  • What's the terms? Not unlimited books for 2 months is it?

I assume it's download and own right? Not stream and cloud but you never own, just license?

    • +1

I believe you'd get two credits (one for each month) to download an eBook. You never own the book, you're buying the right to a licence. You can stream from the cloud or download it to your smartphone or computer and play through that.

Yeah one credit a month which is generally good for one book. You should retain access to the books once the subscription ends, however the files do have DRM so there's limitations as to what you can do with them.

Me and the misses are big Audible fans. Allows me to get through a few novels while at work, where otherwise I doubt I'd get through any books.

they allow you to make 2 copies if i remembered correctly.

@IsTops: What you can activate on is here: http://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3316/kw/…

Me and the misses have separate accounts, but are both able to activate the audiobooks on each others devices without issue.

        • @Smigit: what i mean is, they allow you to convert it to mp3 twice

        • @IsTops: They don't allow conversion to MP3…although if you wanted I guess you could burn it to a CD and then rip it back. I looked at doing that but it was too much hassle for my Game of Throne books which were a gig plus each (I don't think DVD's were supported) and the DRM'd files play fine on my iPhone and anything else I'd want to use anyway using software I was already using (e.g no 'Audible' apps)

          Regarding MP3's. http://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2848/kw/…

Lack of MP3's almost swayed me from the service, but it's been a minor hinderance so far. Might be an issue down the line one day, but I'll cross that bridge then.

@Smigit: well you're in luck mate. Use the software Audials, along with iTunes and it will both remove the DRM and convert it to mp3.
Don't worry about what they said you can or can't do. You didn't search deep enough.
It links your audible account to itunes during the convert and they have a counter. Max is 2, as i said if i remembered correctly.

i stuffed up some of my converts and used up the counter and i havent found another way to do it but im sure they are other methods out there.

          ps
turn on your accept private messages

        • @IsTops: Cheers. I'll have a look at the software.

        Audio book, not eBook.

        • Sorry, that's what I meant.

The audio books have drm and expire after the trial/membership lapses

      • The audiobooks should remain active and accessible: http://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3765/kw/…

If I cancel my membership, what happens to my previously purchased content?

You will still be able to access all of your previously purchased content, even after you cancel your membership. This is due to the fact that your username and password will remain active, so you can still log in and access your online library either from the Audible.com full site or any of our mobile applications.

You lose any unused credits, which is what you'll be issued to purchase the audiobooks. So you need to make sure you complete any purchases before closing the account.

  • Have to enter in bank details and cancel paymenr after the trial.

    • Yes, cancel after you have claimed your two credit. Usually one month and a bit.

  • New members only. Although I have no active subscription, it doesn't accept the promotion code, because I am already a member.

    • How does is discern that? Surely another E-Mail and different payment account would suffice. Just put a suffix on your street number LOL. That might throw the 'one per household' thing off if it has that.

      • Not sure. I tried changing my Amazon address to a US address but that didn't help either.
Bugger, I like the free audiobook deals :)

        • Hmm. Delete cookies, try from another browser or even computer just to be sure and use a VPN, or another IP perhaps. Damn they're clever if they can detect that.

        • i wonder if this has to do with the fact I cancelled a subscription a couple of days ago.

        • Used VPN and no luck either. I'll give up until another user with membership but no active subscription has successfully redeemed the code.

I canceled another membership a few days ago, reason given in drop down box was 'I don't want to give a reason' on the next screen they offers me a free book from a list of 15 or so which I accepted :) I'll go back next week and cancel it again. It's not unusual for them to offer a free month or discounted membership for x amount if months.

    • Haha love that desperation to hold on to customers or earn a new customer. That's competition. Though I'm not sure audible really has a similar biz competing against them. Amazon bought them anyways.

      • Downpour is one of their competitors I've purchased from them before but never had a subscription with them.

        • Interesting, never heard of Downpour. I like books but not really a downloading type person. I get them from libraries and rip them though ;-p
