Panasonic 50" Full HD TV TH-50A430A 50" $648 JB Hi-Fi

550

$51 cheaper than the previous Costco deal from last week
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177897

As per the discussion in the Costco deal a mate of mine who works at JB told me that this model was going on sale today for less than the Costco price.
Props to Unity1 for being up earlier than me this morning and checking the JB HiFi site.

Keep in mind that this is a series 4 so it's an older run out model. Current series is 7 for non-4k TVs.
No 3D either if that matters to you.

Full specs can be found at the JB link under the 'Details' tab.

Panasonic has become more noticed lately

    • +9

Only after ditching their superior plasma technology, they are getting noticed. Shame!

Welcome back jv. Been On holidays?

I think he means that Panasonic plasma was the best plasma. They had a solid reputation.

          @DeWalt:

          Been On holidays?

          Yep, posting from the beach…

          was the best plasma

the new LEDs outperform plasma in. every way.

          +1 due to comedic wit

@jv: the new LEDs outperform plasma in. every way.

          Thanks for the laugh

        • +4

          @jv: lol now that's a joke

      • agreed…
but the fact is led is more practical than plasma.
lighter, lower energy consumption, cheaper etc.
but the quality of picture/color plasma is the winner.
lots of people now days say the samsung tvs are so colorful.hence its good. well, IMO, they are tooooo colorful that hurt my eyes.

        • I think the New Samsung SUHD Models will finally kill Plasma quality- they looked amazing @ CES

        • @TRENT86: havent see'em yet.
but im in love with the OLEDs..love the real BLACK.

        • @mrgeckoz: The New SUHD Are said to offer even deeper blacks and better colour than OLED'S And will start arriving on market around April this Year :)

        • @TRENT86: woo sounds impressive. cant wait to see one in store!

No Pioneer was the best Plasma and I'm still rocking my 508A!

    • Me too… high five!

    • 3x 506As and 1x 505A over here, still all going strong and wouldn't trade them for anything (except 508+!)

    • same :)

I'm still a die-hard Panasonic and plasma fan (I still plan to source a 60" ST or VT someday but the heyday is over. The tech was invented in 1964…

Don't forget everyone that in the early days it was

    1. Fujitsu
    2. Pioneer
    3. Panasonic

    Fujitsu tapped out first.
    Then Pioneer
    Then Panasonic

Having said that, I personally have never liked Panasonic's offerings in the LCD/LED space and that's coming from a big-time Panasonic purist.
Always been disappointed with how they look and a bit amazed at how, IMHO, Sony and Panasonic have let Samsung beat them on picture quality over the years.

Horses for courses. Buy what works for you and has the features you want.
For me…I'm going to see if I can hold out until 4k becomes the standard.

Would be better if it was the $50 off the 60". The 50" wasn't really a deal in the Costco listing just the 60". Prefer TGG deals for a 48" Sony TV LED LCD for just $498.

Lets conveniently forget that there was very limited stock of the Sony 48", there were stories of people lining up in the morning.

Seems like a good excuse for the lazy OzBargainer to spend more money on an inferior product with a gain of 2 inches. Gotta know when hold em , when to fold em. Panasonic LED tvs are traditionally outperformed by Sonys with plasmas vice versa. Have to see em in store to make a final judgment.

        • I'm not sure where I mentioned the Panasonic 50 being a better TV. The Sony is probably better but what I am saying is the Sony at $498 was difficult to acquire because of limited stock.

        • I had a look at the Sony led and the Panasonic led and I actually preferred the Panasonic. Now 2 of my rellies are also sporting the same screen cos they saw mine.

        • @undertaker149: Sony was able to be placed on back order so stock wasn't really an issue if you were willing to wait…

    • correct

wow 2 HDMI ports talk about stindgy

  • Around Boxing day, the Sony 50W700B for $699 from David Jones and Dick Smith was a better deal IMHO.
The Sony supports Freeview plus, has 4 HDMI in, and is not region locked. Once you change your router DNS, you get USA apps like Netflix etc
