Free Australian Financial Review (AFR) Using Beta Website

215

Only works for some people, Not sure why yet.

You have unfettered access to the Australian Financial Review using their beta website! Not sure how long this will last for, but thought this is worth sharing till it lasts!

Happy reading!

**EDIT: There is a link at the top of the screen on the afr.com page that says "YOU ARE INVITED TO VIEW THE FINANCIAL REVIEW BETA SITE VIEW NOW", after you click on the view now, the popup screen does not appear, and you are free to move around.

Thanks but doesn't work for me…

    • is the URL of the page you are trying beta.afr.com ? I've had no issues, so keen to hear why it may not work.

Yep,tried beta.afr.com several times and I keep getting a popup over the top of each article asking me to login or subscribe.

      • +1

It keeps telling me to subscribe.

are you sure you're not already logged in or subscribed?

        • I'm not a subscriber. But I just tried accessing it in Incognito mode, and it does come up with the pop up. Whilst in "normal" chrome mode, I have access to all the AFR pages.

        • @pgkenya: Do you have the free summertime access thing that was going around earlier in the year?

  • +2

Tried Chrome and IE, even in incognito mode and still doesn't work, asks to subscribe.

    Bargain Busted.

  • Not working get popup to subscribe.

  • Works fine for me as well via Chrome browser on both PC and phone

  • how is it working for you guys?

There is a link at the top of the screen that says "YOU ARE INVITED TO VIEW THE FINANCIAL REVIEW BETA SITE
VIEW NOW", after you click on the view now, the popup screen does not appear, and you are free to move around.

    • Yes! That did come up initially for me. Thanks Nats, I'll add this to the blurb up the top of this page.

    • Tried that as well but still not working for me…

      • Same. can't get it to work unfortunately. Been looking at getting an AFR subscription lately.

  • There is a free offer of the digital edition of the AFR, its available probably for another month http://afr.com/summer this is probably the promo the people are on who are able to access the beta for free.

EDIT: Ok on another note, it maybe possible to access the beta for free if you are blocking pop ups, it looks like the articles are showing underneath the paywall.

It could also have something to do with if you have a fairfax account, as you would already be able to access the AFR site.

  • worked for me. use adblocker in google.

    • I have been, doesn't work for me.

Works for me (Chrome with HTTPS Everywhere, AdBlock and Disconnect Extensions). Somewhat annoyed as I'm already a paid up subscriber!

HTTPS is the key - did not work for me until I added https:// in front.

      • Good tip saffers - adding https prevents Chrome loading scripts from unauthorised sources unless you explicitly allow it to. This seems to stop the popup from loading, adblock wasn't blocking for me. Cheers

  • It is free anyway for anther 4 days

  • Works in IE for me, but doesn't work in Firefox (normal or private modes).

  • working, cheers

Works for me in Firefox + adblock-plus

  • It worked. Nice find

  • You can also just hit the stop loading page button in Chrome after you click on an article link to stop the pop-up appearing.

    • confirmed works in FF too. A lot of effort, just read it for free somewhere else lol.

  • Works for me, tried using from Firefox browser

Edit: only headline, no detailed view of the article
