  • Had problems with spin tel not honouring the referral credit and disconnecting from them was a massive hassle that I had to cancel the bank card to stop them charging me even with confirmation of disconnection.
Also there is a 25$ setup fee.

    IMO go with aldi

  • Nice! Just what I needed.
    Expiry date of offer?

    • Monday 16/02/2015

      • That's right the offer ends on Monday 16/02/2015

        • i just spent half an hour signing up and arrive at the end of the application to find that the code is already expired? was it supposed to expire at 11:59pm sunday 15/02/2015? (i.e. before monday 16/02/2015?)

        • Worked for me mate. Make sure you don't have spaces before and/or after.

I would touch these guys even if they dangled Free infront of it. I signed up last week and wanted to speak to someone regarding my connection date. I spent nearly 4 hours on the phone (on hold). No one called me back until I got a hold of their Online sales chat people.

At that point I was so fed up that I told them I want to cancel my order as no action has been taken (according to the tracker).

They refused this until I said I will be reporting them to the ombudsmen.

        the ombudsmen

        All of them?

And then you sign up, but they still charge you. Then you call them, wait ten minutes and leave your number for a call back. You get a call back the next day when you're at work and call them again and leave your number. rinse and repeat.

Finally you get to talk to someone in the Philippines who says they will request your account to be credited. 1 week later you're back to where you should be in the first place without the hassle.

Service is good though. Can't fault them there.

    • Hey,

If you were charged incorrectly you will be able to get that fix on your bill. You can private message our Facebook page with the details if you wish. I can follow this up for you once you've done this.

      Gina

      • Maybe you shouldn't have charged me in the first place along with many others. We all know how it works. Charge everyone and hope the majority don't realise and pay anyways.

You really wanna make up for it? Then offer me additional credit for your stuffs up.

And just so everyone knows you have to change your plan every month as once your bumped up it stays that way unless you change it back.

Seriously stay away from spintel. To many convenient stuff ups. Mobile network Service might be good, but I'll be switching away.

        • Hi,

Unfortunately, if we're not alerted to mistakes they can't be rectified. However, we're always happy to fix our mistakes. The data bumping is designed that way as a feature based off your usage.

          Gina

        • @SpinTel: you shouldn't have let it happen in the first place. Just to get a hold of someone is a major inconvenicence with your company. The outcome was I got what I was entitled to after hours of calls.

You think that's good enough? Certainly not.

Can I ask that people please PM one person at a time to request a referral. Give them a little while to respond before PMing others. We have limited referrals to give, and it doesn't help when they are all taken up by someone who has already received a referral from other user.

Also, we need a name and either a phone number or email address to be able to refer you.

  • AHHH! I signed up and paid $25 on yesterday and received the new SIM today! I should have waited another day!

  • +1

Seriously not recommend use this rubbish company, as I contacted with their customer service online, over 3 weeks can not reconnect my ADSL. and they wont contact you the service progress; anyway the worst adsl company in Australia, as my existing dodo is much batter than this SPINTEL,

    Avoid; Avoid; Avoid;…….

    • Their mobile department I think is different to their internet.

Had no issues with service or billing or getting a response. They usually respond very promptly to Facebook I found.

Definitely much better than Vaya in terms of service. Moved all 4 of my services from Vaya to them with no regrets.

Happy to give out referrals if required - just PM me.

  • i am with spintel.. the helpdesk was ingenious and charged me for activation when it was supposed to be free. uses optus 4g..no issues with reception so far..

    • HI,

If you would like me to look at your account I can get someone to rectify the charges. Simply message us via our Facebook page.

      Gina

  • Hmmmm. So I am looking to move away from Vaya but the comments on here are troubling. After putting up with a lot of Vaya crap, if I had to choose between SpinTel or Telechoice, what would ppl recommend?

    • Hey Kati,

Until this Monday SpinTel have a special offer of $25 credit on your first month bill. Simply put FaceBook_Install in the promotional code when signing up.

      Gina

  • Major international congestion in anything that isn't absolute off-peak time, and it has been like this for at least 2 years. And it affects every state, in particular QLD.

Here are the stats from youtube quality report, no isp has more congestion than spintel. The speed should not be changing that dramatically based on the time of day.
    http://i.imgur.com/APrDGdw.png

Eventually I had to leave to get any kind of streaming media to work. When I changed isps my problems went away entirely.

Stay, away, at least for ADSL2+. For them to allow this problem to continue for such a long amount of time, despite many many different people complaining and asking for help from customer service, it shows they are not a competent telecom in the slightest and anyone would be better off going with dodo.
I would hate to think what they would be like with a postpaid mobile account…

    • Postpaid mobile is pretty good. I must agree with you regarding the internet. It sucks so badly that sometimes i can't even stream youtube and various porn sites. I'm going to get on the phone with them right now and complain.

Any reason why spintel is more congested than other lines? I thought all isp's use the same line and whatnot?

      • +1

Basically every isp has their own internal network routing, where they buy certain amounts of bandwidth from different fibre sources and transfer your data through. That's why every isp can differ greatly. The line is the same though yes, no drop outs or lower sync issues on that.

        They aren't buying enough bandwidth.

        • Cheers for the clarification. I'm in an ADSL area, not ADSL2. Does the same reasoning still apply?

        • +1
        • @musicinbed69: Thanks for that.

Are you sure the promo can be used together with referral?

    • That's what the customer rep told me today when I signed up 4 services with them.

    • Hi,

The refer a friend credit can still be applied, however bare in mind it will appear on your third bill.

      Gina

  • One of the cheaper resellers … and I like the fact that you pretty much avoid the bill shock problem with them. Very innovative concept. KB billing is pretty fair. Don't expect a lot of support for that price … the connection speed ($G Optus) seems to be fine and I haven't heard any problems.

Some customers get the bill from order date instead of activation date … so there is a little issue. After that I haven't heard of a lot of billing issues like Vaya.
Be aware that the first month is prorata … ($ and usage) so you might get bumped fairly quickly …

No sign up fee makes it a nice deal ./..

again I think we're seeing the distinction between using them for ADSL and for mobile. feedback for their mobile service seems to be a hell of a lot better than for their ADSL service.

just signed up - been sitting on my thumbs about signing up since letting my rage about Vaya fester for the last few days - so thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks, just signed up to get away from that Live Connected $20 security deposit rubbish.

I PM'd someone for a referral link, and the e-mail says there is a $25 referral credit: "Josh has referred you to SpinTel because they believe you would be interested in our Internet and phone plans. If you sign up with SpinTel, you and Josh will both receive a credit of up to $25 off your bill."

Also used the ‘FaceBook_Install’ code which was accepted, so hopefully I will get a $50 credit on my account.

    • no you only get $25 credit if you ported a range of things over. the referral credit for transferring a mobile service is $10.

    • -1

I see you completely disregarded my request above.
      Thanks for that.

We just transferred out our 3 numbers from them, It took us literally 100+ calls and two weeks and many many hours waiting on the phone until someone from support took our calls to cancel our service. Unbelievable …

    • Why would you bother? May as well just have ported your numbers out to another carrier, this effectively ends your relationship with your current provider. Unless you are referring to landlines?

      • I bought 3 sims, I transferred out two, one was for a family member who was visiting AU temporary and that was the one I was trying to cancel

  • I have been spintel for a few years. No major complaints but the support call wait time is very long.

  • Ive got the adsl service and I think it's great. No complaints from me.

I switched my mobile from Telstra to Spintel a couple of months ago. It took a while for the sim to arrive (maybe 8 or 9 days), then I just had to log in to the activation page they told me to go to, hit activate and my new sim was up and running within an hour - this was on a Saturday too.

As far as service goes, I honestly haven't noticed a difference compared to when I was on Telstra (that is, it's very good). I'm in metro Brisbane.

My monthly bill has gone from $70 down to around $22-28 depending on my usage that month. If you can keep your data below 2.5GB it's fantastic value for money.

All in all a fantastic experience. I've read so many horror stories from people on Spintel ADSL, it almost seems like 2 completely separate companies.

    • even over 2.5gb, the fact that they only charge $15 per GB is a really good deal.

      • $15? I swear it used to be $10

  • Should OP be getting neg's based in the company's service. A bargain's a bargain.

    • Yes. Service is related to product.

      • Well I think someone needs to go and start OzService. Just because someone doesn’t like the product doesn’t mean it’s not a bargain. Hell nothing would be a bargain as there’s always someone who doesn’t like that airline or this washing detergent. Save the negs for the deal not the product.

      • Nevertheless, you did say a couple of times above that their mobile service is good.

It looks to me that they have a lot less problems than Vaya which is where I ported from. The SpinTel WP thread is nearly a year old and contains 67 pages
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2230265

whereas the current Vaya WP thread is at 63 pages and is only a week old.

  • I check my ozbargain messages frequently if anyone needs referral. Link is in the referral thread as per the rules. Spintel is great once it's all set up. Pain in the ass before then!

    • Set up for me was a breeze. Ordered SIM Monday night, received it in mail on Wednesday, activated and ported within a couple of hours with all services working. Porting was from Aldi (Telstra) which probably explains why it was quick.

I also received good service from their sales people. They rang me to let me know of this Valentine's Day promo after I had been talking with them earlier trying to get the startup fee waived.

I've ordered 4 more SIMs for the rest of the family, 3 of which are for mobiles with Vaya. Hopefully, they will also port quickly but I know that it will probably take a couple of days being Optus to Optus.

  • Thanks, OP. I just signed up after a few months on Aldi mobile after leaving liveconnected last year.

  • Please stay away from Spintel. Their services were really bad. I tried to cancel the contract, provided 30 days notice and they still charge me after the cancellation date.

So far I called four times to enquiry the cancellation progress and they always ask me to wait for 2 more business days before the account can be finalized.

I am on direct debit and they do not allow to cancel direct debit. This means my account will be charged automatically…

How difficult to say goodbye to Spintel.

    • If you think I am an isolated case, please search Whirlpool and see how other users experienced.

With Spintel ADSL2+, I cannot watch Youtube, the speed is so slow.

      My advice:stay away.

  • 5 days after activating my sim… I'm still waiting for my service to be connected.
