I feel like this really isn't a good deal after seeing what's at CES. When all those super hi res monitors with Freesync come out it won't be long before these are cheap as chips.

And Dell often has sales on a higher res 27" model for only $50 more than this.

This one is an high end AH-IPS monitor (1.074 billion colours). The introduction of E-IPS made IPS quite affordable nowadays, but most of those monitors are 6bit + A-FRC (to achieve 16.7 million colours). This one has a card reader, USB 3 ports, and high adjustable stand. Looks like Dell added zero bright pixel warranty to it (but with IPS, it is generally the dead pixel / pixel staying black being the issue).

For general public, it is hard to see these as bargains, even at this discounted price.

      • From what i remembered, to display 1.074 billion colours, you will also need a 10 bit video card (Quadro/Firepro) as well as 10 bit software (Adobe Photoshop and not Lightroom).

And i'm guessing Jazoom is referring to the U2713HM, which is also AH-IPS (8bit rather than 8bit+FRC) which i agree will be a better buy for most people.

        • I think he is referring to the 4K resolution or even better. Yeah, personally, I really want one of those really high res 27 inch or better monitors. I am happy with 16.7 mil colours though I kinda prefer at least 8 bit, rather than 6-bit + FRC E-IPS monitors.

        • @netsurfer: Unless you're everything you're using is 10bit capable, you're blowing your money to get oversaturated colours anyway.

Those 4K+ monitors aren't going to do much to the pricing of professional grade monitors. Look at Dell's 27" 5K monitor, it costs practically as much as a 27" Retina iMac, and Dells are the cheaper end if you need colour fidelity.

        • @TheContact: Agreed. The latest monitor I bought is a 24 inch E-IPS (6 bit+FRC) because of the price ($140) and I am not a graphics artist. I really wish general SOHO monitors would have height adjustable stand though.

4K/5K monitors - want one, but overpriced. Will wait. Also, need to find room to put a 27 inch.

        • @netsurfer:

Also, need to find room to put a 27 inch.

          You wish.

I love seeing Dell 24ich deals, I bought mine when I was around 20yrs old, still using it today and I turn 30 in a week, best purchase of my life so far, amazing people still buy same size today (cost me ~$1200 from memory)

      2405fpw?

      • spot on!

        • My 2005 is still going strong too.

  • Does this have the same ugly dirty anti glare coating like the U2412M? If it is I DO NOT recommend.

    • This one does not have the glossy coating I reckon. Based on the specs:

      Color Depth: 1.074 billion colors
Color Gamut (typical): Adobe RGB 99%, sRGB 100% and 120% (CIE 1976)
Panel type, surface: AH In-plane switching, anti-glare with hard coat 3H

People looking for those specs generally expect accurate colours and probably would prefer anti-glare. Good discount, but with the introduction of E-IPS and similar technologies, these hi end IPS monitors are still quite pricey.

    • I use either the U2412M or U2413 at work. Not sure but will check tomorrow. Can't stand the anti-glare coating on it. To me it ruins what would otherwise be a great display. For reference I use a Korean X-Star DP2710 at home and couldn't be happier.

    • I have one. It doesn't look dirty. It looks pretty normal. I don't notice anything.

The colours are very nice and saturated. It has a the full RGB gamut.

Price is not cheap, but it's their premium range, and it's 16:10.

What I don't understand is why Dell moved the USB ports from the right side to the left side. So inconvenient now. And I can no longer plug my wireless mouse receiver to it, due to signal obstruction.

  • I have this screen, got it at the 20% off ebay sale when it was 30% off so around 408…been perfect for me, Great screen, Great size

  • 16:10, good for coding or web browsing. Not great for movies or gaming :-(

Not sure where you got that idea from…
16:10 is actually preferable for gaming, as you get extra hight in your field of vision.
