MSY return policy for unopened item?

Has anybody returned a unopened item from msy?

I purchased the wrong model and decided to buy the one I want from another branch so can I return the one I purchased by mistake?

  • Nope
    highly doubt it

what your asking is for a cash refund for something you do not want (purchased by mistake)
most places with good refund policy wont even allow you to do that
at most in-store credit…seldom cash (these days)

the fact you want a different model at a different branch is rather irrelevant in this circumstance

You are not automatically entitled to a refund if you simply change your mind or you later discover that you picked the wrong colour or the item doesn't fit.

They don't have to but might as a goodwill gesture. I bought a modem as MSY, opened it and tried to use it but it was the wrong one. Took it back and they gave me my money back, despite it having been opened.

Just be polite; there's no harm in asking!

  • At worst you'll get a 10% restocking fee or something silly, but better than having an unused item on your floor.

  • what was it?

      Network adaptor.

  • Easily. I returned some unused RAM when I was buying other shit. Go to the branch that has the model you want and swap it.

    • He already bought the product he wanted from another store and now wants to return the first item to the first store.

    • Both stores have the one I want in stock but I was in the area of the other MSY store which I purchased the right adapter this time and now I need to return the one I bought by mistake.

I wanted to exchange it but they said I had to go the the store I orginally purchased the adapter from.

  • it really depends on your luck on the store person. Some are sympathetic, but some can be real shockers…..

I agree with 'drdolphin' from above.

  • I've had success with exchanging an open item for another (paid the difference), however it may be more difficult to convince them to refund you.

  • whoa whoa whoa

we are talking about MSY here
since when did they start doing any sort of customer service?

    • I've had no issues with my local (Auburn NSW). Bought a mobo, CPU and RAM from them last year and the computer would either not boot up or not recognise half the RAM.

Took the whole computer there and they were really understanding and helpful. The guy checked with different kits of RAM and determined the RAM was faulty. The same kit was not in stock but he installed another kit (same capacity, different brand) and said not to worry about paying the difference (~$5).

Maybe I just got lucky but I've never had a bad experience there :)

On topic though: I agree with drdolphin - technically they don't have to do anything for you, but might as a gesture of goodwill. Can't hurt to try I guess, good luck!

  • If the item is fully sealed, then most likely MSY will provide a full refund.

If the item is not sealed, then they may charge you a restocking fee.

You need to go back to the original store to process the return because the other store cannot access invoices from the original store you purchased the item from. It is the case for most stores including Harvey Norman and Centrecom. If you want warranty support, then you can go to any MSY store.
