  • How about from Sydney.
    .

  • Thanks OP :)

OP mentions Bali too. Is $200 from Brisbane one-way actually that good of a deal?

    • To be honest it was the flights to USA that really caught my eye. Other destinations may be variable in savings.

It's actually an honest question. I'm not sure what a good deal to Bali would be but will soon be in the market thus my interest. Thanks for sharing.

Jetstar had $88 sale from Sydney to Bali one way and $38 from Bali back to Sydney few months ago. They also had $99 tickets previously.

The prices sound good but the AUD-US exchange rate is putting a dampener on things :(

    • agree pretty sad isn't it.. got used to 90's which was great obviously 1 for 1 was way more awesome!

the way i see it unfortunately is that currently lets say its 80 cents by the time you exchange money if you get cash it'll prob be 77 cents and then when you go there your always going to think about that hidden tax on every charge and then also the tipping so basically its shit lol

i think its still cheaper to go but yeah so sad our dollar is tumbling down :(

    great price and great find.

but be warned, flying to Honolulu on Jetstar is nothing short of horrible. its just too far for these budget airlines, with no leg room, uncomfortable seats and next to no entertainment. i was stuck in a middle seat and didn't bring any books, so just sat there, uncomfortable, with nothing to do but stare at the seat in front of me.

It gets you there i guess

    • I flew Hawaiian Airlines November 2013, was the single worst flying experience I've been on. Was literally like stepping back in time. And I've done a fair bit of international flying, including JetStar to Japan which is a similar flight time. Atleast JetStar are honest about being a budget airline. Hawaii itself was amazing but.

      • wow thats interesting.. you'd think for a big airline like hawaiian airlines it would be better. i'd always fancy going with them if they had a sale on because they get 70kg each or something - bloody crazy lol

        • Umm, big airline? Biggest in Hawaii ;-) 8th biggest in the USA…

    • totally agree with your comments relating to leg room and seats. went to Honolulu in November last year and have to say that I will never gonna do it again with this company. having traveled with Jetstar several times, I was surprised with the poor travel experience in this route. also had issues with the fact that they sell on their website up to 40kg of checked in luggage allowance but you are only allowed a maximum of 32kg at check-in in accordance to same international (or US) rule - had a heated discussion with the check-in lady trying to explain what I bought versus what she told me she would allow…

      • Did you have one 40kg bag or multiple? 32kg may be an oh&is limit

        • Two with 35kg each (one per passenger) that I had to diminish to 32kg by placing a few items into the carry on bags. No matter what, if they sell 40kg allowance then they are selling something that doesn't exist.

        • @stellaaddicted:
My understanding is you can take multiple bags totaling the limit. In your case, you could have two 20kg bags as an example.

I've purchased 40kg on the way back too and will be splitting into two bags.

        • @Onnzo: just be warned that I called jetstar prior to buying the 40kg and I was told back them that you are only allowed one checked luggage per passenger. Extra luggages will be charged per kg at airport prices. Don't be surprised if your idea of spliting doesn't work.

        • @stellaaddicted:

This is off their website. Your baggage allowance is given by combined weight, not by number of bags. As long as your bags have a combined weight within your allowance, bring as many as you like. No single bag can weigh more than 32kg.

I'll report back if it is anything otherwise.

    • I've flown with both Jetstar and Hawaiian Airlines to Honolulu (return) and would have to say that Jetstar would be the better airline in this case. At least 2 restarts of the entertainment system was required each way with Hawaiian Airlines and the seats on their Boeing A330-200 (2-4-2) seem cramped with little to no padding or recline.

Which is surprising given Jetstar also fly the same A330-200 (2-4-2) model to Honolulu as well - that is until the new Boeing 787 Dreamliners (3-3-3) become available for the Sydney-Honolulu route next month.. more passengers more problems perhaps!

My Hawaiian Airlines flight didn't even have TVs in the back of the seats. I knew this before flying and loaded up the tablet. But still shitty considering Hawaiian Airlines wasn't at the time priced as a budget airline.

There was one TV per cabin, but for the entire ~9hour flight, only ONE movie was shown. The rest of the time it was footage of Hawaiians dancing. Not to be culturally insensitive, but ~7hours of that was garbage.

        • Sounds like you flew on the Boeing 767 (from Brisbane?) offering overhead screens in places throughout the cabins instead of the back of seats. From the looks of it they offer iPad minis for rent instead.. (complimentary for first class however).

As another bonus I had booked through Virgin and even though I paid full price for the Hawaiian Airlines flights I still could not claim partner Velocity points as the code share at the time was exempt!

        • @justanotherjoe:
Yep from Brisbane, no idea of plane type. At the time they rented Samsungs. But renting a tablet sounds filthy to me. Last thing you want is to get sick for your holiday because some feral used the thing the flight before.

    • Even going to Bali was horrible enough. One of the planes didn't have any in flight entertainment on the seat backs. And the seats are awful, most uncomfortable flight I have had. The leg room is completely insufficient for grown adults.

    • You need the "$1 business class".
AKA any benzo (Valium based drug)
It's not a sleeping pill, but a muscle relaxant, so it just calms you enough to allow you to sleep in any position.

    • Also - Jetstar are now flying the Dreamliner to Honolulu - should be a little bit of a help.

      • What's the Dreamliner experience like compared to the A330-200? Not sure this is any better as it looks like the transition to the Dreamliner (Jetstar) loses an inch in seat pitch and a half inch in seat width compared to the A330-200! (see SeatGuru)

  • Any snack offered on flight or BYO??

    • there's always snacks offered…for a price

Thanks for the link! Just booked $860 return flights (inc luggage) from Adelaide-Honolulu for my wedding in May. You saved a lot of people a whole lot of money :D

  • can anyone find some cheap accomodation to go with the Hawaii deal?

    • There are lots of accommodation options in Honolulu, specifically in the Waikiki area. You'd be better served providing your requirements and a nightly budget (in USD) on the TripAdvisor forums.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Thanks op! I've seen a few of deals to hawaii recently and been shot down by the missus on the past few. We've agreed to go this time round :)

We love hawaii and this will be our 3rd trip. I've travelled numerous times with Jetstar on long haul and you get what you pay for. Some people just need to manage their own expectations.

I'm happy to pay peanuts and get monkeys!
