What, no USB 3.0? Seems a bit strange nowadays even for a budget PC…

    • +2

Yeah.. but it's a clearance PC so I guess it's using a pretty cheap Motherboard that doesnt support USB3.0 but that probably can be solved by purchasing a PCI USB3 card.

    • +6

The CPU was released 2.5 years ago and is previous generation and chipset was released 4 years ago and is two or three generations back.

      There's a reason it's clearance.

      • USB 3.1 is coming out first. USB 4.0 is years away

        • is that the reversible USB like thunderbolt

  • Anyone know if it will support vSphere (ESX) as base OS?

  • +4

I bought a version of this computer boxing day from centrecom, but it had a slightly faster processor, I think 4790. It has 2 usb3 but only on the back of the unit. I added an ssd, and its plenty fast for my modest requirements (I don't game on PC). The motherboard in mine is an Asus, I think 81 or something (currently overseas so I don't recall exactly). Doesn't have HDMI out so I bough a dvi-hdmi adapter.

    • +3

Just out of curiosity and for reference, how much was that system?

      • It was 499 as well, no operating system. Seemed like a good deal at the time, specs for price. Crazy queues at centre com boxing day like everywhere else.

Bought it to replace an ancient crappy HP laptop from 2007 - though since I've put an ssd in that and gave it to my dad its much faster too.

  • As someone looking to get away from laptops and into a PC, is this good? I'm a complete noob when it comes to PC specs. I don't do any gaming on my laptop but may do a little on PC if the rig is good enough but I don't want to spend a fortune either.

Do PC's (this one) generally have WiFi connectivity? I run my laptop wirelessly and would need a 20m cable to hardwire a PC if required.

    • Hey desktop pcs usually don't come with wireless connectivity, but this can be added by usb external or internal pci card adaptor for ~20 bucks. The parts on this pc are quite old, and it will not game (well maybe very poorly), as it is using integrated intel video from a few years ago.

      • +1

The CPU is top tier though, and with a GPU upgrade is easily upgradable to gaming PC.

The parts are not old per se, but not exactly of top or desirable quality. E.g power supply is generic and may not produce a consistent 500 watts.

        It's sold out now though.

      • Actually, I wouldn't say wireless connectivity is uncommon on modern desktops.

That said, if you don't have it, you can get a card for probably around $30.

Hi Jonesy I see the deal is expired

If you're still looking for a good price for a light gaming desktop, I recommend picking a setup from the Whirlpool Gaming Configs wiki and ask a store to build it for you.
      1) go to this page: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_gaming_conf…
      2) Pick a budget
      3) Email Umart with the rig you want (and link the whirlpool page)
      4) Ask to add a wireless card
      5) If you need windows, ask them to throw in windows 8 (or 7) and ask to have it installed for you. Or install it yourself for FREE hint hint.
      6) If you need keyboard/mouse https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175625
      7) Wait for a quote.

The whirlpool gaming config wiki is updated by community members to meticulously find the best performance PCs possible at the various price points. The reason why Umart is because they'll build PCs for free and they usually offer some of the lowest prices for parts, you just pay shipping.

PS: If you don't have a monitor you'll need a monitor.

      • Awesome Kanasuke, thanks for that. I'll certainly check out they WP wiki and see just how overwhelmed I become :)

My laptop is about to throw in the towel so I need to do something ASAP anyway. Thanks again!!

      • Sorry, I down voted your comment by mistake. I was supposed to press up button… (on my mobile & accidentally fat-fingered)
        Thanks for your suggestion!

BTW, I did not negg you :)

That wiki is quite useful. Also there are a lot of discussions on Reddit in build a pc section.

      • +1

www.logicalincrements.com is also helpful as the WP forums.

        • Wow. did know that earlier. But it looks so simple to understand. I hope the price in Aus will be 10-20% extra. But atleast we can get the items and assemnle together or get from Umart.

        • @Gaggy:

You can select which country the site gets its prices from at the top of the grid where it says "select country"

Then it gets its parts from mwave and pccasegear.

          Cheers.

        • @SnowDragon: Thanks. PCCaseGear is fine. Not sure about MWave. Will be building a rig soon :)

        • @SnowDragon:

I'm not associated with CCO btw. I accidentally clicked it for some reason.

Sorry if you thought I was guys.

    • Thanks to those who posted the extra info re: other sites. There certainly seems to be some very helpful sites (and people) out there but as someone who really has no idea about PC's it's all still pretty daunting stuff. I don't even know where to start :(

      • Haha. First make your budget, look at these sites where someone had recently build a pc like that or post it in reddit to build one.

Once you have the list, you can go to MSY for the parts and they can assemble it for you for a fee.
Or Order from UMart and if I remember they assemble free and can deliver.

  • Wish they could provide an exact list of the parts they use for this build. Also, looks like it's Sold Out OP!

  • is there a free pick up option?

  • pretty cheap, but it is a discontinued line (1155 intel cpu socket). Not a huge worry as its covered for one year, but after that it could be difficult to replace the motherboard if it fails.

    • +1

There are plenty of used or refurbished 1155 motherboards on eBay

      • Second hand motherboards are quite risky.

  • +11

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS SHOP. ALL SHIT AND LIES.

    • +1

in particular: they send you used parts when you expecting new…. hardware actually dusty and dirty, seals broken, boxes open etc etc. may as well buy used from eBay cheaper.

      • +2

for my case, take the money, never post the item, email them, never reply emails. THIS SHOP SHOULD BAN ON MARKETING HERE.

  • +1

    :( sold out

    • great, less ozB's that will get scammed!

    • +2

lucky you. you may get 286PC if lucky…

      • Or if you're really lucky a 386SX masquerading as a 386DX. Now what was that dodgy shop in the western suburbs of Brisbane called back then?

  • Ha! I remember spending a stack of money back in 1989 on a new computer, and tossing up between a 386DX40 and a 486SX25 (speed?). I went for the 486 because it was the next generation, but always felt gypped as the math co-processor had been knobbled. Ah, the good old days…

    • Mine was a 486SX33 with 4mb of ram :P

Bought similar spec PC from these people last month for $1,100 and performance is good but after looking at this deal, I am feeling I have paid way more for my Desktop.

  • Great first deal OP!

    $20~ PSU (Approximate Guess)

    I don't recommend a $20 PSU..

    • It's a $50 case which includes the psu, the psu isn't sold separate for $20

      • +1

If it's $50 and includes the PSU, it's going to be a terrible PSU. A quality one will cost more than $100 for the PSU alone. You put the rest of your system at risk when you use some SHAW quality PSU. Skimp on something else.

        • +1

^ can't recommend this enough. The PSU is the one component you should spend a good amount on. Corsair are my personal favorite - 7 year warranty.

        • +1

It's worth noting that the majority of people don't need higher wattage on the PSU, just higher quality.

A good quality 350-450W PSU like the Seasonic 350W 80Plus Gold, Corsair CX-430 v3, Seasonic S12II 430W, or Antec Neo Eco 450 will be more than enough for everything but a high end gaming PC with one or two massive graphics cards.

  • +2

Me neither, but that was just a rough guess as the brand of the PSU isn't actually listed..

  • Any other good PC deals?

This deal lasted 1 hour before expiring…
