Is It Okay for Men to Wear Women's Sunglasses?

I just found out today my sunnies were women's after a quick search on Amazon. There weren't enough signals to tell that they were females sunnies. The front frame was made like aviators, the lenses were too dark from being polarised and the golden temples matched the golden frame colour scheme.

If the style suits you who cares what sex they were made for. Most styles these days are unisex anyway.

  • +29

Im pretty sure its illegal :)

One the other hand, if you can't even tell, other people probably cant either (unless its very floral and obvious)

    • +14

Yes, it says so in the Bible/Torah:

A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.

      http://biblehub.com/deuteronomy/22-5.htm

      • Sunnies are categorize as accessories not clothing. :) I don't think there's Sunnies during the bible time. So that part of Bible needs modern times clarification or update. Jesus you there?

Not only is it illegal and sinful it's also immoral:

Women's sunglasses are clockwise polarised whereas men's are anti-clockwise. This prevents men and women from making eye contact which is forbidden.

The people whole sold the glasses were shady.

  • +1

Don't sweat it for a second. Sunglass Huts best selling Oakley women's sunglass called 'Dart' sells primarily to unaware / unconcerned men.

  • +14

Of course it is Mr Kostanza..

    • +8

Are these ones from the Gloria Vanderbilt collection?
Better women's glasses than ones that pinch the nose.

      • +6

So long as they have a long chain on them so you can wear them playing canasta.

  • +6

Haven't you noticed that women's sunglasses have special optics to make other women look fatter? :)

  • No.

  • +3

No, most definitely not, they're different not just in the feminine style but in the special secret chemical coating in the optics to boost the hormone estrogen.

So yeah, unless you want fat retention around your hips and chest, don't wear them.

  • Of course it's fine. You're in good company.

    • You're in good company.

So is party boy Corey Worthington also part of that good company?

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0IAUwtyquE

His glasses are women's I'm sure, just can't seem to find a source to confirm, but I know that at the time different media outlets confirmed they are ladies glasses…

  • No wonder you ask this question. Look at your username :P

  • +3

Not if they're like Dame Edna Everage's winged tipped ones. LOL.

  • +1

the secret of his success is wearing women's slacks

    • Lol… Was going to type the same… Surprise no one else have picked up on the reference…. :)

  • +9

Well at least they will match your underwear

  • -4

Dont do it! Will slowly turn you queer.

  • +4

Its ok if you wear the matching handbag and shoes

  • Red Foo never seemed to think so.

  • +5

Why does this thread not have a poll?

  • +1

the glasses sizing may be different for the womens though.

  • It depends how u feel about them
A lot of accessories are borderline for some reason and will suit either gender

  • +4

OP reminds me of this Seinfeld bit haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr6zB9mATPc&feature=youtu.be…

I wouldn't worry about it. If you like them and they suit you there's nothing to worry about.

    • The poor dog

Is it ok for men to wear women's underwear?

  • In the wise words of The Hodgetwins; "Do whatever the FCK.. YOU wanna do!"

  • +1

Elton John has no probs with it. Rock on!

  • Don't they say that wearing Suttle female articles of clothing out in public treading the waters when men want to be women? Or dress as women?

don't ask me about this shit i heard it on radio today so it must be true.

  • Men/Boy bands often buy womans jeans cos it is tighter

Woman don't have problems with wearing men's suits, ties…

    • I am 21 and womens jeans fit so much better, my friends feel the same. we always joke about it.
Only annoying thing is the patterns on the back pockets haha

      • +1

        How much do you squat?

      • +1

I accidently tried on a pair chinos, could not get my calf in. Perfect example of men wearing womens clothing gone wrong

Men should NOT have super skinny legs that go on forever.

The whole craze started because womens jeans/pants have a higher crotch so your junk looks huge, then it just went too far.

        • +1

Ahhhh.. That explain why mine looks so tiny.!!!! ;)

        • @wippy:

          your weeny?

          maybe cos it is tiny?

        • I wouldnt say my legs are ridiculous skinny, they're skinny but not freakish!

    • My friend's teenage son and his friends do this. Apparently the only way to get really skinny jeans that are a good fit is to buy women's ones.

  • Sigh. The fragile male ego.

    • +3

Naw, why did this comment get negged? I think you made a good point.

Men (or at least the ones who worry 'is it okay for me to wear women's glasses?') should be way more confident - forget the potential jokes or stereotypes or assumptions people may make, even if you do wear something really out there.

Wear what you like. Wear it proudly. I think it's unfortunate that people doubt themselves (even though I'm guilty of the same) - especially when it comes to such arbitrary things as the 'gender' of clothes or accessories.

I guess saying 'fragile ego' sounds like a criticism.. maybe it should be read as more empowering. Do you want to be fragile, or say "heck yes, I'm human, I wear what I want, screw your rules"

      • +2

        Negged by men obviously haha

Well, fragile is true because men flee from anything that remotely associates them with being girly. It's like they need to establish how manly they are. I read somewhere fhat Coke zero was made because most men wouldn't even dream of drinking Diet coke. The word 'diet' turned them off because it was associated with women.

  • +1

Put your hand down your pants and feel for a set of balls. I'd you find any than wear what the hell you want.

  • -2

Sure it's ok, and why not cruise public toilets looking for sex with other men while you are wearing them.

    • Hahahaha I don't know why you were negged I think we can all recognise this is a joke. And a HILARIOUS one!

  • +1

It starts with sunglasses … a touch of eyeliner … some lacey underwear. Before you know it, you'll be on hormone therapy and visiting a surgeon to get it lopped off.

  • You made Hesus and Manhomad cry.

  • J Edgar Hoover went undercover when director of the FBI, and wore frilly panties and garters. I am pretty sure that sunglasses would be ok.

  • Yes

  • You must feel so feminized. Better go our and spend 200$ on some sunnies marketed toward men

  • +1

Fun fact. Prior to the 19th century kids clothes weren't pink/ blue dichotomized in the west. It happened gradually and wasn't clear cut..

"Ladies' Home Journal article in June 1918 said, "The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.""

"with the development of prenatal testing. Once parents could find out whether they were having a boy or a girl, they could outfit their nursery in the "appropriate" color. Manufacturers pushed the fad too after realizing affluent parents would buy a whole new set of baby products once they found out Junior was expecting a little sister."

    • +1

      That's quite interesting.

      • Yeap, it all about marketing and making money

Why is pink a girls color
        and blue a boys color

it's just bullshit someone made up…

Color in it's nature has no gender, it just is..

  • My FIL bought women's sunnies. Except it wasn't subtle. They had a diamonte heart on one of the lenses. He had thought it was just a sticker. He still wore them a few times.

    • Have also done this with a pair of knock off ray bans, with glitter flowers on the side frames. Would be lying if I said they weren't in the glovebox and used on the occasions I forget my normal pair!

  • The air conditioner!!!

  • My new glasses (not sunnies - actual, I'm-blind-and-need-to-wear-these-all-the-time glasses) are men's frames.

I'm not a man. I'd like to think I look nothing like a man.

Turns out men's frames suit my face shape far more in general than women's frames. Go figure! No wonder all these years I'd been having trouble finding frames that suited me.

So yeah. Who cares. If they suit you, wear them. Better than wearing frames that were designed for your gender but look like shite :P

  • I think it's perfectly ok for you to wear women's sunglasses.

    Has anyone noticed?
