Had nothing but bad luck with HP's bought 3 on one deal here (2-3 years ago) when they were $1399 and we got them for a crazy price $699 from memory (i7's, 8GB etc.) and within a year 2 overheated and die, the 3rd just won't work. But that's just personal experience.

the unibody dv6 by any chance… pretty sure Ive actually got burns from the heat that laptop could produce!

      • At least you get a free egg fryer.

You are correct! I still use one of them for brief email checks and it burns those hairs off alright.

    • I bough one, it's HP 17 inch laptop, cost me 13XX. last just over one year cause by defective GPU made by API. the GPU over heat. ATI give HP (also other company) lot of money to fix the problem, buy HP put every cent in their pocket. they have more than 2000 user post issue on their forum in 2010 (could be more now), HP never reply.

    • I called the customer service, they said their laptop never had GPU over heat problem, just mine, I told him check their own forum, their are 2000+ posts regards to the same issue. the supervisor said he can't see any. what a liar.

      • this one should be a fanless laptop with Intel GPU and will not have such issues

        • Yes, the intel GPU have much less issue

  • my dell vostro 1510 2006? has a processor about as fast, is it really much of an upgrade if I get this or?

    • I also have a 2007 Dell. But it has more RAM than this one. Hard drive will be about as fast.
No, not an upgrade, except battery life. This is not a laptop - it's a big heavy netbook. You can buy tablets with more power (even my phone may have more power), and hook them up to a monitor and keyboard.

  • You get what you par for with this system. Very cheap build. Also very weak display hinge so whoever uses it, better be considerate when opening/closing lid.

Ok for the price if you need it just for office work, provided memory is upgraded to 4GB.

  • Will this be okay for occasional microsoft office, adobe photoshop, illustrator type of work? I plan to use this as mainly as a Plex server and for light surfing and emails etc. thanks.

  • Hp and Compaq ( same factory ) has been famous for notebook casing design flaws that causes overheating issues before 2005 in my case( thats when i bought my compaq ). I ended up drilling holes on the bottom plastic cover to let the heat out and extra air blown in using notebook fan. It is still alive and running well now with temperature dropped from approx 55 - 60 degree down to 35-40 degree celcius.

    • ATI use wrong glue on their GPU, it will damage when the laptop overheat.if yours is not ATI, will be fine, only slow down your laptop.

  • Computer Allience in BNE has it for $249 too

you can replace the single 2gb DDR3SL 1666mhz with a 8gb for about $90 and the HD with an SSD (you would need to CLONE to HD accross, not an easy job to get right), say 256gbDDS another $90-120, so about $200 for something that has 2hr batt life and no gaming (review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaIR8oTg7Lg )

    I would get a 11 or 13" macbook air…
