are you kidding me? this is a great deal

    • +5

Wait what? You're negging it because the free item you get is worth $80 and not $99? When all you have to pay is $50?

    • +3

If you would not neg the deal I would think you are just joking.
You get bonus worth of 160-200% of the goods you purchase and you still complain?
Selection is big enough for an ordinary chap.
I got sodastream recently, so no need for one even if I would use Havana Club or Jameson whiskey - I will leave to people who will use the sodastream.

  • +1

Good deal. For $59.95 all up you get $50 of booze and a $80-90 sodastream.

Shame there is no cask wine in those brands (that I'm aware of). Could have tried this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSNHfAX_vZA.

    • +20

Only in Australia would someone say 'shame there is no cask wine'.

      • +10

What is cask wine? In Australia we say goon bag. Get it right ;)

Awesome deal by the way. Shame I just bought a Sodastream 2 days ago!

    • +1

Interesting idea. I've been looking at getting one for sparkling water (the flavour packs have no appeal) and I'm wondering if it could be used to give a bit more fizz to homemade ginger beer.

      • +3

On this idea, I'd suggest don't… Or do, but it will go EVERYWHERE. They're good for adding fizz to water, but anything more than that and you get a mess.

Source Tried using it to add some fizz to homemade beer because I couldn't wait for bottle conditioning :D

Also tried using it to refizz drinks

        • +2

Little bit more complicated than that, but in general yeah, most things foam up too much and spill out. I've tried it with tea and coffee and it works ok (from a technical point of view)… sparkling coffee tastes gross :P

Anything that "foams" when carbonated is likely to spill out.

      • +1

Thanks to both of you for the advice. Will proceed very carefully, if at all.

  • +1

Looks good - now to find the cheapest place to get the relevant booze from! Do any of those places have an online store? (the few I tried didn't).

Edit: I see 'Duncans' advertises Brancott at 2 for $25 which would mean 4 for $50 to qualify… but they don't seem to be in QLD :(

    • +1

Try searching on Boozle for the cheapest prices. Works great for beer, should work for spirits.

      • Cheers - not finding any of these independent stores on there though…

  • +4

These sodastream machines were around years ago, and I'm pretty sure it was a dead-end product.

Only the past 2 years have I seen it pick up in popularity - what gives? The redesign and new rebanding? The timing is just right in the market, as people are more health-conscious than ever?

    • +8

      Scarlett Johansson

    • +2

3 negs? What gives - I was asking a question, I still don't have an answer, bar the scarlett johannsson reference.

    • Nespresso coffee pod machines have been around for about 15-20 years, and look at them now!

    • SodaStream is having a huge resurgence. Amongst my peers alone probably 5 out of 10 have bought one in the last year.

  • +2

Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz, a decent BBQ red, is On for 9.90 per bottle (4 bots or more) at my nearest Cellarbrations store, and I need a spare gas cylinder to feed my wife's fizzy water (unflavoured) habit. Good find.

  • Just as this went frontpage, sites getting hammered! Cant even get on to claim.

  • What are the prices like at those retailers? I really only shop at Dan Murphys so I'm kinda irrationally cynical of 'independents' and assume their prices will always be higher. Though I do know this isn't always the case.

That is… does it reduce the potential awesomeness of the deal if A) you could buy the booze cheaper elsewhere and B) you could either buy that same SodaSteam machine model for less than their claimed RRP (note: $9.95 postage), or simply buy another model SS machine for like $50-65 when they're on special at K-Mart or Big W like they often are. Plus there isn't a real guarantee that everyone who claims for these SS machines will get one, as there are only 1300 remaining (though the odds are obviously decent..).

Note I haven't negged the deal. Just thinking out loud first :P

    • +2

If you can find me a bottle of Jameson + a sodastream for ~$60 total elsewhere, I'm all ears :P

      • +2

I may not have thought my post through properly….

        lol

        • +2

Lol ah I think odds of getting in that 1300 would be good in the next week… Beyond that, not so much!

For the record I found this deal while on the thirsty camel website, just briefly popped up! :)

I really would prefer a blue one too! (as per T's and C's there's 1000 white and 500 blue!)

  • What's the actual process of redeeming it?

    • Read T's and C's :)

      • +1

Tried that, but the site is down atm. I'll probably go pick up some grog tomorrow, so just wanted to know if I need to request a redemption voucher or something.

        • +1

Ah ok nah just needs a scan of the receipt :)

  • +2

site is still down =( have my receipt and all. Try again later! Remember that there are specific brands you need to purchase to qualify for the deal (spend at least $50 in 1 purchase on the following)

    750 ml bottle of Jacob's Creek, Brancott Estate, or Stoneleigh;
or 700ml(+) bottle of Jameson, Absolut or Havana Club

    Cheers

    • Thanks Robin. Didn't know that as the site is down.

  • +1

I found a link to the T&C from the promoters site before they launched, it might be old/different to the real T&C but at least it loads given the real site is down… can anyone confirm it's the same or at least equivalent terms and conditions?

    http://herestosummer.campaign.net.au/terms.html

  • Does anyone know if you can use your old sodastream bottles with this model ? I would love to upgrade but if it means I couldn't use the bottles I already have then it's prob not worth it.

    • If you are referring to the small green gas bottles from the 80's, then no.
These days they are much larger cannisters closer in size to a large deodorant bottle.

      • Nah I mean the plastic containers that you fill with water

        • confirmed yes you can

  • +2

Site is back up, I just registered my claim.

  • +1

When I first looked yesterday (shortly after the post) there were 1288 left, and now there are 1221 left.

So about 65 gone in about half-a-day, so looks like they won't run out in the next few days at least.

    • +2

Yeah but I can imagine many Ozbargainers hitting up the bottle shops tonight!

      • +2

Done mine now. 1143 left as I completed, so pace definitely ramping up…

Mind you, I had to deal with a Cellarbrations employee who was not the sharpest tool in the shed so a bit time-consuming.

Bought 6 Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz down from 11.99 each to 9.90 each in a 4-bottle buy. He rings it up and asks me for 72 dollars. I point out the sign saying "9.90 in 4-bottle buy" and he astutely points out that I don't have a 4-bottle buy, I have a 6-bottle buy.

Then I say I'd like to have all six at 9.90 each, or failing that, one 4-bottle buy + 2 singles.

Manager called to adjudicate and finally I get the six at 9.90 each.

  • Cheers, just registered my claim, still 1206 left.

  • Just registered ~1000 left

    • +1

Haha promotion started on the 5th, with about 500 claims in about a week. And we've had about 500 in the last 24hrs since being posted!

  • Has anyone had their claim approved yet? I'm kind of uncertain about mine, as the Thirsty Camel I went to is attached to a pub, and the receipt just lists the pub name and nothing about Thirsty Camel. I put a little note in mentioning it was indeed a Camel store, but still uncertain on it.

    • nope

    • Me neither.

    • I logged in to the claim tracker and saw that my claim was approved (or valid, or something similar) and they were "processing payment" for the P&H. Don't know why it should take more than 0.01 seconds to take 10 bucks from a credit card, but approved is good.

      • Yeah, mine is now the same, which is a good sign. Guessing they're processing payments manually, or they're going to do them all in a batch? Hopefully it gets shipped soon.

  • Its consumable is expensive. Their website says "60 Litre Spare Gas Cylinder $51.95", with shipment I expect it to be $60. that makes $1 per liter of soda water. Since soda water is $0.75 per 1.25L ($0.6 per liter) in Woolworths. Woolworths ship to my door for free on order over $30 (50Liter). Using this machine is 66.7% more EXPENSIVE than buying soda water from Woolworths.

Besides, I developed a taste of Woolworth Seleclt's sparkling mineral water and sparkling fruit juice, both are $0.81 per 1.25L ($0.65 per liter). If I use Sodastream I'll have to pay twice, once for mineral water, and once for orverpriced-carbonization, making this machine 166.7% more expensive (2.67 times the cost).

Besides, it's hard to find spirits at $50. Most spirits are just a few dollors short, so you will have to buy two with ~$98 in reality to join. I don't know the wine part but the T&C didn't say you can mix wine and spirit. It says you either by these wines, or you buy these spirits.

Even if the machine is free, I wouldn't take it. I will take it if the machine is shipped with 60L gas cylinder included, and not use it after cylinder expires. But no where mentioned if a cylinder comes in. Maybe such product is always shipped with a cylinder so they don't mention it. I am a new immigrant thus no experience. Can someone tell me if you are confident that a cylinder will be in it?

The name says it, "Sodastream PLAY", it is for jovial spirits who are enamoured by bubbles. Don't let your kid see the ad, they are the real target customers, they will spoil you by asking you to buy yourself $50+ liquor to get the machine.

Always check the price of consumable before buying the machine. Consumables makes money, machines are marketing vehicles, it's been like this since 90s with Inkjets.

    • +4

You don't have to buy the consumables from them. BIGW swaps the 60L cylinder out for about $20. Use cordial instead of their packaged syrups if you want flavour.

You can also hack the machine to use larger cylinders and it becomes even cheaper. I haven't yet tried on my existing one, but I fully intend after I get this one, so no loss if I don't do it right. If it works,I can give the new one to my mum.

Bottled water from Woolworths generates a lot of waste plastic, and often goes flat before you finish the bottle.

    • +3

As mentioned, the gas works like a BBQ gas cylinder, so you just take the empty to the supermarket, pay about 13 dollars (for the 40l cylinder), and get a full one. You can swap a 40l for a 60l or vice versa, because you're just paying for the gas. I am sure the deal comes with a cylinder because the RRP quoted is for the full system.

I wouldn't buy unwanted wine or spirits just to get the deal, but if you are going to drink them anyway, and the price is not too much greater than, say, Dan Murphys, it is just moving forward the purchase in order to get the deal. I bought wine that I just added to my cellar because I know I'll drink it eventually. Price was 5c more than Dan Murphys so I paid an extra 30c plus the P&H of 9.95.

You might be overthinking this one, because it's a pretty good deal.

  • I'm tempted I buy booze all the time
But dunno if I need a soda stream
Strange promo if you ask me… Buy booze to get a soda stream?!?

    • Promoting cocktail/summer drinks I think

      • +1

Really? I"m assuming most people would opt for the wines then the vodka - which is really the only thing that the Soda stream is good for.
I say this now but I'll prob get sucked in and buy $50 work just to redeem.

  • Thanks OP, I reckon this is a bloody brilliant deal and I can't believe it hasn't been Ozbargained yet! I mean all I have to do is spend $50 on booze + $10 for postage and I get something that I can sell on ebay hopefully for at least $60 if I don't want to keep it or gift it (Chrissy 2015 pressies already sorted perhaps?!). Ok so I realise that I am paying a little bit more on the grog than if I got the best deal from Dan Murphy's etc but hey I'm going to use it all anyway over time. And remember that if you decide to keep or gift the Sodastream then the thing has only cost you just over $10 (the postage plus the extra you lost with not getting the best price on the booze), but if you sell it then in the end all the grog is basically free!

  • great bargain OP, thanks! anyone know how long it takes to get the soda stream? it has been 48 hours since I claimed but no email (assuming it was because most of that was the weekend) but just checking if anyone else has got the confirmation email..

So I bought the items yesterday, but all they gave me was the eftpos receipt, and apparently that is not valid as it is not itemised.

Anyone have a cellarbrations receipt they can send me so I can photoshop my details onto it? lol

    • Never mind. Went back to the store and they printed me out a proper receipt.

    • My e-mail said four. Just in time for summer - next time!

      • +1

Yeah mine said up to 4 weeks too. But given some people received theirs on the 3rd and this post was only made about 3 weeks earlier, taking into account about 1 week for buying/processing. I'd say 2 weeks from payment processed to delivery is a decent guess.

        I'm in Brisbane, it's always time for a summer drink… :)

FWIW, my Sodastream was delivered ~8 hours before I received the dispatch notice by email. It'll probably be sooner.
