Apple MacBook 13" 2.4GHz Aluminium (XC4918) 1598.00 DSE Sydney George Street

20

Went to the Sydney George Street DSE. They have this Macbook for 1598. Model: xc4918. Still 1998 on their website. Is this a good deal? I am looking into buying one.

  • I would say it's quite a good deal. For the same price you can get a refurbished Macbook Pro from Apple, slighlty slower speed, significantly smaller hard drive but increased battery life. Graphics are the same, as is pretty much everything else except for an SD card slot on the Pro. It all depends what features you prefer. Refurbished products from Apple carry a full warranty and almost everyone says they are like brand new, including me.

EDIT : Forgot to mention the cashback from Moneyback for Apple Store purchases. 3% if I remember correctly. Again, both are good deals.

  • Cool, thanks. Do you won a MBP? As far as I understand you cannot get the pros in 13 inch, right? I mean I am planning to carry the thing every day around, 15 inches seems overkill. Thanks again.

    • After the 13" went aluminium, Apple decided to rename it MacBook Pro. So now MBPs come in all 3 sizes. "MacBook" now refers to the low-end plastic model.

But if you're thinking of doing anything graphics-related I would recommend against the 13" Pros. The LCD is of much lower quality I heard.

      • The new 13" MBP have a much better screen than this 13" non Pro. Personally I would get the new 13" MBP from the Apple refurb store for $1599 which also has much better battery life and obviously the better screen as I already mentioned…

    • No, I don't own a MBP, but I do own a 17" PowerBook G4 which does everything I need, which isn't much. The only down side is no Snow Leopard, but it runs Leopard just fine. Plus they are relatively cheap these days, about $700-$800 on eBay.

  • is this the same apple store down in george st that sells refurbished MBP? am looking to get one but i can't afford a brand new one (or more like i don't wanna part with so much money for something that i don't need brand new..
