Gillette Mach3 Turbo Blades from Catch of The Day

Hi everyone,

So about 1-2 months ago I purchased some Gillette Mach3 Turbo blades from Catch of the Day. There was a promo and I bought 8 blades for $5 delivered. I started using them a few weeks ago and noticed how blunt they were and the overall poor quality compared to the same blades I buy at Woolies or Coles.

Anyway out of curiosity I went to my local shaver shop to query the blunt/poor quality blades. I told them I purchased them online and they asked me to bring in any remaining blades/packaging.

Long story short, when I brought them in to get assessed it turns out the blades are fake, most likely imported from China.

Has anyone else experienced this with shaving blades purchased from Catch of the Day?

    Woah. Thats deplorable.

I realized last year that stocking up on blades was just not worth it, by the time I got to the end - even new blades from a fresh pack would hurt my face.

Then tried the dollar shave club.

Totally with you there mate, I have to stay clean shaven for work, my options were to either replace my razor cartridge once a week, resulting in paying $15 month, or $180 a year, or to try an make a cartridge last a few weeks, and having hideous razor burn.

I just got a double edge safety razor, the shaves are amazing. I actually enjoy shaving now, no more cuts, bumps or redness. And its so much cheaper, I can replace a blade every three to four days, and it'll only cost me $21 for a WHOLE year!

  • Yeah these blades are always "compatible" not genuine. They are rubbish and should never be used.

But if they are "branded" Gillette then surely it is illegal to sell a counterfeit item within aust as such. COTD need to be reported to DOFT on this one as COTD are not making any effort to confirm if their product is genuine before sale.

I bought some Schick shavers from them recently but have not tried them yet. I hope they are not the same sort of garbage?

The problem is with proving it. I asked shaver shop if they could write any letter so that I could use it make a complaint. The sales person said they don't get into matters like this and that I would need to contact a supplier or Gillette and have them assess the product. They even said they get people coming in everyday complaining about shaver blades purchased online which turn out to be fake.

At the end of the day for me personally it seems more trouble than it is worth especially seeing as I spent $5 only. I just know not to buy from them again.

The more I think about it, I don't see how they could possibly make any money if they are selling them for $5 including shipping without them being fake.

I had similar experience from Shavers Shop from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135717. The Blades were blunt. Normally it is Gillette Australia label on back but on these blades were Gillette Ireland. Some of those blades had bad shave even first time. Complete waste of money but good lesson.

  • Same with blades purchased at Giant Chemist in Harbour town. Think these were a faulty batch, quality failed or a parallel import. They were gillette turbo's or similar with a grey plastic trim. Not sure of the price but they were much cheaper than usual.

  • So what's the best quality source of these that isn't fake but is a reasonable price?

  • Has anyone else experienced this with shaving blades purchased from Catch of the Day?

were they local stock or parallel import? cotd sell both with the latter identified as such in the item description - i've only bought the former which were genuine :)
