Let's hope it's as good as the epic $1 Herald Sun Subscription with free $40 Rebel Card.

Haha was just thinking that! I dunno, that was easier to cancel :S

Edit - Signed up anyway ;)

  • +1

Oh, reminds me my $1… $40 Rebel Card

  • In what way does using PayPal make it easier to cancel? I might be missing something here.

    • +2

Turn off subscription renewal in your settings.

  • Digital gift cards can be printed at home or shown on a smartphone at time of use.

Paying for your meal with a stack of printouts will be the new trend.

  • +1

"Subscriptions automatically renew onto the full price amount monthly without further notice unless cancelled at any time by calling 13 66 66."

Nahhh, they're making it more difficult to cancel it now. I think they've learned their lesson from that last promo lol.

    • +3

Pay with Paypal, cancel the authorisation through Paypal, they'll never get another cent :)

    • +1

You can cancel your subscription by calling Fairfax Media Subscriber Services on 13 66 66 or submitting a request at https://support.fairfaxmedia.com.au/hc/en-gb/requests/new

Digital subscriptions are non-refundable. When you cancel, we will stop billing from your next payment cycle. You may notify us of your intent to cancel at any time - the cancellation will become effective at the end of your current billing period so you can continue to enjoy full access and benefits until then.

      Should be fine

    • +2

If you are refering to the rebel sport deal that was news corp, this is fairfax

  • thanks OP!!! This deal is awesome!!! :))))

  • +7

The only problem is you have to subscribe to The Age.

  • Anyone interested in an anti-(insert publisher) circle-jerk? It's a must with any newspaper thread.

  • I'm getting "There has been an error. Please try again or contact customer service." :( Anyone else came across the same problem?

    • i got that message when i tried to pay using my personal paypal for my partners (after I did mine subscription first) and it failed with the same message you received. Then I tried another paypal account and it worked fine.

  • +1

still havent received my goodguys voucher since the last debacle with the Herald sun =.=

  • yes, koreainhyuk, I have been having the same issue. Maybe they are trying to stop all the payments through paypal, maybe Fairfax are noticing that preauthorisations are being cancelled straight after purchasing the sub.

    • Worked for me, time to sub everyone in the household.

  • Might try it on a different computer and see what happens.

  • Yes, working now.

  • Thanks neil.

  • +1

Received some confirmation from Good Food Customer Service

You cannot combine balance from multiple cards into one. You can use multiple card to pay to a bill.

    Sub away people :)

    • thanks heaps for the tip! how many sub's you doing?

  • Looks like the deal is over!? When I click the link, the Good Food promotion doesnt show up anymore!

    • +1

Still works for me on 2 different browsers.

      • oh yeah thanks, new browser helped - I may have just loaded the subscribe page without clicking through here! sorry! :)

  • pretty sure this is not such a good deal as you think. I think that the minimum subscription is 3 months at $7.50/month. So you can cancel, but you will pay $22.50 and get a $40 card. A good deal for sure, but as I read it you can't just pay $7.50 and get a $40 card. I may well be wrong about this, but that's the way I read it.

    • Well, no-one knows for sure, but the deals says you can cancel anytime. I think that's why there are people recommending you pay with PayPal so that you can cancel your subscription after less than one month, ie so they don't just keep charging you, like they could probably do if you paid with your credit card.

    • +2

It's not a minimum subscription of 3 months. It's the Age that is giving you 50% off for the first 3 months, then back to regular price of $15 for website access. It's monthly billing.

      • Did you get yours Neil?

        • Nah, not interested in any of the places on the Good Food Card.

  • when do you get the good food card?

    • $40 Good Food Gift Card in electronic form only and is redeemable via Good Food email sent up to 10 days after subscribing

    • See original post:

Good Food Gift Card in electronic form only and is redeemable via Good Food email sent up to 10 days after subscribing, must redeem within a month from email send and then valid for 1 year at participating restaurants.

  • Hi all

Do you know what is the email address they sent with this giftcard?

    sam

  • Has anyone gotten their Good Food gift card yet?

    • Not yet for me

    • I am also waiting… :O

    • Same here. I think today is the 9th day already. :/

      • Call them up. They'll send a request through manually, then it takes some time. Still haven't got mine yet.

  • Contacted The Age by the online request form recently. This was their response:

Thank you for contacting Fairfax Media.

I'm sorry to hear if you haven't received the $40 Good Food Gift Card yet. We already notified our Marketing Team about this. You should get the Gift Card within 24-48 hours and it will be sent via email.

We apologise for any inconvenience it has caused you.

Please feel free to visit www.support.fairfaxmedia.com.au or contact us at 13 66 66. Our operating hours are 7am-7pm Monday to Friday and 7am-12:30pm on Weekends & Public Holidays.

    Regards,

    • I was told that two days ago. Still haven't got it.

      • I won't hold my breath then, but looks like we're all in the same boat!

  • Has anyone gotten their gift card at all?

    • Despite contacting them and getting a response from the Age (above) that the gift card would be sent by email to me by now… Still nothing! I actually called them up two days ago too, and they were pretty much unhelpful and told me they had no idea of when I was to expect the gift cards.

  • +1

I subscribed on 16 February and still haven't received the gift card. I talked to a rep over online chat and he's forwarding the case to the marketing team. I also tweeted Good Food Gift Card to see if they can help. I'm still waiting for an answer.

  • same here.. subscribed on 17th feb, still cant see anything in my email, also the Fairfax Media link is not working from IMISSBEANS.

  • no gift card here either

  • +2

OK, just called The Age again today and asked them about the gift card. They told me there was an error in their system with the gift cards being sent out, however I should expect to receive my gift card by Friday 6 March. They told me there were a lot of complaints about not receiving the gift card by now.

    • why can't any aussie company actually deliver what they promise instead of weaselling out of everything like a bunch of weasels?

they always blame the "marketing department". and the marketing department always blames an "error in the system". nobody takes responsibility for anything any more.

    • lets set a dead line and lodge a complaint to ACCC.

  • +1

Ah, memories of the Rebel Sport deal again! Over-promise, under-deliver, but when you finally see that email it will be like Christmas!

  • contacted them using imissbeans' link above and this is the reply i got today:

Thank you for contacting Fairfax Media.

    We apologise for the inconvenience.

We will escalate this issue to our Circulations team so you can receive your Good Food Gift Card.

Please feel free to visit http://support.fairfaxmedia.com.au or contact us at 13 66 66.
Our operating hours are 7am-7pm Monday to Friday and 7am-12:30pm on Weekends & Public Holidays.

    Thank you,

    • "We will escalate this issue to our Circulations team"
"We already notified our Marketing Team about this"

these drongos are just making this stuff up.

"Enjoy a $40 Good Food Gift Card to use at a range of Restaurant Express eateries across the city during the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival." (27 FEB - 15 MAR)

"Spanning the legends of The Age Good Food Guide, this series (the Restaurant Express Signature Series) sees each venue serve up a two-course lunch — including their signature dish — with a specially matched beverage, all for just $40.00."

the festival will be over before they get these cards out. (yes, I know you can use the cards later at a much more limited number of restaurants, but they were specifically advertising them for use during the festival with restaurants offering $40 specials).

  • Has anyone cancelled their PayPal subscriptions? I might wait until 6 March and see if they actually fulfill. I recall lodging a payment dispute and cancelling my subscription for the Rebel deal early on as that took them months to fulfill.

    • +1

      Yep already cancelled

      • is it safe to wait almost a whole month before cancelling?

(ie. will the 2nd month's subscription be billed exactly one month after the original subscription ?)

        • Why bother? Cancelling through Paypal just means they cant get a cent, but they wont actually know they cant get the money until they go to process it

        • "Why bother?"

I was worried that they'll get a message saying the paypal authorization has been cancelled. I don't want them to know I have cancelled until after I have received the gift card. (in case they try to use that as an excuse not to send the card)

    • I want to but, despite finding that -$7.50 in my paypal's recent activities, the preapproved setting section is empty, it contains no subscription service. I know where the preapproval setting is (although it is hard to find in paypal) because I cancelled a subscription not long ago.

So do you guys actually see a preapproval subscription there in paypal?

      • The ongoing charges are considered a pre-approved payment plan which is in another link, hope that makes sense!

        • Yeah, can't remember where it is but I know it's in another section

      • +1

On the the usual pre-approved payment page, just above the payment list should say something along the line of "can't find what you want? Try preapproved plan or login to paypal". That's what you're after. Was the case for me.

        • I'm sure you're right! That's where it was for me too!

        • Cheers, I'd missed that and they nearly got me for more money! Cant have that now can we!

  • Thanks for letting me know you cancelled Spaceback! I might do that! Surely they will still have to fulfill! I actually recall getting the $1 refunded from that Rebel deal too, as well as the gift card!

    • +2

I think I got the same, not sure, was a long time ago :P But I'm pretty sure I cancelled that a day or 2 before they were due to take it out, but as I said above, it doesn't matter when you do it, as long as you do it!

  • +1

    Just got this email:

    Dear imissbeans

As part of your subscription to The Age we’ve included a $40 Good Food Digital Gift Card for you to enjoy at participating restaurants.

Go to http://goodfoodgiftcard.com.au/redeem/fairfax and enter the code below to redeem your gift digital card.

Your unique code must be redeemed online by 5/04/2015.

Thanks for subscribing to The Age.

    Regards,
    The Age Subscriptions

Edit: I might add that my partner also subscribed at the same time, did not contact them about the gift card and did not receive the gift card yet.

    • Just tried to claim the gift card on the website provided and am getting an error message " there was an error while processing your request " Ie code doesn't work.

      • Had to call them up and somehow got it working. For some reason, couldnt redeem it from my mobile phone.

  • +1

Just received the $40 good food card.. check your junk mail guys

    • Did you also contact them, same as imissbeans?

      • Yes… contacted them using imissbeans link, also rang them.

        good luck.

  • Still nothing here :(

    • Might want to send them a request to ask them about the cards. My partner didnt do that and still no sign of the gift card! Shouldn't have to do that but you know how it goes with some of these promos!

      • Yeah I did just after posting that, figured it might give them a nudge!

        • Or you can call Good Food Gift Cards 1300 834 577 and they will be able to tell you more about the gift cards and when you should receive them.

        • I just called them and they were unable to help. Was told that I should contact theage as they are the one who will be sending the gift cards.

        • @cgunawan: sorry about that! When I dis speak with them yesterday they were happy to talk to about the gift card. But in saying that it's still unresolved for my partner's one!

        • @imissbeans:
Just received both mine and my partner's after 4 phone calls over the past week. Now need to cancel both subsriptions.

  • +1

I just received mine in my junk mail, I did contact them

  • Got mine today! (I called them, emailed them and cancelled the paypal direct debit)

  • Haven't received anything yet - just got off live chat with them where they claimed it had been sent already and to check my junk mail but then the story changed that it hadn't been.

Reminds me of the Rebel sport deal exactly but it's a completely different company. Maybe they hope that people will just forget. It's pretty silly if to actually get it you have to ask.

    • it's like the old mail-in rebates in the USA.

advertise something really great, then make people jump through hoops and wait ages to get it.

the company hopes that most people wont even bother chasing it up, or just eventually give up because it becomes to hard to claim.

  • They said they had an error in their system so my email address was not added on their 'list' lol. It appears all the subscribers will have to call back in order to enable this gift card to be emailed out. They said it will be emailed to me after "3 working" days.

  • Still nothing here :(

  • received an email with a good food gift card link. i had to chat to them to get it sent through

    • How long did it take for it to come through after talking to them?

      • It took up to 3 business days to receive mine after placing a request through!

  • +1

They are pretty useless. Rang them earlier this week. They said they'd be sending something out, but still nothing. Bordering on deceptive conduct IMO - Only sending out gift cards after they make people fight for it (assuming I'll get mine). Imagine all the people who won't go through the hassle…

  • Although I received my gift card, this was sent to my partners account who hasnt received their gift card after making a web enquiry:

Thank you for contacting Fairfax Media.

I'm sorry if you haven't received your $40 Good Food Gift card yet.

Based on our records, the promotion that you subscribed with doesn't comes with the free Gift card. You are currently subscribed to Website Access in which you are under the promotion of 50% off per month for the next 6 months.

I hope this information assist you.

Please feel free to visit www.support.fairfaxmedia.com.au or contact us at 13 66 66. Our operating hours are 7am-7pm Monday to Friday and 7am-12:30pm on Weekends & Public Holidays.

Im fairly sure I clicked the link here and subscribed for the $7.50 for 3 months and if you read the terms, the good food gift card is for all new subscribers anyway.

    • +1

Yep, all of them came with the card. I haven't heard anything from Saturday, when they said they'd passed it on to Marketing and I'd hear back within 24-48hrs. Emailed back last night, let's see how long this takes!

      • Hopefully you get your gift card! Let us know when you get it!!

Not sure what I'll do with this, maybe call them and talk to one of their lovely American call centre operators.

        • "We send a follow up email to our Marketing Team, so they can action on this accorfingly"

No contact info provided for them, just a follow up email sigh

  • considering that they are selling something that you can get for free (a news website) for $15/month, the level of service provided is bloody hopeless.

my card eventually showed up without any apology or explanation.

no apology or other compensation for not meeting their terms and conditions, and the food and wine festival (where you can make the most use out of the card) is almost over (only 1 weekend left out of 3).

restaurants have specifically put on $40 menus and advertised in conjunction with this. who knows how much business (and potential repeat business) they have lost because of this stuff up?

  • Emailed them 2 days ago, still nothing. Think I better call.
