      It clearly says electrical plier…

Anyone know what these are like? Just looking at pliers to throw in the back of a 4by and not worry about losing in the mud/river etc.

So it won't cut my steam powered ones then… :(

      • Can't find any reviews on them… Ecco seems like a bit of a no-name brand

Everyone, remember that you should almost NEVER cut a wire which is live. The 1000V rating is to protect you against faulty equipment, which might leave a line live after you have taken the normal steps to turn it off.

The only times I've ever heard of someone cutting live wires, is when they were re-wiring part of the radio rack in a search-and-rescue building. Obviously they didn't want the radios disabled while the re-wiring was done, and the electrician double- and triple-checked EVERYTHING for every wire he had to cut.

I've got a nice set of linesman's pliers with a big chunk missing from the wire-cutting part. That happened when the previous owner of the pliers made a mistake, and tried to cut through a live mains cable. I don't know if they were injured, but where I found the pliers was a long way from the mains cables.

Unless you are an international spy defusing a bomb…

      • In which case you should only cut the red wire. Or is it the blue wire? Uhhh…

        • Red is the new brown…

i can personally vouch for this, after asking my partner if the wire was not live, i cut the wire, there was a bang, and a nice notch cut out of pliers cutting edge! the house didn't have earth leakage detector, too old, in hindsight i should have just cut off all power at fusebox, [insert comment here about hindsight being 20/20]

  • Shipping $11.99 to the eastern suburbs of Sydney?

It isn't really worth it unless you live near Parramatta or buy a large amount of stock.
