Do I deserve to be angry?

Hello everyone

I am currently in Tokyo and I bought a Disneysea package from Studentflights at $400. They told me they would be delivered to my apartment (that I rented for a week) 2 days before my ticket date. They did not send it and they only sent me an email 4 hours ago (I am scheduled to go there tomorrow) that they could not deliver my ticket because of issues with their supplier and they will refund my ticket fare and I have to buy at the gate.

Unfortunately this means I end up having to pay $72 extra for 4 people- I bought a package where I get tickets and Fastpass at $100. At the gate, I will have to pay $118. On top of that because they informed me last minute, I decided to stay an extra night at Tokyo just in case there isn't enough tickets for me to get into the theme park tomorrow.

So what do I deserve as compo?

The travel agent already promised a full refund of my ticket (which I definitely deserve because I never got the tickets).
Do I:
1. deserve a $72 compo due to the extra costs I have to pay as a group to get the same tickets?
2. deserve any cost for hotel if I happen to have to stay one extra night in Tokyo (just so I get to go to Disneysea)….

Guys, seriously, we are overseas and we are facing trouble - we have planned our itinerary etc. - we don't appreciate any trolling or mudslinging. Constructive advice please!

Also, any past similar experiences with Studentflights? Are they helpful or are they tight?

Enjoy your holiday, keep your receipts and worry about possible compo later. There is nothing they can/will do now so just enjoy yourself and try not to let it ruin your holiday.

    1. No

    2. No

What makes you think they would run out of tickets? While the situation sucks I doubt you'd get any compo.

I don't think you'll have a chance at the hotel, so avoid doing that if you aren't willing to be out of pocket for it. Wake up early and get in line to have tickets when they open? It is a weekday in winter so doesn't seem like it would be too competitive?

Then complain on the studentflights facebook page, it seems to get responses. Seems poor form if they only gave you notice the night before.

    Angry? Yes.
    Compo? No.

  • I think you are entitled to receive compensation for any costs you incurred that were reasonably foreseeable as a direct result of their breach.
I would think that would extend to the actual cost of the tickets. I doubt it would extend to you booking an extra night accommodation.

    • Depends on the terms and conditions. If it specifically says something about them not being responsible for events such as these and you clicked "I Agree" to buy, you are SOL.

Try being an adult - instead of literally an entitled hipster.

You already said they are giving you a refund. They don't owe you anything else.

You still haven't even been to the destination yourself, yet you want compo?! lol

    Get mad if you want.
You will have to by tickets elsewhere, or post something else on facebook, my entitled friend.

An unfortunate chain of events but I don't think they'd do anything else if they're giving you a refund anyway. BEst you could hope for is some kind of [number]% off for inconvenience if you complain or ask for something else. You deserve to be angry, yes. But as most have pointed out, there's not much they really should give you

Hope you have a good rest of your trip though!

    You can't get "compo"

Do leave negative feedback about the company in relation to your situation (IE. post what happened like this post, not mindless slander) wherever you can…..other than that probably not much you can to unless you chose to follow it up in their chain of command…

  • Maybe your travel insurance will cover these losses?

Guys, seriously, we are overseas and we are facing trouble

Mate… $50 down pp is not facing trouble, get a grip, good bloody grief.

Yes you could have at least given me the benefit of the doubt without being accusatory.

      1. We got interviewed at Narita airport for not having the right visa and was on the verge of being deported.
      2. Lost my Suica card with Yen 5000

We are only on Day 2 in a foreign country - probably panicked a little bit.

      There you go.

With an attitude like that you don’t even deserve to have a good holiday. Why not give it to somebody who will appreciate and not get hung up over a couple lost bucks? Lose the sense of entitlement.

$72 extra for 4 people? That's $18 each? Oh no, trip ruined! 0/10 would not Japan again.

  • Studentflights aren't making money off you anymore, if that makes you feel any better.

The extra money you're paying Disney will support them!

In ways such as, bringing in Emma Watson to star in the Beauty and the Beast.

You deserve to be angry as per your title question.

I personally don't understand why travel agents are still around. It's so much better planning and organising your own trip, probably cheaper as well given the bargains coming from this website. And you have so much more control over every detail, and no reliance on the agent, who frankly, only cares about the sale commission.

    Angry - yes
    Compo - no

Situation sucks, but will only get worse if you get hung up on a relatively small financial hurdle. I find the best way to get past this is to enjoy your holiday, then share your Studentflight experience with friends and family so they don't get stuck in the same situation. In the long run, the cost to Studentflights will far exceed the $72 it's cost you.

Side note: Have you tried visiting local travel agents to see if there are any discounted Disneysea family packages available?

Come on guys. Poor fella is on an overseas holiday (my greatest sympathy) and “facing trouble”. Someone help him get to the embassy so they can fly him home from the trauma.

…I somewhat suspect we are being trolled.

Yes, because you can go judge and jury over my holiday without knowing anything about it.

Good work mate, you are a wonderful human being and a great keyboard warrior. Now time to leave the house!

"Do I deserve to be angry?"

Anger is the thief of time. Chill out, forget about the theme park because its just a bad memory now, forget about compo because it ain't gonna happen, go and do something completely different.

    • Thanks man - great advice :)

go buy a steak in Ginza and then tell us whether $72 is significant any more

  • Enjoy your holiday and don't worry about it. Don't let it ruin your time away.

Wow, I thought this was ozbargain - why are people being so rude to the OP about the lost savings? Don't people come here to look for savings of 10-20$? OP was obviously very excited and now clearly disappointed and therefore reacting/overreacting a bit.

I like what artfuldodger and cupcake have said, don't let anger ruin your holiday!

If you need to save money, don't stay the extra night.. I doubt there will be entry issues to disneysea but there's so much more to see and do in Japan that is much cheaper and more cultural…

  • Perhaps your travel insurance may cover you.
