$298 Dyson DC45 Stick Vacuum Model No.21024 (Was $489) @ The Good Guys

980

I saw the discount DC35 deal yesterday from Target and rocked up to Good Guys today to price match but actually saw they had the more advanced DC45 on offer for $1 cheaper. Had no hesitation to buy it straight away.

What's the difference between DC35 and DC45? Have a look at the comparison article below but in short:
* Slightly longer running time (20 minutes which is 5 minutes more than DC35)
* 65 Air Watts (5 more than DC35's 60 Air Watts)
* More advanced motorised carbon fibre cleaner head than DC35.

  • Is this really that cheap? Quick google, looks like it's the same price in Bing Lee and jb hifi

    • +1

Yes true they all have the "same price" at the moment not sure permanent or on special…
But these normally cost more than $3xx

Guys the Dyson's Vacuum War has just began. I bought it at JB for $298 with free delivery. I was waiting for this deals for months.

        • Just ordered mine from JB as well!

        • It's a bit like Apple gear. Prices are more or less fixed across all retailers for months, and only move significantly with the blessing of the manufacturer. It makes waiting for discounts on new models pretty much worthless as by the time it's discounted a newer and shinier model is just around the corner. Just like Apple.

Still, this is just a vacuum cleaner. Unless the battery deteriorates within a few years I'll be a happy user.

        • You just lost the war as goodguys is 5% cheaper…

        • @bleemo: Oh no. Doesn't matter Santa gave me few JB gift cards so I had to buy from JB.

        • @andycandy:

          hehe even better

        • @Cluster: Isn't that what batteries do … (no idea if you need to replace batteries in this instance though).

I've never actually owned a Dyson product, people do seem rather enthused about them so maybe they have that "something special" that Apple products have. They certainly have the price tag ;)

  • Air watts??

  • Must be new price. Dyson DC59 is the successor. They must be clearing stock

    • I would agree and I was so ready to jump on and get the DC 44/45 but after reading the comparison between the two, I'm now torn to wait until the DC59 go down in price due to the listed improvements :(

      • indeed….

      • Based on the myer deal yesterday I was getting ready to part with the extra $100 for a 59 but now the price difference is about $150 im think the 45 might just do the trick…or I guess waiting for the 59 price to fall…then again look how long it took for these models to drop to these prices the current $440 of the 59 might be close to its new price.

      • Forgive my laziness, but overall what does the DC59 have over the 44/45?

        • +9

          6 minutes extra battery life
More suction power on 'boost' mode (35 more WATTZZZZZ)
Double cyclonic something something…for extra filtration
          Extra anti-gravity (lighter)

          Those are the main points…

        • @bleemo: Thank you kind sir! Very helpful.

        • We have both…the newer more expensive one has more power and longer run time. Ta da!

        • @bleemo: Minor improvements? I don't see that you're gaining very much. Other than a lighter wallet of course.

It's not like you weren't going to buy the old model right?

        • @Diji1: i agree its like when that comes out then a newer model comes out and then you said your going to wait for that one instead when it goes on sale

        • @Diji1:

6 minutes of battery life? that's a 30% increase. In 6 minutes I could probably do an extra 2 to 3 bedrooms.

Anyway, decided not to buy any of them haha! will stick with my normal vac

  • Newer model is coming soon? I am waiting for price drop of DC59.

    • I picked up a DC59 for $440 at HN on the weekend

Just bought from Good Guys for $283.10 (pickup in store). Found a 5% off coupon on their website via http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/get-5-percent-off.

I hope this helps a fellow Ozbargainer out.

    • Wish I thought of the coupon this morning, could have saved another $15. Thanks for the update!

    • Thanks. On hold with the store now to get my 5% back :)

    • Thanks. You are the man!

    • I have access discounted GG giftcards too…seriously considering if should get this now

    • Sure did help out thanks! 5% off, even with shipping, makes it cheaper than JB.

Was holding out for the DC59, but I live in a small apartment with timber floors, so it's perfect (my roomba is good but this is perfect for spot cleaning!).

    • Nice work finding this out. I'm just going to post a separate deal to inform OzBargainers who haven't been on this comment thread.

  • Just bought one from GG Noarlunga SA. $294 in store. Didn't know you could buy online and pick up in store so missed out on a few dollars more discount, but oh well. DC45 looks like a nice bit of gear. My first Dyson.

This vacuum is great for small jobs. Be wary that it only has a 20 min + battery life though. Not good if you wanna give your whole house a HEPA™ hygienic clean with dyson Radial Root Cyclone technology™ in one spirited cleaning session.

    • +1

20 minutes normal power, 8 minutes on boost. Fortunately, I don't need mine to suck longer than that.

      • +2

8 minutes on boost. Fortunately, I don't need mine to suck longer than that.

        Hehehe…

      • You must live in a smaller dwelling, or have minimal mess from pets. Lucky you :(, lugging a vacuum around 350 square meters and 2 storeys is hard work.

        • +2

140m2, and it's all tiled. Not a single piece of carpet/rug in the place. I clean the floors using a mop but a quick run around first with a vacuum is very handy for dust balls, cat claws, cat litter, crumbs and other odd things that mops tend to push around rather than pick up.

        • +5

You poor thing, having to live in a 350sq metre, double story home and complain about the weight of your vacuum cleaner. Its such a drag trying to survive in the first world…

        • +1

Er … this doesn't seem like the right tool for the job. Seriously? LEL.

        • +5

          @Cluster:
You should buy a robot vac (we have three dysons which are all awesome, but don't gt used much as it's mainly tiled and the robotvac gets all the things you mention :) (avoid the LG one though - we call her dorothy because she can't find her way home)

        • @ttc72: Check out the new Dyson robot vac that is coming. looks awesome.

        • @deal88:
I have been, but the lady at harveys says it's going to be mega expensive :(

  • Just bought from JB as well.

    Thanks OP.

  • JBHIFI in narre warren, VIC, couldn't match $283.10 price. They only do to advertised price.

  • I think I will wait for the DC59 price to go down.

  • so for roughly $50 dollars extra you get a mini motorized head for the DC44 animal. is this right? is the mini motorized head worth it?

    • +1

I was sold on motorised heads the first time I used one because of how many times I had to empty the vacuum cleaner - however aren't people already complaining about bettery life? Unless it has it's own battery of course.

  • +2

For those of you salivating at this price (me, me!), but torn between having the new and improved (me, me!), this provides a comprehensive comparison between the DC44 and DC59.

    • DC44 is the US/UK model and exactly the same as DC45

    http://vacuum-guy.hubpages.com/hub/DC44-Vs-DC59

    • +1

Good link pretty indepth, the conclusion is worth noting:

One last note I'd like to make though is that I don't believe the DC44 can replace a corded vacuum cleaner (instead only supplement it), the DC59 however I believe (if you have a relatively small home/apartment based living area) does have the capability of replacing that of a fully fledged vacuum.

For me personally, for an extra $100, I would go with the DC59 every time.

      • At present it's over $150 difference.

I bought one and i'll use it in conjunction with my Roomba and my DC29 Dyson (which gets used only in the bedrooms with carpet). If you have a small apartment with timber floors, I don't think the $150 is really worth it if you already have a Vacuum cleaner (if you don't then you're spot on :))

Rejoice fellow OzBargainers, we finally have something much cheaper than the USA does!

    http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-DC44-Digital-Slim-MK2/dp/B008SH8…

    US$299 on Amazon (AU$364) and that's allegedly down US$100.

  • Cant buy a DC45 for $283 when couple of months back a DC59 was for just $338 at Myer

    • you sure it wasnt the DC45 for $339 at myer?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179081

        • Problem is when a deal comes, 1st just put the Brand and model name and search for best price before pressing on the Buy Now button :D

        • @regenade: Can't buy a DC59 for $338 when yesterday I brought a DC59 Animal for just $324.50 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174552#comment-2442168

        • Can't compare a deal to the general public and a private exchange via pm.

        • @Davo93: yeha I know it isnt like for like but i did what others talked about where you registered and asked. they were kind enough to find a couple left for me which is why I didn't post.

        • @Chongy288: Yep kicking myself they sent me one of the remaining 49 codes but by the time I got home at 8 that night they were already gone promo over >.<

Looking over OZB it does seem like the 59 has come up for $350-400 a couple of times, might hold off myself I think.

        • +1

Good for you man, I personally find all the best sneaky deals in the comments :P

        • @Chongy288: Were you able to claim the free $99 Tool kit too? http://discoverdyson.com.au/promotion/

        • @Osiris: Don't worry I know the feeling because that happened to me too….
I emailed them pleading my case and the ladies at MoM were really nice and opened it again for a short while after as they called dyson and found a few left. I so lucked out.

        • @Chongy288: ah see sometimes you just have to ask!! I almost emailed dyson doing the same but I thought it must have just been fate that I missed out twice. Awesome work mate was a good deal. Just gotta keep reminding myself first rule of Ozbargain - you znooze you loose :p

        • @unity1: I think i missed out as i just got it yesterday but I will ask and hope!

  • With the dollar is falling, can we still expect cheaper deals than previouse deals?

  • Has anyone tried using accessories from the larger models (eg. DC39) on any of these handhelds (DC45 or DC59). Wondering if they 'fit'?

    • some do, most don't.

  • Damn you OZB.. Thanks OP..

  • +8

I now have both, DC 45 and 59 animal. They dont compare.
59 is seriously awesome. For all of those considering getting the 45 I would hold out for the 59 to go on sale if you can!

    • +1

I just ordered a a DC45. On the checkout page for TGG, before you click to pay via paypal, above it and a bit to the left is a small link to add a promo code. Then you click this the page updates and the promo box appears.

      • Thanks Aradial
Found it, need to get a deal now with SpecSavers

  • Does the battery really hold up that long. Most cordless vaccum cleaners are no good after a year or two.

Might as well spend on corded ones?

What's the advantage of this compare to their corded range?

    • +3

I would think the advantages of cordless v's corded are fairly obvious.

      Pros - no cord
Cons - less power and limited run time.

The battery is fine. I've had one for a couple of years, used regularly and I still get roughly the advertised run time. Just enough to do my whole 2br townhouse.

My only gripe with the battery is that once it goes dead flat you can't just put a little charge in it. It won't work at all unless its been on charged for some time (>30min ??).

Other gripes compared to a large vac are:

      • there's some things the head struggles to pick up. eg. a small piece of dry dog food often just gets spun around in the head then falls back out.
      • the head required regular dis-assembly and cleaning of the brush.

      • small capacity canister.

Got this from jb hi fi. Used $70 gift cards from coke rewards as well. Thanks ozbargain.

  • Hi,
