130

Great price for a decent little machine. Currently $195 at Appliances Online, HN has 'em for $127 at checkout, then $77 after submitting your claim. I have actually been pretty impressed with both the convenience and quality of coffee from these machines.

Pretty much the same machine as this post

  • this seems pretty interesting, but i have a question about how these machines work. I'm the only one at home who drinks coffee in the morning (half cup coffee, half cup milk). I've heard a pod can make one full cup of coffee, but if I only need 1/2 cup a day, can i keep the pod inserted until the next day or do i have to dispose of it immediately?

My wife often buys a double shot expresso downtown then saves half in the fridge for the next day.

This is for cold coffee drinks, but reheating coffee never an issue for me.

If reheating coffee no issue for you as well, just put what you don't need in the fridge for when you need it.

Negged for giving an option ?

What's wrong with suggesting keeping half the produced expresso of the pod in the fridge ??

        • upvoted you mate
it was probably some butthurt coffee "afficionado" offended at the prospect of storing coffee in the fridge
c'mon guy it's POD coffee for crying out loud lol

Upvoted you - I got negged recently for a coffee comment with no explanation as to why. Like you I gave a sincere opinion and was quite suprised at the negative response by some.

        • any suggestions on how to save money should always be welcomed…this is OzBargain after all… :)

    • Depends on how much your "cup" is; one Nespresso pod is good for around 40mL of coffee (unless it's a Lungo pod which is good for around 110mL, or a ristretto style which is good for 25mL). Then you'd add a similar volume of milk; a coffee from a cafe is typically 250mL+

I don't own a Nespresso but I've used them a fair bit through work. My understanding of the mechanism is that while this may be possible I'd not recommend it for a couple of reasons. Firstly the pod will be sitting wet in the machine between the two uses so I guess mildew may be a concern. Secondly from a flavour perspective I'm pretty sure you'd be "re-using" the beans and you'd get increased bitterness/very poor flavour on the second usage.

      in short, no….
in long, no…because you are likely comparing to instant coffee and not an espresso shot of coffee. Also, you would not want to store 'wet' coffee grounds in the machine and then drink what comes through them 24 hours later

you need to compare them to what you would buy in a coffee shop (how good a coffee shop is up for debate). For a milk based coffee you get a single espresso shot and then milk added (depending on the drink). For a black coffee you get a single espresso shot then water added (or in the reverse order depending on the drink). For stronger drinks extra shots of espresso coffee are added (either via actually an extra shot or via a larger amount of grounds being used for the initial shot)

    • Agree. The milk frother is a must for a lot of people.
