  • Not made in Japan like the other canon dslrs but this is a great deal!

    • +1

Everything is from China nowadays !

      • +2

Well not all the other canon d range!

        • +4

according to wiki its taiwan but you surely jest, i think only the FF range is made in japan

        • -1

@tonyjzx:fairly certain its all others its just the 1xxx thats isnt.

        • @poop: Nope, my 600D is made in Taiwan.

        • +3

          @tonyjzx:
7D MKII (not full frame) is Japan and I think all their L lenses are too.

Interestingly they are bringing a lot of production back to Japan moving forward http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/01/09/japan-yen-manufact…

        • +1

@wonga: strange I had a 550d was made in Japan..was told only the 1xxx wasnt made in Japan when I bought it but might just depend on which factory it came out of?

        • 70D is made in Japan and the L lenses are also made in Japan.

        • Incorrect to some extent. Japan has their own seperate lineup for entry level cameras which are exactly the same as the D series - but made in Japan.

The Canon Kiss X_ series (equiv. of 550/600/650/700D) are all made in Japan. Most FF are MIJ as far as I'm concerned.

      • Except chinese folks. They're all from the Gold Coast or New Zealand, so I hear.

    • +7

Why does this matter? I've had stuff made from China outlast stuff made from Japan.

      • Exactly.

In the old days when manufacturing require human intervention, it actually matter which country.

However, nowadays a lot of those (if not fully) processes are automated. Everything come out with the same quality with some defects.

I am not sure about cameras though. :)

        • +6

What's important is not the automation - it's the quality control. Judge a manufacturer not on what they produce - but what they throw away.

I feel like I have just destroyed some famous quote there :S

        • +3

Let me help you out. Judge a manufacturer not on what they sell but on what they scrap.

    • +4

My Nikon D70 was made in Thailand. 10 years later I'm still using it. Just because something isn't made in Japan doesn't mean it's poor quality.

      • You are lucky you didn't buy the D600 with the oil issue or the D750 with the flare issue.

        • +1

          Or D7000 with focus issue.

          And on the Canon side.
          Or 70D with focus issue.
          Or 7D with focus issues.
          Or 1DSMarkIII with focus issues.

Really hate what the manufacturers get away with in terms of dud cameras.

  • Nice find!

  • any ideas of stock in syd?

  • Must be stock somewhere, going by all the votes.
The photo appears to show only one on the shelf.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…
If your deal has limited quantity, please mention it in the description. If the quantity is too small then your deal may be removed. As a guideline, less than 10 quantity of items is not enough for a deal unless the item has a high price.

    • +5

I get the feeling that people don't bother to check for availability before up voting any more.

  • -4

Did you know this was on special at the same time you posted the Nikon deal? If so, why not post them together?

    • -1

      lol whats the point?

      • Well if people were not able to find one they could have asked about the other.

        • -3

lol why he have to do that?

        • @imahapyboy: I don't think unity1 was suggesting he had to do it, just it may have helped it he had. But I can understand why that concept could be difficult to understand.

  • +3

To save anyone looking… the 1100D is not in the Canon cash back promotion.
    Eligible Purchase
    EOS 1200D $100
    EOS 100D $100
    EOS 600D $100
    EOS 700D $150
    EOS 70D $150
    EOS 6D $200
    EOS 5D MK III $200

    • +1

However, if anyone bought above you mentioned camera with this deal in one transaction, it should have additional $100 cashback at least.

      • +3

Or, if you bought a pair of socks with one of the above mentioned cameras, it should also have $100 Cashback ;-p

  • Any stock left in Sydney?

  • +1

Just rang around a few stores here on the northside of Brisbane, no luck. No stock at Morayfield, North Lakes, Strathpine, Taigum, and Chermside.

    • +4

Well you were lied to. Just grabbed the last one from the Taigum store

      • Did you buy more than one? Because when I rang just under an hour ago the guys said they had a couple.

        • A couple of boxes but only one camera apparently. I asked the guy at the counter and he confirmed I bought the last one after checking in the back

      • +8

Damn! Pay peanuts and get monkeys. Staff member probably couldn't be bothered looking. I snaffled another one from another store. Guess we both win!

  • Often the clearance items with limited stock, 1 or less in an unsealed box.

  • Model is old but that's a fantastic deal.

  • +1

Rang a few in South-East Melbourne but no luck.

    • +1

Waverly Gardens just sold the last one infront of me.

        • +6

Went to check for you guys as I was there. I don't need one.

        • lol harsh but fair

        • @varunsic:
          Just kidding ;)
We used to say that in primary school.

        • +2

@King Tightarse: Might be time to move-on

        • +2

          @Utopian:
Still amuses me but I have a very childish sense of humor.

      • That was probably me sorry. I think I grabbed last one there.

        • -1

The Asian women with her kid and mother?

        • Maybe not then.

        • +2

          @lysp:
Maybe not? You're not sure if you're an Asian woman who was shopping with your child and mother?

  • Just checked a few stores in Brisbane.

None in Mt Ommaney, Brisbane Macarthur or Taigum (only called Taigum as CBD store said they were the only ones they knew about with them left)

    • +1

Yeah sorry mate. Scored the last one from Taigum.

    • None at garden city, my gravatt !!

  • Nowt at warring ah mall

  • -2

By using the word "Nikon" in this non-Nikon related deal, you cause it to show up for everyone (like me) with an alert out for Nikon gear… GG.

    • +13

Will remember that when posting those Nikon compatible eneloops

      • +1

If they work with Nikon gear, then that would be a Nikon related deal, wouldn't it?

Nothing in this deal is Nikon related.

      • +1

        Sorry negged you accidentally…

    • Remember, it's never too late to upgrade.

      • If a $200 Canon from Big W is an upgrade you are starting from a pretty low base…

        • -1

You think using a phone built in camera is low base?

  • one left @ bonnyrigg, nsw

  • any in SA?

    • Called stores in TTP, Golden Grove, Kilkenny - no stock.
Managed to grab the last one at Parabanks (there was no signage for the $200 clearance, so just asked the lady to price check at counter).

      • same at Taigum in qld. Discounted price shows in system though.

      • Didn't see any @ Marion, SA

  • +2

    another Ghost deal?

  • +1

Got the last one from calamvale QLD. yaayy

  • I remember someone on here getting the twin lens version of this camera for $189.05 after getting OW to price beat a Target clearance price https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/141074#comment-1952258. Pity OW no longer stock this camera.

  • +4

nice photo of the box ;) what camera did you use?

    • The one he bought yesterday?

  • All these deals make me wonder if BIGW is just clearing current stock or getting out of the DSLR sales altogether.

  • damn, i was there, had box and some guy called from melborune before i got to it - but the staff let me have it

  • None at Karingal VIC

    • I checked Karingal, Park more and Fountain gate 2 hours back!

  • +1

bought last canon in waverly garden, no nikon in stock.

  • +1

no stock in BIG W Waverley Gardens, vic

    • +1

      No stock Southland, Vic

    • Grabbed the last one from Waverley Gardens at 3pm.

      • You must have been in front of this guy: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179416#comment-2507008

        • Ha ha, I rang up and asked them to put one on hold for me and grabbed it at 3PM. Maybe Alex27 is the dude who bought the camera in front of Varunsic? I didn't see anyone at the counter when I grabbed mine.

      • I called at 430 and picked one up there at 5.

    • I bought the last one.

  • You can get Jbhifi to Prue match this, as mentioned in this thread.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122594

    • +2

Only if you can find one in stock first, the salesman will call to verify your request.

  • Thanks got one sealed in box at Beenleigh big w Qld…..Now to decide if i really want it ,or sell my Olympus e-pm2.

    • you could see if anyone is interested on the forums. I'm still using my e-pm1 from a deal last year. about $130 for twin lens kit :D

  • i want it i want it i want it ……

It should be brand new and with warranty, right??

How can you refuse this price, as cheap as a normal compact camera… Unbelievable!!!

    • +1

Yes, only if you can find one in store.

  • +1

Picked up 2 from Brookside shopping centre at Mitchelton, QLD. Only one left.

    • +1

Ahh, im jealous…Stop showing offff.. haha..

  • Surprised these are still around. Bought mine about a year and half ago for $348.

  • The d3100 is a far better entry level DSLR than this

    • +2

Are we going to start the Nikon VS Canon fight here? :)

      Found this: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-1100D-vs-Nikon_D3100

Maybe you are right… But deep down i am a Canon fan what can i do? And IF the BigW store which i am going to check has this one at this price!

      • +1

No - I am not loyal to either brand. It always comes down to what's best at the time. For a long time Nikon had the best, then Canon, and now Nikon again (minus the quality issues - flare/oil etc).

      • Checked the store in Merrylands, no stocks. Even before i told the guy the models that i am after he already knew which one i would ask him..

Hate to know that some people here can grab 1 or even 2!!!, but on the other hand i am glad some get a bargain! :)

        • double-damn … nothing at my local Merrylands store ! Looks like people were quick on the draw for this bargain

  • +1

No Stock in Big W Broadmeadows, Craigieburn, Epping

  • Thanks, always wanted an SLR. Got the last one a Kuraby, QLD yesterday afternoon. They had no D3100s either.

  • +1

RRP for these are pretty pricey for 12mp. =\ I guess if you really wanted an SLR then yeah it's good deal, but otherwise a mirrorless with past deals around this point would of been better.
