, you're lucky, but you're not in the majority.

        • From there website:

          "What about online stores?
Identical products are price matched against online stores but as with any other kind of store, the item must be currently in stock. When price matching online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery. If the identical product can be purchased and delivered via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%."

  • I bought 3tb seagate drives about 2-3 years ago for $113 each from JB-Hifi, which was around the time of the flood in Thailand. I still can't get over how expensive regular HDDs have been since the flood.

There are plenty of other references that back this up. Just Google it.

I didn't know 3tb portable drives were available 3 years ago

    • must have been 3.5" drives…

Cheaper elsewhere. And unless you're desperate, I wouldn't be paying more than $89 for 2TB portables.

    • +2

yeah but how often there'll be 2TB deal for $89?

    • +1

Please do tell us where to get cheaper?

      • +1

Comment above links to cheaper price at JB HiFi. This is clearly not a bargain price for 2TB.

        • The deal is JB HiFi

          @Steptoe:

The OP originally posted a more expensive deal from Bing Lee, and then changed it to JB HiFi.
Is it good practice to post deals for products that are more expensive elsewhere, let others prove me otherwise, and then amend the deal?

        • +3

@BTRaynes: I'm not sure what the guidelines say, but a personal preference would be to post a new deal and maybe have the old one removed. A third of the comments here are now in response to a price and store which isn't listed in the deal. Many still hold true, but it's clearly confusing for those that saw the original listing.

At the very least it'd be worth noting in the deal that it has been updated after the original listing was found to be dearer than elsewhere.

        • @BTRaynes: I amended it with the new information. Some people don't bother to read the comments.

EDIT: actually, no, I didn't do the last edit. I had all the links still in my last version, but forgot to credit altomic, because I'm a monster. That has since been amended by @Steptoe

      • it was that centrecom deal 2 days ago in store only, which if u live in sydney, no luck at all !!!

Officeworks have reduced their price to $111 to avoid any price beat starting mid day yesterday on Tuesday 30 December 2014 as I was browsing through the Officeworks website. It seems that Officeworks now have the cheapest price for Seagate 2TB Expansion Portable Hard Drive.
