Work started back to day so whilst on the train I was able to finish The Nigger of the Narcissus, and Other Short Stories by Joseph Conrad.

Conrad was a writer in the late 19th and early 20th century. However he was actually a sailor/ship hand prior to that. Most of his stories connect back to a sailing theme.

His works are poignant, striking and powerful.

I've listed, what I believ, to be his 2 best books first.

  • Thank so much altomic. Good to have recommendations from someone who has read his books. I haven't read Conrad, only knowing of Heart of Darkness.

(2 sets of links without book titles directed back to deal. May just be my phone.)

    • Same happened to me so nothing to do with your phone.

Kindles are great when you are reading on the bus and you don't like other people seeing the name of the book you're reading.

Having said that, I'll give "The Neggir Of The Narcissus" a miss for now, thanks.

it's actually a great story. but I understand what you mean.

      • And the second song on Sly and the Family stone says it all. SME are tough on this song?

    Thank you Atomic

  • Heart of darkness is heaps racist. I read it in high school literature class. A sailing theme is one way to phrase it. Colonialism and slavery is another. Keeping that in mind, I enjoyed reading.

One of my favourite authors. He uses very floral language, a lot of purple prose, but once you get past that he can really tell a story.

One of my favourite quotes is a Christmas card he sent someone saying only: "life lasts too long. Merry Xmas".
