Found this on COTD thought it might be a bargain as static ice's lowest price is $132 ex shipping. I found a previous post over a month a go for $129 + shipping. I might consider one as shipping is decent

  • I have one of these, sadly I didn't get it this cheap( the best I've seen is about $130). The benefit of this over others of their type is that it has Australian developers that are very active on their forums and regularly update the firmware. For me it was this or go to something dearer like WDTV which has recently got network ability.

I purchased from COTD a few weeks ago at $127 + shipping, so it's a good deal and a good product.

  • does wdtv do mkv h.264???

    • read the post above and the description on the astone page. it says H.264 AVC (TS / AVI / MKV / MOV)

    • of course

  • i know the astone does i was asking wdtv… i googled it and yes it does

    • sorry. my bad. not had my morning coffee as yet. both wdtv and astone do. but the astone has network capabilities

      • and the astone is cheaper, will be a better product if it has the same capabilities as WDTV in playing media files.

  • im bout to buy 2 one for a mate.. what capabilities are they excite??? this will be an upgrade from my xbox xbmc as it doesnt play back mkv h.264. Thing i really like about this is the ethernet as im setting up a raid nas 8x1.5tb… i just dont like cheap products with crap UI… i bought a dvx pvr its got great functions but ui sux which kills it for me

    • Ok the UI is not marvelous but it's improving. Certainly is never going to be as good as a media PC, with Boxee, WMC, or xbmc. I wish it was but none of these units will maybe ever be as good.

  • The new model AP-110 come out, that's the reason the older model is getting cheap, but same playback capabilities.

  • +1

ive already ordered 2 units to find out it doesnt support dts downmix… what a bummer… transcoding the audio will have to be my option now until they decide to do a fw upgrade with this support…

    • +1

dts downmix is limited by hardware, can't update through firmware, if you really need this feature, wait for AP-110.

    • If you really want high quality audio, just buy a amplifier, you do not want to pass the dts audio to your TV speaker, do you?

  • how long warranty for this?

  • well i'll be playing this on an old crt tv so i'll have no spiff connection or anything…
