$180 more and you get full Australian warranty and ACCC (whatever their new name is) protection, you don't have to deal with DWI and you don't have to worry about customs duty. If I was in the market for one I think I would go with jvhifi.

      • This. Though I think Surface Pro 3, at least the tablet/laptop, comes with Global Warranty. I'd rather buy from Australia though since accessories like pen and chargers are under local warranty I think.

        jvhifi, you've done it again!

  • only 10!

How about import duty. After duty I guess it is the same as AUS version

    • How about import duty. After duty I guess it is the same as AUS version

      No import duty.

GST is payable as it is over $1000.

Why I am the only one feeling expensive?

    $1869 + 5% Import duty + 10% GST = $2158 + min 2 weeks wait + enjoy pulling your hair if it is DOA

      $1869 + 5% Import duty + 10% GST = $2158 + min 2 weeks wait + enjoy pulling your hair if it is DOA

I agree that there is too much risk for little if any saving. However, there is no 5% import duty on computer equipment. Only the GST and perhaps a clearance fee if one uses an agent for the paperwork.

There is NO IMPORT DUTY ON COMPUTERS, COMPUTER PARTS, OR COMPUTER SOFTWARE.

There is GST payable of importations of $1000 or more.

Why neg my comment? Just because you do not like paying GST is not a valid reason to neg the truth.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 mobile phone from Digital World International of Hong Kong (Dwidigitalcameras.com.au) on 11.04.2014. This mobile and my subsequent dealings with DWI have been a disaster. From the start, the mobile was not able to switch between 3G and 4G networks. I contacted them via their website and they asked me to troubleshoot which I did without success. They then tol d me to send the phone back to them. They returned it several weeks later and told me that it was fixed. But this was only the start of the problems.
Randomly, incoming calls could not be answered because the screen froze. I contacted them. Again we went through the troubleshooting exercise without success. Again they asked me to send it back to them. They returned it after several weeks and assured me that the problem was fixed. However within two days the problem occurred again. I send it back. They returned it after several more weeks and said it was fixed 100%. The problem re-occurred and we went through the same thing. This time they claimed to have replace the motherboard. Before I got the phone back I asked them for a refund as I had realised by then that it was unfit for purpose. They offered me only AUD$225.50 which I rejected because I had purchased it for AUD$622.!!
The phone came back and within a few days I realised that there is now a signal problem with the phone which prevents me from receiving some incoming calls and making some outgoing calls. To prove that the fault is with the phone, I moved my SIM card to another phone and I didn't have the problem. Today, I have complained to DWI about this problem as well.
The end result is that I have not had a satisfactory mobile for 10 months . I have had the inconvenience of having to contact DWI on numerous occasions and of having to send and collect the phone, each time being assured that it has been fixed, only to find that problems continue.
In the circumstances, I regard the so-called refund which they offered as an insult. It is obvious that DWI treat their customers very poorly. I strongly advise that you do not deal with them.

The perils of being a private importer of (perhaps) non-compliant mobile 'phones, with no local manufacturers warranty, and no protection under Australian Consumer Protection Legislation.

There has to be a very big saving in order to make the risk worthwhile.
