Sprinter 16" Lawn Mower $149 @ Bunnings

150

Bunnings have reduced the price of their Sprinter 16" Lawn Mower to $149.

Mod: We have been informed that stores have been given instructions to offer a $299 Victa lawn mower, should this $249 lawn mower not be in stock (which is quite likely). This is not guaranteed and will ultimately depend on the store and team member serving, however it would be worth asking. We are aware customers have been offered this Victa lawn mower instead of the Sprinter that was unavailable. This is the substituted Victa model.

The catcher on this is a pain in the a** to remove, when full the hook holding it won't budge.

  • Like the B&S motor, hopefully ball bearing wheels instead of bushes, not keen on the bag for a catcher or the single blade.

From my experience in repairing mowers in the 80's, the single blade is not good if you hit something hard (like a buried rock) while the blade is spinning. They can bend the crank shaft that the blade is fitted to, the result back then was a new motor, now days, probably a new machine.

not good if you hit something hard (like a buried rock)

probably OK if you're just using it to mow lawn though…

paved edging will be a possible issue though.

Forgot to mention cuts the lawn to perfection and not a single issue despite smashing gravel, tiles, etc…
A very reliable mower, but not the easiest of catchers to change.

    • I've heard this many times, about machines breaking on a rock hit, in the past.

DO NOT DO WHAT I DO

However, mine is still running fine, having accidentally hit a few small tree trunks and rocks sticking out of the ground. On casual inspection, it seems fine and is still running, now in it's 3rd year.

So … maybe the newer single blades are a bit more resilient than the old ones … I'm not an expert.

Mine was a 4 stroke Sprinter with Briggs and Stratton engine, from Bunnings

I picked my Rover up yesterday from masters and used my $20 off voucher from the catalouge so got it for $139. Anywho…. gave it a burl today!! Must say it is a ripper! starts with no effort and is extremely well made for the bucks!! Catcher is easy to remove and put back on. . I spend a few hours a day in my garden and although I didnt need an extra mower when i saw the Rover at masters with my own eys I nabbed it. This is a good deal though if anyone is prefers it.

    • Could u share the link to that Rover? I checked the website. could not find anything that is $159. The closest one is a Wesco 139cc for $197 and the other one is a Flymo push mower for $129.

      • Instore only mate. It started yesterday so should be stock left. Call ahead and ask to save the drama:)

        • Thanks. which masters store did u pick up yours from?

        • Morayfield had plenty of stock yesterday morning.

  • I had one and it did the job just fine, a true bargain

  • Had this for over 3 years. Unless I was doing it all wrong, starting it was always bit of a pain. The catcher is hard to remove. Other then these 2 glitches, it did the job just fine. Make sure you keep the engine oil topped up, and check the air filter every 6-12 months.

    • If this is mine, I had some problems. There was a round grid of plastic at the top, near the pull, which I took off and it started fine after that. I don't know why the grid interfered.

  • Bar blades need sharpening yearly and the mower will conk out easily due to less reciprocal mass. After 5 mows it will start chunking and butchering the grass. Swing back blades keep cutting well all the way up to replacement and are easy to replace. Give someone with a bar blade a 4 swing back mower to use and they will notice the difference that's for sure. The rest of the specs look good though.

    • this is true, although it wont be a problem for a well maintained lawn.

I'd say 10% of people would ever properly service their mower in this country. Sharpening and balancing the blade is very easy. Sometimes impact gear is very handy taking the blade off. The bar blade is a Yankee thing where they always seem to service there mowers in the off season.

  • Ive had one of these for 3 years now. Still works, but throttle spring stretched out(so a pain to adjust), spark plug cable connector has also broken. The diffuculties with the catcher is the least of my worries! Still, the motor keeps going…Worth it for 150$
