Potentially $0.00 for Phone Unlocking Otherwise Pay $7.99US

30

Ok so here how it works

I brought a Huawei Ascend Y550 phone locked to Vodafone for my daughter on Sunday https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/171665
I paid $89.00 with the $50 included.
Phone locked to Voda they wanted $75 to unlock from their unlocking website.

Went locking for a cheap place to unlock (did think of Bagman but me being tight i wanted free)
Came across a youtube video for unlocking a Huawei for free. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWSraEzrO38

Step 1 Go to www.freeunlocks.com and select mobile phone brand and model
Step 2 Pay using Trialpay
Step 3 Complete an offer. (most need you to select some type of trial. I choose Quickflix)
Step 4 Follow the signup procedure for 30 day trial. (Does need credit card details)
Step 5 Wait for confirmation email from freeunlock (I Waited about an hr)
Step 6 Log in with details provided where you then provide your IMEI model and carrier and submit to freeunlock
Step 7 Wait for unlock code (about 30 mins)
Step 8 Put in foreign sim card to get lock display screen and insert code
Step 9 Log into your recently created Quickflix account and cancel subscription

Free phone unlock = Happy dad and happy daughter

Unfortunately the Nokia 530 is not supported.

EDIT: Oops, read title properly.. :)

Sorry! Unfortunately we do not currently have a way to unlock your particular device at this time!

    • Thanks for asking my question for me!

    • Thanks from me as well.. I did read in the desc though.. but Thanks anyway)

  • Yep, no problem at all, just put in my personal details, complete a 30 day sign-up with my credit card, get the unlock number, cancel the sign-up. Got it. What on earth could go wrong?

What wonderful public spirited people, to do all this for free.

No different to signing up to any site on the net. I chooses Quickflix as I had a account with them previously and there a reputable company.

      • +7

        and there a reputable company.

        Where?

  • Tried to unlock Vodafone Nokia 208 and got this msg…………Unfortunately, we do not currently have a tool available to unlock your device. • +1 to try the Vodafone website.

Despite the fee mentioned on Vodafone website, all Vodafone post paid phones can be unlock for free using their website. (see http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/phone_unlocking).

Considering -1 the OP since could have used the vodafone website without all the run around for free, but reserving since I am not 100% on this.

        • +3

Umm… This is a prepaid phone!

        • Hence why I put not 100% sure. The unlock worked free for my pre-paid, went through the steps it never prompts for payment.

See below link also, in the comments others had the success with their locked prepaid Lumia 630 around a month ago.

If you are willing to jump through hoops as in the OP, the Vodafone website is worth a shot IMHO.

          Must of missed this bit
Phone locked to Voda they wanted $75 to unlock from their unlocking website.

        • @fourofjacks:
Your link to whirlpool for free post-paid unlocking, takes us back to the same Vodafone unlocking site the OP went to first but it wanted to charge $75 to unlock. That's pointless.

Of course first try the Vodafone unlock site, as all but 1 of my Vodafone phones & modems were free to unlock immediately, or by requesting the unlock code if unavailable. Older phones are usually free, but new ones usually cost.

This information is usually posted on Vodafone prepaid phone deals anyway.

        • All post paid phones are already unlocked or can be unlocked for free from the respective carrier. Carriers only charge for pre-paid.

        • @Regie69: have

      • Yeah tried that but don't want pay $25 unlocking fee to Vodafone.

complain about your phone, then here's a pager. you would be sooo unique and different from the herd.

    • The real question is, where did OP take it to???

      • In relation to what?

    • +2

either daughter is young or she was like "um yeah dad, ive always wanted a huawei, my friends gunna be so jelly"

Hopefully not so young that she still gets a thrill from using the avatar of a 12 year old Japanese anime figure.

  • This is not free, I get paid to work.
